  • Wow, someone screwed up, you CAN'T HEAR The Master's Guitar.

  • gamato

  • The solos to this song are amazing

  • I always feel pumped when I hear The Song Remains the Same. One of my favorites. Loved that it was one of the few songs that had electric 12 string other than Tangerine, Stairway to Heaven, and any other subsequent songs he used 12 string for. Has anyone ever wondered how heavy that guitar probably is?

  • although not my favorite band, Led Zeppelin were a landmark in rock history, and made the turniing point for the heavy bands in the future. masterly instrument skills, beautiful voice, stage presence, indeed a great band of the 70's. keep listening LZ frequently since 1971 when I was 10 years old

  • @manprogrock They are your favorite band

  • For whatever can said about the messiness of Page's onstage execution of the riffs, I am still left marveling at the design and suspense of the arrangement. By far, one rock's greatest anthems.

  • love it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • was 15 at knebworth.awesome

  • I was there it was an outdoor concert , they rocked !

  • I think the sound was messed up and didn't pick up the guitar right!

It happens sometimes when you're recording a band live.

I'm sure his playing sounded great at the actual concert!

  • @guitarttimman u mean jimmy page didn't now which guitar to choose? i really enjoyed the guitar sound

  • Bass sounds awesome, guitar sounds terrible

  • Anybody that can find any fault with Led Zeppelin needs psychiatric evaluation!

  • i was there at knebworth,at18y .still tripping

  • haha he is high.

  • John Bonham morreu de overdose num show nao foi nao ?

  • Only Gay I respect !!

  • @bobsaba Who ? None of the members of Zep are gay ! But IDK to whom you refer

  • Fuck, I'm old.

  • JPJ has never gotten enough credit in this band. He's really good. He can match Page on the guitar but nobody ever says that.....

  • @XDogTagDanX Wrong,

Jimmy Page ~ Jimi Hendrix > GOD

  • Zoso 4 Ever!!!

  • Jimmy Page is not of this world. Dude is more amazing than Jimi Hendrix

  • john BONHAM PRIMEIRO bATERA CONHECIDO COMO PÉ DE coelho ahuahauha tocava demais essa PORRA .......MELHOR BANDA DE TODOS OS TEMPO...

  • @Atsuy04 vc falou tudo........

  • jonesy is awesome in this song

  • a melhor banda de todos os tempos, valeu Led Zeppelin, para sempre.

  • dont let the flame of rock go out!!!!!!!!!

  • Ah yes,Jimmy and his LEGENDARY double neck. The guitar wizard at his best>ZOSO

  • WOW;Great!

  • oh my god!

    epic song! epic perfomance!

i love this song! amazing composition!

  • I too have DVD. Man they were ready to rule the world and played like it.

  • I have the whole Knebworth shebang on dvd. I bought it on amazon. com. All Zep fans should have this

  • I like Jimmy's little "Jig" at 3:58

  • I love the fact that Page writes music to the edge of his ability.

  • Plant has moved on. I'm sure most of you wouldn't want to be doing what you were doing 31 years ago. And re. the "twangy bass", it didn't sound twangy to the audience; perhaps it's just that bass frequencies don't get absorbed by the crowd and travel further so a mix needs to have the higher frequencies notched up little to balace this effect; it depends where your recording was sourced - from the foldback mix or from the main output. Anyway this is still an awesome song.

  • yeah unreal because hes real

  • Good ol' Fumble-Fingers Page at it again.

  • want that guitar, wouldnt mind jimmy coming with it

  • john paul jones shoouldve sticked with his fender

  • @102ledzepfan Your not getting the bass as it sounded there. The effect of the soundboard recording is killing the lows because they were so substantial on the site. It was corrected on the live DVD somewhat

  • @wjhandy you are wrong

i have an audience source recording of this show and the bass is still as twangy

  • @Matthew9444 JPJ liked it and thats good enough for me. Over Europe recordings confirm my beliefs as well as 77 stuff

  • @wjhandy even i love zep the bass from 77- is aweful imo

  • @102ledzepfan An alembic is 10 times the bass that a Fender is. A series two like he is using here costs about 20k.

  • Of course its still a good show, just not by far as good to me as the other. Pages guitar sounds the way it does here because its a multi generational soundboard copy, not because of Page himself. I still prefer the 8/4 performance to this one either way. i guess i'm anyone with anykind of ears and hearts (-_o)

  • This is the start of the 8/11/79 show. This show is not as good as the 8/4/79 show. Its hard to tell which show is which visualy because they wore the same clothes for both concerts. Pages guitar sound sounds very muddy here, as would be expected for all content from the same concert posted by black diamond. the drums and bass sound clearer here from what ive heard in the past of this 8/11 show, in this particular posting.

  • @LedZeppelinisgod100 no i wish i was. i was born in the wrong decade. the decade of horrable music and the reunion of the giants of rock.

  • @Canadiarockmusic same, man. :( stupid fucking bieber......thank god for people like Jack White and Joe Bonamassa.

  • @LedZeppelinisgod100 biebers A DOOSH.

  • @Canadiarockmusic he's such a DOOSH one does not even have to spell that word correctly. thats how much of a DOOSH he is.

  • @LedZeppelinisgod100 haha todays41 years since woodstock! yay!

  • @Canadiarockmusic i know!!!!!! :D celebrating the day by watching the Hendrix Woodstock DVD. :)

    .......ON ACID.

    .....jk.

    but seriously.

    no, jk.

  • I saw the Plant and Page in the 90's tour and Jimmy page was not on heroin and played better.

  • haha those triplets 1:48 to 1:53. freaking awesome

  • from 0:00 - 5:08 i peed in my pants

  • @Canadiarockmusic im peeing my pants AFTER 5:08.

  • The last Performance of "Ten Years Gone"....

  • Turn Jimmy up!!

  • The best song of the knebworth was Kashmir!!!!!

  • This Video is of the 4 or 11 of August?

  • @AdrianCh1968 11th of August.

  • wow why wasn't this on the dvd? this is excellent! even plant's vocals are great considering his voice change

  • led zeppelin=GODS

  • insane guys.

  • no one gets jimmy unless they understand his acoustical concepts

  • guitar players - jimmy is sometimes sloppy by today's standards but watch that right hand driving the hell out of the band.

  • live - one of the HARDEST and greatest bands of the whole fucking planet...

    love them!

    nice teeth Robert! :D

    sooooo fucking raw!

  • Good,bad,great,average...Led Zeppelin kicked the living s**t out of any band at the time i.e The Stones, The Who, Aerosmith,Queen

  • @mrsoundtrack ahah as if the stones rule led zep anyday, I love both but the stones a little more.

  • Comment removed

  • Actually, I'm not watching this video. Just listening to it. Sounds good to me. Even Page's playing. Although, not his best, still decent. This is such a kick ass song either way.

  • just reading comments...easy to criticise,I wonder if any of you could write or play half as well straight or stoned, jimmy page is a brilliant artist and JPJ is an accomplished musician by any standards

  • Everybody, just shut the f*** up and just watch the video. If you don't like then just don't watch it

  • jimmy cant do this hes trying to play like 3 guitar parts

  • Stop saying they bombed this show. Ok they weren't great in this show but that's because they were sick of playing. They only remained a group because they didn't wanna disapoint fans. You're lucky they didn't give up.

  • no, it's because of the drugs. Jimmy was always strung out on heroine and Bonzo was always drunk. So yeah, this is a good concert for them in a long time though.

  • @JimmyPage968 Yeah, Jimmy was smacked out, and it was tough to watch, but though a relatively "average" concert, they did a best-ever "Ten Years Gone" and had a few other high notes. I was impressed they kept the train rollin' that long, and the UK fans were so grateful for the appearances (first time in 4.5 years in England and, as such, last ever)

  • ive heard better 10 years gone performances

    21/6/77 is way better

  • @Matthew9444 ru kidding give the link buddy

  • @gunsnatcher2112 to what?

    10 years gone from LA?

i posted that comment months ago

reply to me so i can be sure then ill post

  • @headbanger34567 well plant was sick of it look at jimmy present day he wants to play again and look no one wants to expt jonesy and jason

  • They cant play...tour wise..the reunion was fine...but they wont play for one reason....in honor of John Henry Bonham...Without him there is no Zeppelin as goes for the other members too.

  • @Marineincident91 They won't play because Plant won't do it. Everyone else, including Jason Bonham wants to. Plant is holding out.

  • @musicmann1967

He is prolly afraid that the reviews wouldn't be good...no way he can carry the notes he used to...he is the king of Rock when it comes to voice; well...was the king.

  • Page is so H'd out in this show, it's pathetic!!

I love Jimmy but this is just so bad....

  • Why the Alembic sounds so Twangy is because JPJ uses a pick on the Alembic and Alembic Basses are for fingers, not picks. As much as I love JPJ, I some times question how good he is because of him using picks on basses.

  • it's actually an 8 string bass.

  • You cannot question JPJ in this case cuz he is smart enough to think of using a pick to make shorter notes that pop out so there for him using a pick in some cases prove his genius and we know he can work his fingers by how he plays dazed and confused, bring it on home and immigrant song to name a few

  • He sometimes uses picks because it creates another sound. Why can a good guitar player use a pick but it's wrong for a bassist to use one? Makes no sense to me.

  • @MrDrProfessorJrMD well you have to look at in a bassist view. As a fellow bassist i feel a lot more limited while using a pick then using fingers. Many of my friends, who are also bassists, feel the same way about this. You can do SOOOO much more with your fingers than you can with a pick.

  • GREAT

  • Of course, you had to be there... thank god I was! My first ever concert - how blown out of my mind was I? And not a single narcotic in sight... unforgettable

  • ... but THE GREATEST BAND EVER!!!

  • Nacho66, its a live show, from 1979, its very good for its time!! The bass is awesome, you should go get your fat ears checked out!!

  • 30 years ago today. Jeeze!

  • thank u 74blackdiamond74 4 putting all these even tho i have the dvd 2 knebworth but thanks and zeppelin r gods

  • only one word

    wonderful

  • from 1:48 to 1:52 John Bonham is the king

  • ledzepfreak123, never mind 1:48 to 1:52, Bonham was the king to sept 1980!!

  • @ledzepfreak123 yeah, but i think that fill was intended to have afew more hits...

  • @ledzepfreak123

    wrong.

From 31 May 1948 to FOREVER, Bonham is the king.

  • @AllysWorld05

    you're right man!

  • @ledzepfreak123 Bonham is always king!

  • @ledzepfreak123

WOHHH, WHATS MORE THAN TRIPPLETS? DRUM GOD........GUITAR, VOCAL, AND BASS GODS

  • I much prefer the sound of J Baldwin's Jazz bass to this.

  • 10 4 on that bonzo. The Jazz held the bottom end . For ten+ years, JPJ just got the Alembic and was happy to have something different. Active pickups, new sound, etc.

  • Jimmy Page is unreal.

  • this show was the 12th aug i think the aug 4th show is much better page is so high this day, show starts out smoking but falls short at the end.

  • What are you talkin abou there were 2 gigs one nite after the other I was there :)))

  • They were 4th and 11th of August you monkey haha. I like the way you reply to your own comments by the way haha.

  • Hey, it's the 8th and the 11th not the 12th and 4th or the 11th or 6th or 7th got it.

  • its the 4th and 11th

a google search will prove you wrong

  • you are right 6th and 7th aug :)))

  • why wont Jimmy put this stuff on a new DVD they could make the sound so much better...dam this is good.

  • band was much better here than in 77. jimmy seems better physically. kinda sad it ended only a few months later

  • robert had amazing hair

  • robert and jimmy still have their hairs

  • ya their hair is cool i have hair like jimmy with roberts colour lol i know not important but,

and ya i know im canadian

    GO LEAFS GO

  • @JimmyPage115 man i play guitar i play zepp stuff and i used to have the exact hair like jimmy untill i was forced to cut it lol aw well good show

  • I think people who say that Zeppelin peaked in early 73 late 72 need to consider the fact that both Jonesy and Bonzo got better every single tour. If Jimmy could have gotten off drugs a bit earlier and Bonzo had lived then the 1980s could have been even better.

  • youre dead right

    jonesy in carouselambra sounds amazing

  • People make mistakes, and I'm sure Jimmy, more than anyone else, realizes his.

  • (to ledhead) i agree...i'm thinking about how much rock music changed from the 70's to the 80's, and wonder if led zeppelin would've still been great... but if it hadn't ended how it did, i think rock in the 80's would've been completely different. who knows.

  • this i think is their very end, they were still led zeppelin but they were going downhill. I think that the 1970-1973 was their best time

  • This was something like their second to last tour. I agree with you that their best time was 1970-1973, but 1969 and 1974 were also pretty good as well.

  • Zeppelin never toured in 1974...Also 1970 was probably my favorite, if only they had their full repertoire of songs at the time, THAT WOULD BE AMAZING

  • Oops, I meant 1975.

  • solid state bass amp sounds good that was jones taste he never used tube bass amps odd huh all that money

  • Solid State amps such as the Acoustic 370 and Gallien Krueger stuff (used here) were terrific amps.

They gave bassists a clarity at high volume (the Ampeg SVT was the only tube exception) that was great in the primordial and high-volume arena of '70's live concerts.

If you were Led Zep, Grand Funk RR, Ted Nugent, The Stones, Kiss, etc. you still needed stage volume.

All-Tube isn't always better for bass. Different enviroments call for different needs.

  • Page was probably partying all day too... hell hes in the greatest band ever! And he wrote all that shit!

  • That 8 or 12 string bass sounds like dog shit!

  • Holy shit page`s tone was soo bad,Sounded like he`s playing a guitar made from elastic bands.

  • I,m surprised Jones even knows where there up to in the song, Lucky he knows it backwards.

  • that bass tone..

    yummy

  • This could be my favorite performance, amazing how Page battled it out till the end, even though it wasnt amazing, he played, very well, and performed. All that heroin, laying on his shoulders.

  • Sorry folks. I love Zep. Love Page - but he was ass-horrible there. Too high to be playing.

  • The biggest effect I think the drugs had on Page's playing was just stayin awake for days on end.Your extremities begin to weaken and your digits become difficult to control .

  • @wonderfulbob

Yes poor old Pagey is just scagged off the planet .

  • nice and raw...but with a richness it takes years to acheive.

  • yes,

  • And the sound problem wasn't actually a problem. He just didn't turn the gain on the guitar up all that much here. Trust me. I know this :). The band wanted that raw feel. That is what separated them from the rest of the pack. I mean even The Eagles as big as they were, they were quoted admiring Led Zeppelin lol. That quote shows how powerful these guys were. Not another band has ever really "owned" the high light.

  • Anthaleus ,

BTW, Joe Walsh of the Eagles gave Jimmy Page his 1958 Sunburst Gibson Les Paul

    Back in 1969

that guitar now being among the most valuable in the world - the Stairway to Heaven solo was played on it

Walsh said, it makes me feel really good that it ended up in all that music."

  • Not true. Page actually used a '58 Telecaster for the STH solo.

  • Correct. Page mostly used Fender guitars for his studio work. I think only 1 song was recorded with the Double-neck, which is Carouselambra.

  • The Stairway to heaven solo was played with his Telecaster in the studio version not his Les Paul

  • The 12-String part was also played on a Fender XII electric.

  • The knebworth show was very much the glimpse into how powerful Led Zeppelin were becoming. They went from the hippie gods we saw them as to strong powerful figures that every band back then looked up to and followed. Between 1975 and 1978 something changed. They achieved such a powerful state. This whole show was heavy and then, well, we all know about the 1980's. They were heading to be the most powerhouse rock band ever known. Not that they weren't already ;)

  • at knebworth there was some led light around jimmy page... is it false?

  • i lnow page got to high sometimes after 1976 but hes not sloppy he was just that good very telaxed when playing he wasnt tied down with timming worrys like mere mortals lol, there will never ever bee anything like him again just enjoy

  • The band will be forever known for the pilots of the Led Zeppelin, and all of their passengers are their fans. Even when the Zeppelin is made out of lead, it'll never crash, it'll just keep on flying higher and the more fans who decided to ride along make zeppelin heavier, but the heavier it gets, the higher it'll fly.. May the Zeppelin fly forever and never crash and burn. fly high, Led Zeppelin.. fly high..

  • This video is doing something to JPJ's bass, it doesnt sound right

  • It's an eight-string, I think. Got a little twang to it from the octave strings.

  • anybody knows the song name of the song in the local sound before start the concert?

  • The Song Remains The Same Is Such a Fast Paced

Guitar song,It's One Of The Hardest To Play

because To Play It Right,You Need a 12 String

    Double Neck Gibson

  • JPJ is using an Alembic just like John did. ;D

  • such a horrible guitar tone! what happened jimmy?
