she is utterly ridiculous. Yet another self-promoting hack who mistakes brazen narcissisism as gifted insight the world needs to know. Following her "advice" is usually a path to failure.
If she truly believes what she says, then she should start her own company and hire nothing but people from generation Y. There should be so little business risk since they are such "great" producers. But then, what product or service would they provide?
Also, in my opinion, her genaralisations are so ridiculous. There are good and bad (attitudes, work ethic, people, etc.) in all generations. I will bet that percentages of successful people, average people, and people who contribute little to nothing to society will not be significantly different when comparing generation Y to any other generation.
Why is Penelope so enamoured with Generation Y? She said in one of her lectures that it is the most productive generation. I disagree because all of the facts are not yet in, Penelope. Discussions regarding "most productive" regarding generation Y probably cannot be discussed for another 20-30 years.
@Zedd459 My experiences with Gen Y is they didn,t put in long hours. They did their work quickly making many mistakes. Additionally, they often left work to go with friends to some social or entertainment event. What is so productive about that?
@chroniclerofthe70s Yes, it doesn't sound very productive to me. And I see that type of behaviour with other generations (including mine, Gen X) also. I still don't understand Penelope's infatuation with workers who have just graduated from university.
This woman recently got fired from Yahoo for her laughable career "advice"...for example "Don't ask for time off, just take it" & "Leave your headphones on while you work"...I don't know who's idea it is to keep letting this woman give advice. However, what she said about the Accounting profession is correct (I am one). And as a Gen Y accountant, I work very long hours, about 50+ a week.
@krogdog You work very long hours? I worked between 18+ hours 7 days a week for a three months straight in 103 degree weather at minimum wage just to make enouph to go to college. Many of my classmates did the same thing. I put in 10+ hours a day including 4+ hours on Saturday and Sunday in my most recent technical job. Gen Xers i know work from 7:30 A.M to 5:30 P.M. and often work overtime; they consider working 50+ a week as average and consider working 17+ hours a day as very long.
She gives some really good advice and some really bad advice. I like her even despite the fact that she is a psycho.
