You're just GRAT! I wish i could play piano like you some day. I'm actually studing music and, i must say your video inspired me a lot to keep going on, no matter how hard it is..
I beleive on the very last measure you didnt do a triplet rather, just two chord notes before the final chord, just an observation wonderful perfomance though, bravo!
@Faxe90Swe Bro r u high? i play dis song nnd listen to it along with the music nd hes playin it almost flawlessly with a lil miscount at the Moderato Tranquilo part
@Faxe90S If you want to critique so harshly, critique a professional. PaulBarton's videos are more for helping those who want to improve their skill on the piano, and he is excellent at that, and for someone who's not a professional performer, he plays this piece in very well... so don't be such an asshole.
@Faxe90Swe Its a little unrealistic to expect a musician to play a piece perfectly. Yes, there are people who can do it, but if everybody played the same thing the same way, wouldnt that make for a lot of boring, monotonous music? No thanks, there are MIDI files for that.
I don´t believe in perfection. It doesn´t exist. Even Lang Lang makes mistakes! I believe for the sound of it, that you played it MARVELOUS. Thank you for posting this fabulous and dark piece. I loved it.
@Faxe90Swe did you seriously say that? this is really well played! and if you know nothing about piano like you say then maybe you shouldn't criticize someone as good as him! because most of the time in piano music.. the notes dont have to be perfect as long as feeling is put into the piece!
@PaulBartonPiano don't listen to that guy. You do a remarkable job here, and you remain humble about it in the face of faceless internet scoffs. You're great, and you should be proud. Trust me, I'm a janitor.
@Faxe90Swe You have two options that are better than complaining like a woman: (1) Stop watching it. Evgeny Kissin does this song too. (2) Make your own video...oh you can't? I figured.
@sweetness902101209 -- you're right, it would! - not sure about an alto clarinet part but you could be the first to make the arrangement if not. Hope you get to play it with the school band.
I've been practicing this song for a short time and I find I'm having trouble playing the last line of page one and the second line of page 2 where the melody is in the left hand. Normally I can end up picking it up but for this song I dont seem to be getting any better. Do you have any advice?
@taylorinuzuka -- I'm going to make time for a bunch of tutorials - if this piece interests you I'll put it on the list. I think you'll agree, it's one of those 'must play pieces' and is a bit tricky at times as you say, in those places. Get a strong feel for the chord shapes, just play the basic chords up and down without the melody, then return add it later once you have these chords second nature, to add melody. Good luck with it!
@PaulBartonPiano thanks for replying so quickly ^^ I'll try that. And yes, this is definitally a 'must play piece'. It just sounds so powerful and cool. I can't wait till I am able to play it well! =D
Great version! Do you have any tips for pianists with very small hands? I can barely stretch an octave (and I mean barely at full stretch!) I'm 33 so please do say wait until you're fully grown cause I ain't gonna grow anymore lol. I really want to play this and In the Hall of the Mountian King!! Thanks
@nuttynatty1999 -- If you can reach an octave you should be able to play this arrangement and definitely the Grieg. I wouldn't let your hand size ever put you off playing the pieces you like. If there's a note here and there you can't play, omit them and enjoy making music with the notes you can.
@MDkid1 -- Sometimes pianists get aches and pains in their hands. It usually stems from tension somewhere en route from neck to fingers (even back). It's not always easy but aim to avoid tensing wrists, create ff volume with arm, hand and body weight, in combination with the speed you press down keys (like Karate) while remaining at the same time, subtle and breath normally if you can.
@PaulBartonPiano All excellent pointers. I shall try to interpret and do as you have instructed. It is very difficult to undo old methods, but I am determined not to do injury so that many years of playing can ensue! Thanks
lol I know you say the piece isn't as difficult as it sounds. I disagree. The right hand is relatively easy (at least until until does the melody in octaves), the left hand, octave & octave w/ third jumping that far is incredibly difficult, let alone while also playing the right hand. Also, good job.
Many thanks for sharing the score. I only stitched together the pieces from another vid, making it almost impossible to read the appoggiature (hope this is the correct term for the "pre-notes"). Also listening to the piece is inspiration and motivation for me to go on practicing. It is so much fun to play this piece and it gives me some kind of superior feeling when I finally manage to play another part fluently.
@Misspisces10 -- Thanks! Any tips? I am about to record a piano tutorial course for beginners over on my pianoanswers channel. Tips? Learn to read music well as soon as you can. In some countries, such as France, they have music reading/theory lessons before practical on instruments, it's a good way.
@ThePianoApprentice -- Thanks ... I'm sure you can play this! the piece really isn't as difficult as it sounds. I'm planning to do a tutorial on it and play it in several slightly simplified versions that sound just about the same ...
the theme of 'star crossed lovers' is so well expressed in the second gentler movement....such a beautiful contrast, yet the opening is so alluring and powerful, so lucky to hear paul's breadth of expressiveness, as the music eases back into the theme.
Amazing. Such an expressive and powerful performance! I think this is about the best quality piano version of "Montagues and Capulets" on YouTube in terms of performance and sound quality. I highly recommend to watch this in HQ and bass levels set to max on your speakers - goosebumps!
