Had the Soviets used the 100mm gun more often, the Americans the 90mm and the British their 17 pounder, the Tiger and Panther would not be so celebrated. Personally, if I were a division commander I would try to lower a 155 Long Tom to a flat trajectory to use against a Tiger or Panther at 500 meters. None the less, the Germans put these tanks in the field and they were good. It was over kill though as a Pzkwg could readily handle the T-34 and was a reliable tank from start to finish.
What I never understood about the German Tank Engineers is that they never even tried to make a diesel fueled panzer. Diesel is cheaper than high octane petrol, less flammable and Diesel engines provide better torque, which is useful in heavy terrain. The Russians used Diesel in their tanks from very early on (Even their imported Shermans were Diesel-engined) , and post-war tanks are almost all powered by Diesel. Can anyone explain to me why?
@infernalzen OK, so the Germans couldn't cope with waxy Diesel fuel but the Russians could? Also,It is hard to believe they were unable to make a proper Diesel Engine, they invented it!
@infernalzen After doing a little research I think that you are right with your synthetic fuel argument. I didn't know Germany relied so heavily on synthetic fuel. Some other reasons for using petrol instead of Diesel were that engineers generally considered Diesel to be fuel for ships, not land vehicles. Also, the Germans thought that Diesel engines were too heavy. Lastly, Russia had been using Diesel for ages and was ahead in Diesel technology apparently.
It took Russians 4 years to develop & build T34. Hitler builded Tiger tank in 10 months. They did not have a disel engin, and had no time to develop one.

@alanheath I belive the reason behind Wittman's fame is actually caused by the Allies! Wittman alone had a huge impact on the Allied morale so naturally they made a big fuzz about it when they finally got him...
The English were very proud of their spionage operations since they couldent contribute with much else due to the starvation of munitions and fuel caused by German submarines.
A valid proof of that is that James Bond and Wittman share the same ID code which is 007..!
@alanheath During the German invasion of France German submarines ambushed English cargo ships thus crippeling the English fighting capabilities. Therefore the English had to wait before they could aid France. @bodyguardik wow its easier to progress in technology when u didnt loose such a war... not that i want the germans to win this war ... i wish it would never happened... anyway... the germans tanks were ahead of time...
especially the ones that couldnt get finished ... i mean u need to consider that the germans had no ressources for their expensive tanks...
and btw... i tiger 1 hasnt a good slopped armour ... but the tiger 2 well thats a different story bro
@Hellzerker about what? Panther2 - prototype only, Pzkpfw VI Ausf B - the metal of armor was of shoddy quality, so penetrated with same performance as Tiger I. Only one thing in Tiger II was really good - a gun (KwK 43 L/71). Only russian IS-2 was able to catch shell in upper front armor (but not to turret, etc.), and still be alive (but not 100%!). In last period of WW2 soviets created IS-3, wich was the only one tank capable of withstand KwK 43 L/71 attack.
@TheAtomicKaiser You idiot, get your facts straight before you say something. The bad sides of a Tiger is that Germany didn't have resources enough to produce many of them, and the production rate was quite low. But out in the field Tigers was the most fearsome tanks of WW2.
The tigers, despite their awesome firepower and armour, i would say were a key factor in Germany losing the war. They were costly, with one Tiger costing as much as 4 Stug IIIs
Tiger divisions were almost never at full strength die to mechanical failures and road-marches proved more lethal to Tigers than enemy tanks... not so tough any more
Never the less, they were a feat of German engineering and were right to be feared by the Allies.
@scg159 Part of the reason why they had such bad mechanical failure is that the Germans were primarily using forced labor. Sometimes the people building the tanks would intentionally sabotage the engines.
@fumbducks While forced labour may have hampered German manufacturing, I simply don't believe deliberate sabotage was a major cause of the Tiger's unreliability. Problems faced by tiger crews were fairly specific: engine, suspension and transmission faults being by far the most common; due to over engineered systems. I'm not saying sabotage didnt go on, im just saying it wasn't a major contributor.
In combat, the kill/loss ratio of tiger tanks was exacly 12 - 1m meaning every tiger destroys 12 enemy tanks before it gets knocked out (Not by tanks only, also included aircraft). All in all more tigers got lost due to technical problems, so total in ww2, for every tiger tank destroyed of any reason, 6.3 enemy tanks were destroyed.
Given that the Tiger i seen in the footage are early to mid production Tiger I variants this would rule out the jagdpanther, the vehicle is more likely a normal Panther
Whittmann was among the most distinguished, accomplished soldier in the history of warfare. He should be revered as a soldier even though he fought for the evil adolph.
@infernalzen But he wasnt a tankofficer the whole time. He was serving with an armouredcar unit -41 and during the begining of the Eastern campaignt he commanded an assultgun (An early Stug 3 armed with a 75mm howitzer) After that it was officerschool. He only commanded tanks for a relativly short time of the war and part of that time in a Panzer 3.He got max a tear in the Tiger. And it was i the tiger he made the majority of his kills.

@Busja12 А создали еще более великую! На пике могущества в 1950тых СССР контролировал 1/3 суши и, считая Китай, чуть меньше половины населения планеты. А цари с "дворянами" просто выродились как морально, так и генетически!
@Busja12 I liked those from Vlasov army. ROA. At the end of the war americans stayed couple kilometers from our Capital in Czechoslovakia but they could not help the Prague revolts when people fought nazis without allies help. Americans had to fullfill the deal that Prague will be liberated by soviets and they were 3 days away. Vlasovs army helped Prague get rid of nazis having no allies in germans americans or soviets. And had no need to help Czechs but still did.
@sdkfz162kingtiger Is he hero or not.i don't care, but the fact is that russians won that war because they fought for freedom and the truth was on russians side.
@msrussianpatriot he was, and who can tell what is right and wahts wrong?
i know the america was and is still wrong. and you russians were, and we all are their toys. but most of the people are to stupit to see that. they believe like foolish honks in every lie. so nobody can do anything against them. :)
@sdkfz162kingtiger What are you talking about, who are american, are they gods, no they are just human like us, may be they play with us in their foreing policy but i don't want my country do be a toy in someone's hand
@sdkfz162kingtiger Most of what he considered "armoured" kills were nothing more than light Russian tanks crewed by virtually untrained peasants. The great Wittman in his over engineered and super heavy Tiger (no. 007) was knocked out by......a Sherman, Ha Ha. Fuck the SS, and Wittman the lying Stug III comander, I hope Wittman screamed as the flames consumed him feet first.
Had the Soviets used the 100mm gun more often, the Americans the 90mm and the British their 17 pounder, the Tiger and Panther would not be so celebrated. @infernalzen man he was a legend!
raap009 1 year ago
@infernalzen But he wasnt a tankofficer the whole time. He was serving with an armouredcar unit -41 and during the begining of the Eastern campaignt he commanded an assultgun (An early Stug 3 armed with a 75mm howitzer) After that it was officerschool. He only commanded tanks for a relativly short time of the war and part of that time in a Panzer 3.He got max a tear in the Tiger. And it was i the tiger he made the majority of his kills.
NightmareGbg 1 year ago
@infernalzen 141 tanks and 132 AT-guns.

Such a shame that Knispel died only a week before the war ended. A fitting end to such a great career?

How well did Tigers fare against Soviet anti-armor aircraft like the IL-2 Sturmovik?
greenthousands 1 year ago
@greenthousands
think any aircrafts cannons will make a mess of the thinner roof armour
+rockets...... just isnt going to end well for the tank crew.
the stuka JU-87G had 37mm cannons, only used in anti-tank operations.
a german Rudel, took out 16 tanks? in one day +400 in total? :o

2Million Germans soldier died durin this campaign, 12Million Russians died.
This ratio says a whole lot about equipment and skill. The russians won due to large numbers of Tanks, soldiers and so on.
All respect to all whom died for their country, no matter wich side they fought on.

what commies?
the chinese are ok. (at the moment)
infernalzen 2 years ago
@infernalzen
The Chinese Okay?
I believe the only government that has massacred 10's of millions of people and still is in business today.
Chinese military spending huge amounts on modernizing and expanding their military against what "enemy"?
Google finally opened it's eyes to the "real" China, but took them a while.
And American companies continue to outsource manufacturing jobs to Chinese factories that pay their workers slave wages and no benefits.
rampking1 2 years ago 3
the person was saying about commies.
i was saying that there arent many commies left, only china?
i agree they are expanding, not open, carying out espionage...
ww3 could be over resources.
china claims areas of the sea upto a few miles from every nation in the eastern hemisphere :(
theres oil under the sea there +they will claim it as theirs.
but that would mean walking over, vietnam, malaysia, indonesia....

Okay, you just pushed my button a little when you put "OK" and "China" together.
You are very correct, the disputed Spratly Islands in the South China Sea is a flash-point for the future.
Thanks for your great video and like your comments regarding the assassination of Peiper.

think chinas own people arent to blame.
they would love to be free.
they would love to be able to have free business.
some know they arent told the truth....
history being written by the govt, regardless of whats a fact.
i have flown on cathay +now the films are full of,

a foreigner corrupting locals....

@Busja12 А создали еще более великую! На пике могущества в 1950тых СССР контролировал 1/3 суши и, считая Китай, чуть меньше половины населения планеты. А цари с "дворянами" просто выродились как морально, так и генетически!
aleks2112 7 months ago
@Busja12 I liked those from Vlasov army. ROA. At the end of the war americans stayed couple kilometers from our Capital in Czechoslovakia but they could not help the Prague revolts when people fought nazis without allies help. Americans had to fullfill the deal that Prague will be liberated by soviets and they were 3 days away. Vlasovs army helped Prague get rid of nazis having no allies in germans americans or soviets. And had no need to help Czechs but still did.
