  • the sad thing is, after this beautiful ballad of love and heavenly light we get the evil song of lust and hatred and hellfire..... but both were awesome so its a okay!

  • Great movie but...

Moral of the story children? Ugly people will never get the girl/boy. Maybe a nice friendship, but your love will always go for the super hot significant other. Because, you know... Who wants to be with an ugly person? Forever alone.

Sorry, but that is how I honestly thought at the end of this movie. :(

  • @Inkblotchy at least he got to be accepted by all the people he wished he could be part of...and Esmeralda does love him...just like a brother and plus (bleeeugh) would you rather have the sequel or this awesome flick of epicness...just saying...

  • Quasimodo, the man with ugly faces, yet blessed with beautiful hearts and voice...

  • quazimodo is badass he should have beaten phobus to death aghh

  • Quasimodo- forever in the friend zone :(

  • Mandopony sung it better.

  • I think that it was in these few minutes that the movie really delved into Quasimodo's character ... so short, but soo beautifully done :)

  • QUASIMOTTO!!!

  • QUASIMOTO!!!!!!

  • Well he didn’t get the girl but it could have been worse Disney could have stuck to the original story.. YEESH

  • can any one else hear a slight hell fire tune towards the end?

  • Tom Hulce has the most beautiful and amazing voice ever I love him and this song so very much

  • @DogsRule52494 my family thought that his voice was weak when i showed them this movie and i was like WHAT!?

  • @QuentrixMovies Should've showed them Out There. But if they watched that too, then I think they're partially deaf to be honest.

  • @MariotheHedgehog1998 ya they don't experience this movie the way i do which sucks cuz this movie is so awesome! lol

  • 1:07 .. HEY.... theres no swearing in church!!! :D

  • 1:02 looks like the goat has a boner :))

  • @MrPhane1 If that was true, then Esmerelda wouldn't have given Phoebus a second look. lol

  • quasimodo ain't really singing about wanting esmeralda , he's singing about how esmeralda is the first person other than frollo to show love for him without being afraid of him. he's hoping esmeralda will became his best friend.

  • Mandopony sings it better.

  • @Mandopony Your voice is amazing!

  • Quasimodo may not have had the face of an angel, but he surely did have the voice of one. <3 This melody is the sweetest thing.

  • beautiful movie, beautiful song!!!! gotta love Disney's renaissance era during the 90s!

  • "No face as hideous as my face was ever meant for Heaven's light."

Ouch. That one got to me.

  • those damn gargoyles ruined the movie

  • @darklight436 yeah, but it holds up pretty well

  • 1:02 Isn't Djali a Boy??

  • "no1 has a hideous face when u look within that person"

"well unless your frollo then it's a hideous all day all the time"

  • HOPE. is my interpretation. I'm so ugly. I wish.

  • it's just so sad

  • what a pure love song :(((

  • He may have a hideous face, but he has an amazing voice.

  • i hate the line "no face as hideous as my face was ever meant for heaven's light X(" so much

  • @30andfree why?

  • aw, screw those annoying gargoyles.

  • 1:00 lol

  • I love how Phebous is the only one out of the three main guys who doesn't sing a song about wanting Esmeralda, and yet he's the one who gets her in the end...

  • @tragicxcigarette

Actually, he's the only one who doesn't sing. AT ALL.

  • @tragicxcigarette XD even Cloppen "see the most beautiful girl in france feel the mystery and romance"

  • @tragicxcigarette

Maybe thats why he got her! lol

  • @tragicxcigarette ............ Have you ever read the original book? (You may then understand why I was so sad when Pheobus got her.)

  • LOVE THIS

  • And in the end the ugly one gets the friend zone while the player gets the girl.

  • Mandopony's bulletin brought me here.

  • This movie is amazing but I truly didn't notice the beauty of this song until I saw the discord and celestia animatic, it was really beautiful

  • @NickScottCHSvids Same here!

  • came here from the amazing discord animatic

  • @Mardello1 you and me bro

  • @Mardello1 Yeah... you, me, at least seventy other people.

  • @Mardello1

Would you mind to post a link, or at least say the full name of a video, or something at all?..

  • @GendolfasTM Heaven's Light -Animatic- more or less...

    /watch?v=NL_99jYTV5I

  • @Madelonetj

Thx. Watched it now... Still I'm not a fan of ponies. ;]

  • @Mardello1 wait... I think I came here subconcionsly from that... (watched when your evil with Discord... "gets so lonely when your evil" reminded me of the Discord animatic... looked for a PMV with this song doesn't exist I guess I'll just listen to the song at least and then watch the animatic read this comment... HOLY *******!?!!!)

  • ponies brought me here. MLP:FIM FTW

  • An animatic of Discord had this song, so I wanted to listen to the original again.

    That's why I'm here. :P

  • This is one of my favorite movies. It made me ball as a kid at the parade part where gets made fun of but its such a good movie. Thanks Disney!

  • The sequel definitely doesn't compare to this masterpiece!

  • @tandyee This needs more thumbs up. The sequel is, in my opinion, the worst ever made and just for the purpose to give Quasi a girl as well.

  • To be honest, I don't think Quasi's ugly at all actually, he's quite cute here, compared to the real version in the book.

  • 0:53

  • @poplopo yeah i just watched the vid last night for the first since i was a kid and it was really tremendous to see the contrast not only due to the two different songs but also to the fact how restless full of rage fear and loss of control frollo is and the way quasi performs the song before is just the complete difference... thats one of the last real good disney movies...

  • This is a very underrated song. Hellfire gets a lot of publicity for being so edgy, but the truth is that they're the two halves of the same song about the same subject. When it comes to love, there's romance as well as lust, and your entire character can be revealed by which you prefer.

  • Why do I understand him EXACTLY.. I dont want to understand such things but understand the happiness of people who love each other..

  • It is clear that Frollo was never taught to love. For whatever reason, he is a product of the cruelty in society. He is also very repressed as he is convinced that his sexual desire for a woman of Esmeralda's character is evil. That goes back to the whole idea of physical love being evil which was and in some cases is still perpetuated by Christian extremists.

  • @GoldenMoon47 Its not so much his lust for esmerelda, its his inability to relieve it - Hellfire is prettymuch a song about wanting to masturbate.

  • @GoldenMoon47 Christians (there is no such thing as Christian extremists) do not believe physical love is evil. They believe it is good, just between spouses. They believe in abstinence and saving one's self for a marriage with the person they love and choose to spend the rest of their life with. Going back, there are no extremists because Christians' job is to preach love. Extremists act on hate. Now there is a juxtaposition for you :)

  • @LMFAOASAP I am Christian, and I guarantee you they do exist. Yes, people in the modern day do misidentify historical examples as 'extremism' (the Crusades, for instance were an attempt to recover land that was conquered by Islam, and also an attempt to help what was left of the Orthodox Christian Eastern Roman Empire), but groups like the LRA are undoubtedly terrorists.

  • @Ivashanko So you know then that Christians act with love. If they go about anything any other way through hate, selfishness, etc. then they can't deem whatever it is they are doing as Christian. Also, there are many self-proclaimed people out there claiming to be atheist, or buddhist, or in this case Christian. They can claim they are Christians but if they turn around to act against all teachings of love then it is evil and something opposite of Christian teachings. Id write more but can't..

  • @LMFAOASAP That sounds an awful lot like you're moving the goalposts. You are welcome to define christianity however you would like, but when someone says they believe in christ and participates in christian rituals, I'd call them christian.

  • @GoldenMoon47 In Christianity's defense, for much of its history unmarried sex was often a death sentience . If she were to get pregnant, the lack of someone who had a particular interest in watching out for her/the child's safekeeping made it very difficult for the mother and child to survive. Also, pre-marital relations were almost always forced on the women anyways. We read books like 'The Game of Thrones' and think 'this must be what it was like!' but sex was not so common place in the

  • Medieval Ages. Today's Christians can (and I know a few who do) argue that the rule was good for most of human history, though less useful today due to effective contraception. Or they could argue that the 'sex without marriage' rule is still relevant due to the likely chance of psychological scars on a person who has it outside of marriage. I mean, a lot of people today think marriage is unnatural, but that is insane. Almost all people throughout history had a form of it. And that's because

  • marriage increases the chance of the mother surviving childbirth, and the child surviving the path to adulthood. Given the odds of a mother/baby surviving without someone looking after them during the most vulnerable time of a pre-modern day woman's life, tt is unlikely that natural evolution (even sans God) would not have some negative side-effects of promiscuous sex. That theory, however, remains unproven either way- very, very little research has gone into it. More is being funded, however.

  • ...And wow I wrote a lot there. I didn't plan on that.

  • Quasimodo is reminiscent of all these not-so-attractive people popping up in talent shows on tv surprising everyone with an unexpectedly astounding voice.

  • aww Quasi :)

  • Someone show the CEO of Disney this. Disney movies now are utter rubbish.

  • I love how all of these songs have great meanings

  • omg i love the music at 1:19 sooo much!!!!

  • It's kind of sad that he's kind of proven right at the beginning of his song. "No face as hideous as my face was ever meant for heaven's light."

And then not too long after, Esmerelda decides to shack up with Phoebus instead. How sad. I know this is how the story goes, but it's still sad. I still LOVE this movie though, especially the music. The choirs are fucking EPIC.

  • 1:08 - 1:16 the most beautiful part of almost any song i've ever heard

  • How can 5 people dislike this song?

  • Quasimodo is so sweet! <3

  • As beautiful and touching as this song is... 1:02 ALWAYS cracks me up. :D

  • @Threeofhearts1

Because they all lost sense of what Disney really was, and everyone is now aiming everything towards 5 year olds.

  • what a sweet, sweet song but even though he didnt got Es, he got a girl in the sequel :))

  • I never noticed before the juxtaposition between this song (Quasi's love for Esmerelda feeling like heaven's light) and the song that comes right afterward (Frollo's lust for Esmerelda feeling like hellfire). It illustrates beautifully the difference in character between the two men.

  • @Poplopo Very good point .__.

  • @Poplopo Great point, & to elaborate, at the beginning Clopin says "who's the monster & who's the man?" & you 1st think Quasi's the monster & Frollo's the man, but the way these songs are juxtaposed, you see Quasimodo innocently loves Esmeralda with a kind heart, while Frollo will to have her brutally killed for a crime she didn't commit because he lusts for her & she won't be his. Who is the monster and who is the man? ;)

  • @Poplopo Now here is a riddle to guess if you can

Sing the bells of Notre Dame

Who is the monster and who is the man?

  • this is a beautiful yet underrated song.

  • What a prick he rings the bells how late at night? Seriously if its 1 am I dont want to be woken by bells from a song number.

  • @TheLayZBones I thought the bells were rung every hour on the hour...

  • the gargoyles. gotta love them !

  • its always a girl singing in a Disney movie.

  • this song is so beautiful who said his face was ugly its sad.

  • The saddest thing about this film is that the statues don't actually talk to him, meaning Quasimodo has no friends to tell him they love him, and Esmerelda chooses someone else. It makes me so sad every time. :'(

  • 0:22 totally ruined the moment. :)

  • love this song and movie

  • Judgement does not come from humans.

  • This song just shows how much good something as simple as a smile can do for a person. Thank you to everyone who smiles. You are making someone's day.

  • Disney was magic once. lately however, its been nothing but nick jonas and miley cyrus. why is this?

  • 1. This song was FAR too short! They should have made it longer and separated it from "Hellfire", although I do understand it for contrast purposes.

    2. So heart breaking to hear someone believe that they deserve to go to hell for how they look, it just tears me apart inside!

  • If anyone's interested, I wanted to put the bell sequence Quasi plays at the end of Heaven's Light as my ringtone so I managed to loop it convincingly (a harder job than I imagined) and I've posted it here on YT: watch?v=mEoQ7BXzPh0

  • In the original story, Esmerelda gets hanged and quasi disapears. Its only when the man who cleans out the body storage room is when he finds two skeletons in a embrace. There is a female with the broken neck, a sign of being hanged. Attached to it is a deformed, male skeleton. :( Now why would Disney have an ending like that?

  • @lololo1186 u mean the original movie right?

  • @epicrunner Original movie? More like the book. You should check it out if you ever find it, though. It's a pretty damn awesome read (albeit slightly boring when the author starts describing every little detail of the town and cathedral. Yeah, he does that. He even compares different architectonic styles present in medieval Paris).

  • @CaveShinobi yeah i hate it when authors do that but i'll check it out anyways. thanks :D

  • @lololo1186 If they did, it would be the saddest Disney film ending ever. As far as I know, they always end happy.

  • This movie actually has a meaning to it and it can show that the some people can never get the girl. :')

    I love you Quasimodo. :'D

  • He's hot :D

  • in real life if qusi had only 4 people to talk to woundnt he go crasy lol

  • Oh God, I'm crying.

  • This song is way too short.

  • *are words

  • 0:33-0:42 gets me crying like if i was a little girl again, and i'm happy for it

'cause those words that truly hits your heart the right way

Disney made beautiful movies back then, thank God i'm a 90's-girl

  • damn you, frollo u sent 4 people to hate this video. You are an evil evil man

  • I hate how some ppl point out that even tho Quasi was a good guy, he still didn't get the girl because he was "ugly". Many seem to forget that Quasi's wish wasn't really to fall in love, it was to be accepted by the people that he had come to indirectly known and care for. Falling for Es just happened out of the blue, and altho it was sad to not see the two together, Quasi managed to gain what he wanted (acceptance) and what he wasn't looking for, which was his self esteem/worth.

  • @GingerTurquoise Wrong. He wanted the pussy. They all want the pussy.

  • @oMeGaSoLjaX No. Some do and some don't.

  • @GingerTurquoise I dont think he was really in love with her as much as he had a crush, because it was more the idea that someone could love him that he was feeling, rather than real love.

  • @GingerTurquoise A very interesting point. I see what you mean. But I still think that it's stupid that Esmerelda like ignores everything he does for her. What does Phoebus really have going for him, other than that he is, in the story at least, attractive? He doesn't save Esmerelda, ultimately, Quasimodo does. He doesn't have to overcome adversity and stigma in the same way. He doesn't risk everything for her in the same way. I see both sides to the argument, though. It's an interesting topic.

  • @crimrose if quasimodo was a woman no hot guy would have gone after her, no matter what she had done for him by Disney standards at least (real life too but oh well) I want these kind of movies to be reversed every once and a while too. Ugly girl, hot guy, but this never happens..ohh well..

  • @horsepheus Well, it's unfortunately the standards of society. Women are expected to be beautiful, always, regardless of genetics or deformity. It's interesting that you brought this double-standard up, because I completely agree with you. I think this movie is a good example, though, of how society marginalizes people that we consider to be unattractive...and then allows us to think about what beauty really is. Beauty is not a universal thing. It has changed so much over the centuries!

  • @GingerTurquoise That's what I tried explaining to my friend and he didn't get it.

  • @GingerTurquoise Plus that whole "main hero get's the girl" thing is VERY cliche

  • @GingerTurquoise that and I think it also brings up the question, "what makes a monster, what makes a man?" that plays throughout the movie. Remember that Quasi, though saddened by Esmeralda's chosing another man, does give the couple his blessing. Frollo on the other hand, would stop at nothing to get Esmeralda. I'm pretty sure that if he knew her feelings for Phoebus, he would've killed Phoebus or at least threaten his life so Esmeralda would have to be with Frollo.

  • @GingerTurquoise That was beautiful.

  • What is that whistle instrument at 0:29 through 0:35

  • @forgotenm I'm guessing maybbe the piccolo ? :)

  • @tigress365 Oh, thank you.

  • Awww now I'm crying

  • Heaven light no face looks like my face

  • 4 People cannot feel Heaven's Light. I'd be mad...but I know that feel.

  • I know the feeling of what he sings i have been beaten and tormented for the reason of the deformity that god has given me and i have been feeling like god he might not love all his children and his children dont care for the ones that have no one but themselves and thought of every one around them thinking what if they didnt do this but those with all that has happen to them know that in this world that wont ever happen and i do know that it wont

  • I would be the last one to get emotional during a song...but man when he said "no face as hideous as my face, was ever meant for Heaven's light" I kinda got choked up....having someone say that they're not worthy to be in Heaven because of their looks is really heart breaking. man...Disney was so good back then...

  • Quasimoda has the most Beautiful Voice,<3 this song is my favorite<3 song and scene<3 instead of hellfire<3 your not Ugly Quasimoda we can be ugly togther<3

  • I remember sitting in the theater and glancing at my mother, and she had tears going down her face during this song

  • 4 people are made of stone

  • Quasimodo is the sweetest. I was always kinda upset that he didn't get the girl.

  • I remember glancing over and seeing my mother crying during this song

  • Such a beautiful song :)

  • and so the lovliest song of the movieis followed the most demonic, pervy song in all of Disney !!!

  • Disney had such a hard job on this one - Having to draw someone who was ugly enough to be shunned from the public but not TOO ugly otherwise we'd have trouble listening to the story. I agree with Pandolfs Parade, he's so sweet & cute <3

  • Am I the only one who think that he's just a little cutie? ;A;

  • it's so sad he when calls himself hideous :( Quasi is beautiful from the inside out!

  • Quasimodo whittles like a boss.

  • I hope he isnt suggesting what I think he is at 1:02!

  • @KingOystar no, he just lives in a tower :I

  • I remember when I was little, this was my favorite movie, and it still is. I would always cry over how people I always watched it with hated Quasimoto. Then I would always be thatr one who would say "No, hes beautiful, I want to hug him." Thumbs up for Quasimoto~

  • Wow, he made that figure in about 9 seconds.

I bet he's really great at painting Warhammer miniatures.

  • @Medowin I bet he goes bretonnia

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!

  • Everyone is like: ''Disney teaches us that he didn't get the girl because he's ugly'' but I'm starting to think that it wasn't only the people who believed he was ugly but HIM. And it's perfectly understandable since Frollo kept telling him that but, how can you love someone when that person doesn't love himself? I think that's the lesson Quasi needed to learn first so he could be prepared for love.

  • @StephiGereRothThyne I understand what your getting at but sometimes love from someone else is just what you need to be able to love yourself. Its shows "Hey, maybe i'm not so bad after all".

  • @StephiGereRothThyne i know how you feel, i used to be really really overweight and i didn't love myself so much and i was a complete loner most of the time and i was teased and bullied without mercy, but after i lost a large amount of weight last year i started to love myself a bit more but i'm still not completely happy cus i was hoping some girls would think I'm attractive this way and not a lot of them talk to me but their are times some of them smile at me and it makes me feel happy

  • even thought this is a minute and a couple of seconds long,it has more meaning&feeling then all of the songs put together.

  • Im an 18 year old girl and I cry everytime I hear this! I have never been in love or had my first kiss! Why am I so ugly? Why cant 1 guy look me in the eyes and tell me im beautiful and he loves me? :'(

  • @TheRiley67 The fact you never had your first kiss doesn't mean you're ugly. I'm 21 and I never had a boyfriend myself. Yet, I'm quite sure that I'm not ugly (not that I'm pretty, but I'm not ugly either). There can be many reasons: shyness, not knowing many nice guys... And I know many people that are not very handsome either who actually are in a relationship. Personnally, I have never liked a guy just because he is handsome. I only fell in love when I got to know him better . Don't give up!
