  • Real heroes perform their heroics shirtless and pantless.

  • @PoIaris LOL! Damn right. Thanks for watching!

  • Ah the Christmas of '89!! Btw, great review buddy! You have this Charlie's angels' boss voice thing going.

  • @Throwmethewhip LOL. "Hello Angels....here's your TurboGrafx game for the day..." hah a. Thanks for watching!

  • I haven't played my dad's turbo grafx in over a decade, but i sure do miss those games. Thank you for the videos and funny commentary

  • @TheCricketSoldier Thanks for watching!

  • Good review. I have this on my PC Engine and I can't get enough of it. Don't think much of the sequel.

  • @AirWarCrimewave Thanks for watching!

  • I LOVE THIS GAME WHEN I WAS KID WHEN I WAS 3/4 YEARS OLD I LOVE THIS GAME AND I PLAY THIS GAME ON ATTARI.

  • @ghazanfarstriker Awesome! Thanks for watching!

  • this guy sounds like the guy in Total Recall that Arnold shoots in the head.

  • @Deaft0ne I get that a lot. I love it....wish I was that guy! Would love to be immortalized for good in that role. :)

  • "The giant boulder"... HAHA! love that one :) Pretty solid game overall & on my top 10 for the system, but I think it's main problem was timing. Technically its a marvel since it fits in 256k. It's Japanese release was in 1988 & at that time the 512k cards didn't exist (the reason why R-Type was split on 2 cards). They should've just wait a little & continue to refine it all... But try to say that to your boss : "i'll hold onto it for next year"... Yeah... Still a solid game, I still play it.

  • Most under-rated game on the console! Everyone thinks you have to spend over $50.00 on a TurboGrafx game to get a quality game, Legendary Axe is one classy piece of gaming history.

  • @greedostick Totally! Thanks for watching.

  • This was one of my favorite chip games Chris. :) I am currently looking to buy part II. I never had that one.

  • @mikeshredder233 Cool. Thanks for sharing your opinions. :)

Take care and have a great one!

  • Oh no monkey rape!LOL

  • @paleknight1 LOL! I know....what the hell? Ha ha

    Thanks for watching!

  • Wow! I used to play this game as a kid at my cousin's place, it was a bad ass game! Nice review!

    Cheers from Quebec

  • @johnny0seven Cool, cool. Thanks for watching and commenting. :)

  • none of their games were long. the controllers connectors were wack too

  • @kopkilla00 Huh?

  • @kopkilla00 ha! i do remember the 4ft controller cables - and nec sold extender cables. when you factor in the turbo tap and only 1 controller input on the system, they really screwed the consumer on the controller by trying to get you to buy the accessories to make it on par with other systems. thats one thing i really disliked about my turbo.

  • I got to the last boss without losing a life....but he is hard as hell? damn!

  • @123doomdoom Yeah, he's a pain in the a*(

  • Wow, this looks A LOT like Astyanax on the NES. I recognize the butterflies, exploding enemies, and even the totems that hold power-ups!

  • My dad had this game on the TurboGrafx when I was a kid, and it's definitely my favorite side scroller EVER. Such a great game, loved the review.

  • @xbm Awesome! Thanks so much for watching. I like the game A LOT as well. :)

  • That huge ass last boss lol...

  • @Stevespeeze LOL! Seriously!

  • great game

  • The bats and monkey were brutal. lol One of my favorites game of all time, i play through it a couple times a year.

  • @mogul1265 Oh my, you're not kidding. Those monkeys! UGH! Ha ha.

    Thanks for watching!

  • This really reminds me of Astyanax... with the lone axe weapon and the weapon charge. Looks cool.

  • @StakeJade Ha ha. Ah, Astyanax! I remember that one well. :)

    Thanks for watching.

  • this runs on the same engine as castlevania, dosen't it?

  • i love games where heroines are sacrificed like legendary axe and ninja gaiden (part 1 where irene was the special sacrifice by jaquio). why exactly did the goons in double dragon kidnap your girlfriend at the start? anyhow, to get back to the important point, yeah, gogan just made the cover of GQ for coordinating an awesome outfit that matches his hair and the handle of his axe.

  • Ha ha! Yeah, GQ was nice enough to put him on there. :)

  • I never played this game, only the sequel. I liked it a lot but the ending is a cliffhanger that left the door open for another sequel, only there was no "Legendary Axe 3" (at least not for North America). Also, could you do a review of Military Madness? That was my favorite TG-16 game.

  • Ha ha. Yes, I always thought that about LE2. Would have loved a sequel! :(

MM will be coming at some point. Great game, definitely!

    Thanks for watching.

  • I have both Legendary Axe 1 and 2. I LOVE BOTH OF THEM !!!! I've played through them so many times, and I still have fun playing them today !!!! Hey Spida1a, what's your opinion on Legendary Axe 2 !? Your TURBO vids are GREAT !!!!

  • Nice! I love this one. One of my all time favs on this system.

Seems like VG & CE gave TG16 games a fair chance in their reviews but, yeah, "game of the year"? That was a bit much even for this little gem.

Still it's a great piece of TG16 history and I've also felt that it should've been the pack-in game as well.

  • I hated full power axe. The screen flash made my back spasm 0_o

  • Really?

  • Yea, seriously.

I've never experienced seizures of any kind at any other time in my life.

My back would arch and my head would swing back for half a second each time the screen flashed.

  • Wow, that is something else. Sorry to hear about that.

Sigh........stupid Legendary Axe! I might have to re-think my review. :)

    Thanks for watching!

  • The review is ok. I enjoyed the game and it's sequel.

Are you going to review Gunhed/Blazing Lazers? My all time favorite TG16 game. I got a super secret weapon once early in the brain level. It was a combination of all the fully upgraded weapon types. I have no idea how I got it, but I assume it was a complex series of item pickups. I was easily obliterating everything except one tiny bullet that was lost in the sea of weapons fire pouring from my ship. I died.

I've failed to find a code ref.

  • Actually, I just remembered, Ninja Spirit was my favorite game. I telephoned NEC's game tip line when i couldn't survive the final level where you drop down a chasm to the boss.

  • I love that game. In fact, I think that is second or third next on my list. :)

  • That boulder on a killing spree...

...God, it reminds me of the stone you had to run away from in "The Flinstones" game for the NES. (or whatever the game was in the end)

  • Ugh! BOULDERS! Hee hee.

    Thanks for watching!

  • Not much to say about this game its OK at least its better then sequel The Legendary Axe 2 in which the character was turned into a Conan clone kind of like that Arcade game Rastan.

  • Oh man this game does look great. I have the 2nd one but never did play the first one. I must find a copy!

  • What can I say........I kind of like it. Hee hee! :)

    Thanks for watching!

  • "Because...quite frankly..any games that has a giant boulder on a killing spree...must be fun to play" - Are any of the Indie Jones games fun to play?

I also laughed at the "giant boulder" part.

  • Hmm, I can't remember enjoying the Indy Games. But.....I love intelligent things that shouldn't be. :)

    Thanks for watching.

  • Love LEGENDARY AXE! Reminded me of Taito's RASTAN. I still have my complete copy. But I never picked up part 2. Heard it wasn't as good as the first.

Love your reviews ... I subscribed!

  • Hey, great. Thanks for subbing and watching!!! :)

  • Swagshow was right, you make some great game reviews. Subscribed.

  • Hey, thanks so much for your compliments and for subscribing! I'm glad you enjoy them!

  • Turbo Views might be the most detailed review shows on youtube, I'm surprised on how complete your reviews are! Good job, I discovered some great Turbografx games thanks to you :)

  • Wahoo! Thanks man. I really appreciate it!

  • Awesome review there, good editing and explanation of the game.

  • Thanks a lot! :)

  • very nice review.

i'm going to check out the other episodes

  • Hey, thanks!! I hope you enjoy them and thanks for watching!

  • Oooooh I hated those monkeys!

  • Ugh! Don't remind me. LOL :)

    Thanks for watching!

  • good review dude... (as I hit the subscribe button)

  • Great! Thanks for watching and subscribing!!!

  • Very nice review, I'll have to give this game a shot.

  • Hey thanks. I think you'll enjoy it if you like action-platform. :)

  • Thanks, good video. Ahh the memories. I never forget the front cover of this game, it tricked me.. only to start this game up and see the axe wasn't as gigantic as on the front cover, It is among my list of wrong advertising, like rygar (nes) pak kong, the night stalker (atari 2600) and al four wizards and warriors (warning fabio-altert!!) titles... yes I said 4, just check out the monchrome gameboy installment,

  • I'm impressed with your game reviews! Great job!

  • Woo! Great. Thanks for watching!

  • Awesome review on this underrated title here. I wasn't a big fan of the sequel but I'm interested on hearing your view in a future video and all.

  • I liked the sequel as well. Just wish it didn't have the same "name" because it's a fun little action romp (with NO axes...LOL!)

  • Maybe if the game actually started out with the axe and it had a decent ending I would have really liked it.

  • Very nice review! I always seen this game in screens shots and just thought it was another side scroller. Seeing LA in action it runs really smooth!

  • Thanks for watching!

  • that game reminds me of Astyanax.

  • Definitely! :)

  • Astyanax seems to be a rip off of The Legendary Axe. Check it out on Wikipedia.

  • Yep they are very similar but that is most likely because Tokuhiro Takemori worked on both titles.

  • Astyanax is hard due to clunky controls. I think I'll give it a positive review anyway, when I get around to it.

  • Great review! Love the Legendary Axe games i hope will get to see a review of the second Axe game sometime.

  • I'll put it on the request list. Thanks for watching!!!! :)

  • Ahh man, I can't wait to get my hands on a TG 16! It's on the way and I can't sleep knowing that!

And you awesome review didn't help matters.

  • LOL! Sweet and...well, sweet!

    Thanks for watching!

  • Awesome review my friend!

    The MONKEYS!

  • UGH! Those monkeys! :)

  • *cough cough* You got a problem with our kind!

  • Love the review, thanks for posting it spida1a :)

  • Great. Thanks so much!

  • great review as always!!

  • Thanks my friend. As always.... :)

  • Awesome review!!

  • Thanks PhatPhunk!

  • Nice review. I actually only got this about a year ago but Legendary Axe II was the first TG-16 game I bought to play aside from the pack-ins I got - which were Keith Courage & Neutopia. I was surprised how different the two are but they're both great in their own ways. I'd have bought it sooner but it's just so hard to find TG-16 games these days in a place other than eBay and I enjoy crate digging, it's part of what makes the hobby fun for me.

  • I like LE2 a lot as well. Looking forward to playing it sometime! :)

  • So this game also has an "evil place" here too, huh? I guess they took a page out of Faxanadu! LOL

  • LOL! Yeah!!!!

  • This was the first Turbo game I ever owned. I had it before I even owned the system. That's how bad I wanted to play it. I remember playing it at Electronics Boutique back in '89 or '90 and being blown away by it.

  • I really like it. It's a blast! :)

  • 1:14 "The Evil Place. A place that's... Evil." LOL.

4:35 "It knows your face. It's ALIVE. Damn." Lol!

4 turbochips? Lol, GIant Boulders.. Good comedy routine. Love your videos, and I"m glad to see each review is awesome. :3

  • LOL! Seriously! Giant Boulders? Where else are you going to find that? :)

  • I swear just the way you review these games makes them seem better than I remember!

  • Ha! It's all part of my evil plan! Muhahahahaha!

I love the Turbo so...I think they definitely tend to swing toward the "positive" (where if I was reviewing them against other systems I would probably be a lot more strict, you know?). :)

  • Very well done, as usual.

  • Thanks, as always! :)

  • this was weird to play 4 me,especially the mystery maze late in the game, but good no less. Another good vid mane.

  • Thanks!

  • this game is like astyanax for the tg 16.

  • Ha! Yeah, I can see that. I used to play Astyanax, though I couldn't pronounce it to save my life back then. :)

  • SWEET!!!!!!!!!! Chris i wanna thank you SO much!!!!!! The review was freakin awesome(as usual), but i was havin a real shi**y day and you made it seem a little bit brighter!!!!! Long live the king of youtube!!!!!!

  • Well, I'm ALWAYS glad I can help! :)

  • Good gravy, intelligent boulders!

  • I know. You can't even count on rocks being dumb-as-rocks anymore. :(

  • Nice review Sir, This is the proper Legandary Axe right, not the one they said was, but wasn't. Erm.

  • Thanks!

    Proper one?

  • D'oh, I'm thinking of Legendary Axe II.

LA1 was so popular in the US they wanted a sequel the following year, but there was no sequel available in time, so they just slapped the LA2 name on a title that looked a bit like LA1.

  • LA2 didn't deserve the name necessarily, but it was a pretty good game as well. Hee hee! :)
