Thanks for the video, but could you please tell me a bit more about how to train a Yorkie? Maybe if you got a new dog a showed us how to train it from the start, that might be more helpful for me. Thanks for putting your time into this video though!
Yes, I use pre-shredded sharp cheddar cheese for my Yorkie. It is perfectly safe for them=). My Yorkie has learned how to sit, down, stay, dance, not to door dash, shake, touch (a spot i show with my hand), bow, put your paws up here, off, jump, through the tunnel, and probably a few more i cant remember lol! oh and spin around
@TulipRox How did you train your yorkie? i feel as if my dog is untrainable. She is very stubborn and if i try food treats shes unresponsive, i think because there is food all she wants is the food ignoring everything i say. And since i did not get her as a puppy its also hard, shes 3 and i dont know what to do.
I would like to say thanks to you, my yorkie has 11 months and using this method he knows how to lay down, it was just like your dog at the beginning but just few days after and I dont even have to give him anything and he just lay down THANKS AGAIN!!!
Don't know if this will work but if you keep a watchful eye, if you think your yorkie is about to lie down say lie down just before he does it. All I did was lure him into lie down by putting the treat near his nose and putting down under his nose and telling him to leave it and repeat this acouple of times but then extending the time.
i tought my boy yorkie(leonidas) how to do a whole lot of tricks on comand and it wasnt so hard but my girl yorkie refuses to learn. She went to this thing called school pups and still learned nothing all she does is chew things apart bite people and bark a lot.
My female Yorkie is the same way, we tell her to sit, up, roll over, and she does it, but she barks while she does it. lol It's hard to train her. She chews apart ALL of her toys and eat the stuffing inside. =/
I have a 2 years and a half yorkie, and he is awesome!!!.. I trained him to do some things, and he recognizes lots of words, even a particular toy I want him to take..
now I got a 2 months female yorkie, and I want to teach her too..
thats how I got to know your videos..
and I think they r great!!.. and that u do a good job!!.
Yorkies are brilliant!! they r really intelligent... and I think that these people thay say "they r dumb" have no idea of how to train or even understand the dog.. maybe they tried 5 times, and the dog didnt get it, and they gave up saying "my dog is stupid"..
@wally457 these dogs are hard to train if you wait too long, because, like chihuahua, they have a problem with who is the owner. you have to make him/her understand when they are as young as possible that they are the ones WE own. there is no mean thing in what I said, because if you have skipped that part, they don't listen to you, because they really think they are like humans. dogs must be dogs, and they must understand this. they must respect you, not fear you.
very well trained Yorky!! i tiught my Manchester terrier+Norfolk terrier both lots of tricks, such as: sit, lie down, beg, speak, play dead, and shake. some tricks that they know together are: beg, sit, and wait. i got some help from expert village actually. my Manchester is now 9 months+Norfolk is 11 months. i started training when my Manchester was 6 months+Norfolk was 7 months. they r now in Obedience trials!!!
xXOurworldXx, sitting behind here and do not enter comments. Go teach your York. As far as his age? Think lighter teams, when they learn, try to teach more difficult. Good luck.
Did you know that cheese is very dangerous for dogs if they eat it? Cheese and chocolate poison their systems. One day that Yorkie will lay down and won't get back up! Poor thing!
Me i have yorkies name is Mojo. I have begin today 25th august to learn 4 trick in only 20 or 25 minutes(but alreay learn sleep, and some stay but have dificult). Sleep(anytime),stay here(but Mojo, giving legs(do it any time but have sleep on the floor...,and wake up(but Mojo do 1 time on 5).Its the fist time i trying on my Mojo to learn trick, and Mojo learn. It's realy amasing... And have only 9 mounth old!And i have only Mojo look like 2 mounth
I have 2 female yorkies, i taught them both at the same time lots of tricks, i taught them how to sit, bark, come, down, stay and much more, Yorkies are one of the easiest dogs to teach,
To be honest thought this womans traiing habits are not GOOD!!! she keeps repeating the word, and thats the number 1 no no for obidience training. Their smart dogs, they can learn down with the voice command, in a couple mins... search youtube for Victoria Stillwell.
um i got a new yorkie teacup he is 2 month olds will he be able to learn, and if he can are the treats good for his food and will they ruin his appetite?
i would wait until hes 6-8 months old, and it depends on how many treats you give the dog and really you just need a little tast of the treat so no it wont
tng3prrs hi, i cant wait till i get my teacup, at the end of this month (xmas) anywhoo yorkies are incredibly smart dogs, at 10weeks of age is when you start training them.
So not to long, and you'll be on your way to a great dog, that listens, and respects you.
Make sure that you socialize him, and let him be comfortable with brushing the hair/teeth, and let him know his boundaries at a young age. Doing that will make him a great pet as he grows.
Take a treat in your hand and start at one side of his/her head and make the motion with treat in hand to roll over... repeat until he/she catches on!! good luck
i want that dog so bad and im gonna get it no matter what i am still begging my parents and so far it's a "MAYBE" and by that they mean ok ok just stop asking so ill be getting one in the summer
I have a yorkie who never listens to me!!! He never stays in one spot for more than one second. He will occasionally sit, but he gets up right away. On top of everything, he's only 90% potty trained...any ideas from successful yorkie owners?

How old is Tuffy?
My yorkie is 3 months and not very good at alot of tricks since he gets distracted very easily. What is the right age to train them?
NicholaXD 9 months ago
@NicholaXD Well my yorkshire "noodle" is 1 year now but when i started learning him tricks he was just a few weeks in my house
because i read online that teaching a dog a trick goes MUCH easier at the young dog age's.
my dog now knows Shake hands,Sit down,Lay down, jump, beg, roll over, stay and my favourite hands up.
The right age depends on your dog but hearing that yours is very easely distracted i would say you might have too wait a few months. hope it helped

you can give cheese...but not an everyday treat like this lady. I suggest using scrambled eggs (fully cooked to 160 degrees) to train.
