1. I read using servos as wheels will drastically reduce its life span because they are not designed to run for a long continuous time. Is that right?
2. Will you be able to count rotations if you use them as wheels?
I have a cheap RC car, I want to use the steering assembly to move my puppets eyes. However the motor that turns the assembly is to loud. Is there a way to replace that motor with a servo? If so, how is that down? Your video's are great!
@taftdavid u can take a servo cut the white cable and the adaptor and use the + to the + of ur reciever and the - to the - of your transmiter.(I think + is the black and - is the red). But servos are loud and your cheap rc car must have plenty of power.
Really good Video, After the conversion i can see the servo arm spinning 360. Would i still be able to adjust what degree the servo arm will travel by the end point adjustment through a transmitter?
Hi, good video. I just want to know, if you do this to your servo, will you still be able to control it with a micro controller e.g. with giving it values to turn to? I am just wondering since the potentiometer is disabled?
It's actually not very complicated. I've modified a lot of servos. And by using a regular DC motor you need to build a motordriver too. Servos are way easier and you get very precise speed control (both forward and reverse).
I have to say that that was one of the most professional and easy to understand videos that I've ever seen, and was exactly what I needed to know! I know how to do it in theory, but I'd much rather see someone do it before I go fumbling about inside my brand new servos. Thanks!
Hi, servos usually move 45 degrees to each side, which makes 90 overall. You said they move 90 to each side. Only retract servos move 180 degrees right out of the box.
Maybe he's making a video for amateurs, then? No reason to flip your top, buddy. His method works just fine for his application; if it makes you feel better about yourself to spend more time doing it without glue, then that's fine for you, you big, bad real roboticist.
HAHA, you're right this is fine for a small project. I just know that gluing the potentiometer is a pain in the ass later on. I'm a perfectionist and want my money well spent. I guess people will use potentiometers when they use expensive servos. Maybe I should do my own video. Mind you, I just want other future roboticists not to go through all the hardships I went through.
good help thanks. but why glue the ``post`` ? does the theird cable going into the servo sent the info back? so why cut it? if it is not that cable then what does the cable do? and why glue 2 of the gears together? is it to increase the speed? can i leave it unstuck if im happy with the speed?
THis was extremely helpful. The 90 degrees just wasn't enough for my robotic arm but now it works great

Excellent video! Didn't know what a servo was this morning. Bought 2, needed to convert them for 360 rotation. Finished both in an hour!
This method works perfectly for JR Sport ST47's. Exempt the last step...

Great video, I get about more how it works now, I don't really get why the glue was used at then end though to glue the cogs part together
eitherrideordie 1 year ago
@eitherrideordie It's grease, lubrication for the cogs.

@OliverJohnnyRyan oh right, so its not actually glue then, cheers heaps for that man

is there a way of creating a servo to rotate 360 deg however rotate slower in one direction than the other?

how powerful are these, If I were to use one to open and close roller blinds, would it be capable? I don't think it will, if not what would be best?

wow, that looks a bit too complicated. Just use a motor with a step-down gearbox

DOES IT ROTATE BOTH WAYS OR ONLY ONE?

Both ways. And btw your capslock is stuck.

an easier method of turning a 180 degree servo in to a 360 continuess motor is to replate the 5k pot on the cirtut board with two 2k5 resistors
this eliminates the need to adjust the pot to the center point and any gluing of gears.
but other than that, great tutorial
Cheers

people do not use glue! Use resistors on the potentiometer leads to get the neutral position instead of gluing it. You will thank me later.

is you glue the gears together you will have to remove the other gear or it will be blocked.
