Thank you so much for sharing this video! As others have said, there seems to be a many different ways to cook goulash. I visited Hungary the first time this past summer, ate it several times (including home-cooked once), and it was different every time. Sometimes it had carrots and other vegetables, sometimes it didn't. Sometimes it had potatoes, sometimes it didn't. I'm making it tomorrow like your Grandma, only I'll make my Grandma's dumplings instead of using potatotes.
Out of all recipes; those cooking, this has got to be one of the cutest sweetest woman I've encountered! And she's health conscience! Substituting turkey? This is what I want to see more of!
Great recipe, great nano or nana, love her kitchen btw, and I am so making this dish vs. others because it's healthier and she didn't talk through it like crazy but rather concentrated on what she was doing! Awesome.
@Szilagyi23 that's fucking rude when someone's mother is cooking on the video. If you've ever travelled in Hungary, you will clearly know: a) most gulyas differs from one home to another, b) Gulyas is usually a soupier preparation than we see in America or the rest of Europe c) PÖRKÖLT is the more common name for the thick meaty stew, d) Gulyas is a soup of similar flavor but has the addition of carrot and parsnips...so maybe you can stop being a jerk about it.
wow... I cant believe how angry some of these people get on here :\
My Oma makes this as well, her husband was Hungarian. I don't think she cooks the meat with flour first, but this lady obviously knows what shes doing. It looks really good :) I will have to try it. She is so cute C:
hello .. love the simple way you prepared this very authentic dish. Love your gran! this is great! I do mine similar, each family is different! I use olive oil, garlic, 3 onions diced, saute it a while, add garlic, minced about two tablespoons, cubed filet mignon or any tender beef, (about 3 lbs), bay leaf, minced paprika, one red one green, can diced tomatoes, simmer in water to cover.. add 4 cubed potatoes.. tsp caraway, marjoram, salt pepper 1/4 tsp hot red pepper simmer about an hour ;)
Never heard of turkey being healthier than beef. You NEVER coat your meat in flour, neither you use wine. You don't use oil, but bacon. Meat first, than the onions???? WTF? Cumin seeds? Parsley roots? Where are they? Paprika powder goes on the onions before the meat. Jeez, sweet Grandma, but she is the worst cook I have ever seen. Goulash is a soup, and this 'dish' looks utterly disgusting.
@blondecat666 Hi, blonde. I agree with the turkey shit but I think your Ms Clairol has to be a shade darker. Goulash is a popular dish and it does nor have to follow any stiff rules.
i enjoyed this grandma , i have had all hungarian grandma and great grandmas ,it looks the best but my mom put green bean in also..God bless u ..from Ohio
This lady is making the REAL deal! Look at her...she's my Hungarian Granny! PAY ATTENTION, she really know how to prepare this dish!!! Now, this is the way you make TRADITIONAL HUNGARIAN GOULASH!!!! DELICIOUS, PERFECT!!!
what language is she speaking in??? and shes just adoreeable... i saw many many recipies but this was the one i followed because of her... no one knows food better than grandmas <3

You dont have to be so hateful. Grow up.

@Saschriber How am I being hateful???? I said Grandma was sweet, unfortunately her dish has nothing to do with gulyásleves, especially 'traditional'.
