  • @Sponge14U Yes, quite terrifying. I think the camera man would be getting worried by this time also. It's almost as if no one was expecting it to be so severe.

  • It's a shame that people have to die for footage like this to exist. But, this is incredible...hopefully this area was mostly spared

  • Shocking

  • I'd bet the camera man never thought it was going to be THAT serious.

  • @leedaocheng No, he is dead, but the camera is found 8 days later :P

  • Ragnarök,Tokyo Sky Tree

  • I hope those who survived are recovering, and that they have found decent places to stay while they rebuild.

Growing up in Maine, I've seen the ocean do things that at the time I found terrifying. None of what I've seen compares to this; it's like comparing a mean dog to a rabid grizzly.

Added this to my list, for the sake of research in the future.

  • In Hollywood films, you always see the ultimate, REALLY high wave that smashes cities, and engulfs people in the blink of an eye.......All fair and good, but look at this REAL footage...it builds up over time, aweing you with every second. It's NOT over in 30 seconds, it's ongoing for minutes/hours, slowly but surely. Now THATS frighting, thats the TRUE power of nature........

  • @djzee1000 It would have been over in second for those who weren't near a large sea wall...

  • ARE YOU ALIVE?

  • Are you ok?

  • TERRIBILE non ci sono altre parole

  • HAARP the weapon

  • insane vid..

  • Impresionante!!!

  • A lot of people think tsunamis are like waves, but they're more like a large chunk of the ocean saying "hey, I think I'm going to go over here for a while".

  • Looks to me like the man made a smart choice here. The entire area behind him is much lower than where he is. The water will flow there instead of reaching up to him. Also the building is made of concrete and looks like its based in the breakwater and won't be scoured. Also the footage is very educational, for you can see that a Tsunami, even on shore, is nothing like the big wave, that wall of water that they show you in every science fiction. It takes almost 10 minutes to reach it's full hight

  • @Jameilalala

Yes. he was actually in a special tsunami/earthquake proof observation tower. But even then, the water rose so much higher than ever envisaged, he had to go to the very top. but yes, it would have been the safest place around. Good choice.

  • at 8:21 you escaped the waves just in time!! :O

  • balls of steel

  • she's dead

  • if i saw that this would be my reaction: HOLY SHIZZZZ -runs and screams - TSUNAMMMMIIIIII...

but u sir or women GOT GUTS

  • no kidding..that guy had ample time to take off..yet stuck with his balls out there..lol !

  • this seriously looks like 2012. with the birds flying around..........now you just have to picture the ark. its terrible

  • o.m.f.g! Cameraman should become a journalist - he wouldn't live long, but what pictures he would take!

  • @xichechin lol NOT ONLY the Japanese eats whales, some of us AMERICAN DID, and WHALES ARE ANIMALS, WE HUMAN ATE EVERY KIND OF ANIMAL, now your own kind being suffered and you could stand there and mock them for eating animal ? and Japanese started to stop hunting whales, and they use OTHER COMMON FISHS TO MAKE SUSHI YOU IDIOT, I don't eat whales but you will EAT THEM IF THEY ARE SOMETHING LIKE YOU.

  • @xichechin You're ignorant.

  • @xichechin fuck you chinese!

  • islam is the solution

  • @rachid4ful to what? stopping tsunami's? It cant stop it's own rabid influence by it's own extremists !!!

  • Wow. That was awesome footage. That breakwater was fantastic piece of engineering and even it was overwelmed.

  • DONT FUCK WITH THE OCEANS! Respect the sea... we pollute it, we deplete its limited resources, we acidify its environment, we take its role on our planet for granted, we underestimate its power and destructive capacities, we overfish it, we destroy its fragile ecosystems, we bleach her corals and murder her cetaceans...she can wash your world and loved ones away in minutes...DONT FUCK WITH THE OCEANS! Respect and protect the sea...or we are ALL dead!

  • @TheBmoll I really think this is just a big wave, not a seeded revenge on mankind by some intelligent presence that exists in water....

  • @MusicTewns. Not wishing to imply such MT. Nor (pleeeease) am I implying ANY causal relationship whatsoever between seismic events (and their consequences i.e tsunamis) and human environmental impact. Just attempting to state the case that the planets LPI (Living Planet Index) reached point critical in the mid 80's...that the primary impact is upon the marine ecosystems...that this has extreme consequences for humanity.

('We are all in the same boat'. J Y Cousteau)

  • That`s a pure nightmare, folks. I hope the Camera guy and his Buddy survived this Tsunami . Nerves of steel..

  • holy shit... the last 20 seconds really bring homr the terrifying aspect of this event... did he survive???

  • The ocean always scared me since a child.

  • It is very sad, what happened. I wish Japanese to overcome problems sadness, Greetings from Poland

  • That guy knew he wasn't in real danger. I think the water grew much more higher and violent than he suspected, but he was on a multistory concrete tower with steel staircase and could (and did) simply go higher as the water advanced.

  • One of the best documentaries of the Tsunami. It shows how the depth and speed of the water grows with each successive wave, and that a tsunami is actually a series of waves rather than a singular event. In this video it appears several times that the water has crested and is receding, only to be driven even higher and faster by yet another wave.

  • Exuse me? but may i ask WHY every video i watch at leat 5 people do this:

    _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

Whats up with it? what does it have to do with anything? can someone please tell me?

  • So impressive and scary... You have guts in staying there during the tsunami!

  • @kaiyno

    Chinese way thinking

  • @seas3142 I meant only northeastern Japan, where the tsunami hit, not all Japan.

  • @kaiyno

I know what you mean. maybe Iknow

We, Japanese are not living for NOT TO DIE.

    Living for how we live.

    Im glad if you understand.

  • @seas3142 I understand, never thought of it that way, but it's very true what you just said, living with fear is not living.

Didn't know you're Japanese, wish you the best for recovery from this tragedy and may God guide your path, earthquakes can't stop love, cheers :)
