What a great pity that this scene was deleted!.. Yes, movie came far away from the book, but if they did such a magic thing, they should show us a full version - maybe, on DVD - `cause I understand, It`s hard to spend too much time in cinema. Ehhh...
they should have kept this in the movie! if they were worried about time, they should have removed that stupid and unnecessary mini-battle scene at the burrow including it burning down, and all the awkward ginny and harry scenes just have to go
This is a beautifull scene. a piece of art on its own. It's the only scene that i'm REALLY sad wasn't in the movie. The feel, foreboding and light focus on "things to come" creates a fantastic effect.
The only reason it can't be in the movie is because it forewarns the ending and that would have ruined it utterly. A piece of art on its own. I hope this scene will be used in lessons on filmmaking.
and i love the idea of putting Snape into it because it definitely shows what he's thinking. and of COURSE ron and hermione at the end! just them by themselves is cute :)
Oh my goodness. This gives me chills. Rickman's acting is so spot on that his very expression probably would have given too much away to the five people who haven't read the last book, but jeez...This is amazing! His expression, the music, just brilliant!
i just got the HBP dvd and nearly died when i saw that this scene-that we all wish was in the movie-is practically IN the movie!!!! it shows mcgonagall, snape, and malfoy. the only thing it doesn't show is the choir. the song is in the background too. i was so mad!!!
I would loved for this to have been kept in the movie. They should have deleted Ron's house burning down instead. I don't even remember that being in the book.
@Beachangel1221 It wasn't. Rowling said they could put it in to prove the situation was serious. I would have loved this to be kept in, too. But Rickman acts so well it spoiled the ending right there, so they couldn't.
These latter are as close to the depth of the Half-Blood Prince mystery that might have had in the movie. Excellent music and sequencing!, and of course, Alan Rickman Professor Snape imprisoned. That blunder by David Yates cut the progress that had in this film by removing a masterful scene and with it the essence of the story linked in the Half Blood Prince / Severus Snape and Dumbledore's death. Included if any would have encouraged me to expect a decent finish ...
wow...strange effect. And I hate that part where (malfoy's?) feet get off the bed and onto the ground, because whenever I do that I get a hideous cramp in my feetsies and so I always flinch when i see that. *shudders*
hm... in regards to the movie being "boring"... i don't really mind it that way. Sure, they could have put in more of the battle scene at the end, but as far as character development, it was far from boring. You really get to see all the characters grow in this movie. I really enjoyed that factor of the movie. It makes a great lead up to the 7th.
Yeah, I mean those scenes at the cave for example are very nice, but that strained romantic stuff does not really support the plot. Refering to the development of the characters: especially the younger characters were not very well acted. I think that there is no real difference between the last movie and this one related to the maturity. But the older actors did a really good job. I was very impressed by the development of Dumbeldore and Snape. You really believe in the inner disunity of Snape!
What a powerful and dark scene. It's amazing. But it wouldn`t make the movie better.
David Yates has failed once more! He has made more a soap opera than a very good Harry Potter film. I looked it twice and it`s already boring! Why did he left out the figth between McGonagall, the other teachers, Dumbeldore`s Armee and the Death Eaters???? What a waste!!
OMG, why did this awesome scene got deleted? It's so dark and sad and it would have a great inpact on the movie and in the audience. Stupid director and WB.
Really, just an outstanding job by Rickman. You can actually SEE the full realization of what he's going to have to do hit Snape, suddenly, like a physical blow.
And the play of light and shadow over his face is perfect.
I think they could of left it in. As u said it was dark and foreboding,Plus alan rickmans face was priceless, he looked so sad and full of regret. Which is how it is in the book.
As much as I like this scene I can see why it was cut. It's really just filler that sets the dark and foreboding mood. I assume this takes place just before Harry and Dumbledore search for the fake Horcrux.
Just look Alan Rickman's (Snape's) face and the way it changes the moment the choir sings ''live without regret''. I wonder,is he thinking of Lilly Potter?
@Lukas01A That is the only line I can decipher. But it helps to be able to tell what they're singing, because then his expression changing is more emphasized.
I really like this scene. I dont understand why they didnt keep it. This was before hogwarts was infiltrated, right? Its beautiful, it sets the mood. Any time they use ominous choir music in harry potter, it always seems right. The part showing snape was really powerful. You could interpret it two ways, depending on whether you know what happens next. And the simplicity of the shot with malfoy translates what he's been going through. Hopefully they'll include it in some extended DVD edition.
I assume they took it out so that it's more like the book with them coming back to hogwarts with everything having gone to sh*t but i like this scene more than the whole film.
This is really too bad. Great scene with some excellent music that adds to the dark atmosphere HBP should've had more of. Oh well, the movie was good, but after seeing this, why didn't they include it? T-T
Are you sure this is legit? Because about 95% of that footage actually WAS in the movie so this could have very easily been made by an amateur. But it's still cool. ^_^

I think it does give too much away so I can see why they left it out but excellent scene.
This was awesome. I wish they had kept it in. Even if the snape thing makes it way obvious that he is good(it was obvious even without this). It was still awesome.
this would've been soooooooooooo awesome! this probably would have been my favorite scene from the whole movie actually... i love deep, emotional stuff like this.
Chris Columbus looked more on joy and happiness, which makes since if you think about it. You've got to remember, the first two Harry Potter installments revolved around their lives as children, and so the movie was intentionally directed toward children. I believe that if this kind of stuff was in the first two, it would take away from the story since it's supposed to have more of a "happy" atmosphere, while years 3-7 are more mystical and teenage/adult oriented. Adults can respect it more.
When I was little I was upset at the sudden change at the 3rd but as the characters change so does to atmosphere around them and to this day one of my favorites is the 2nd movie and I will never forget the dat 2001 December 17 when I came out of the theatre from philosophers stone thats the they I got struck by the Harry Potter Fever :D
anyone know the name of this song? i hear the word 'cantate' so i think it has some latin with english.. awesome scene, the hogwarts choir is awesomeee, the other song they sung with the frogs in gof (i think?) that was cool
It's call "In Noctem". It's on the soundtrack, and it's a very beautiful piece of music. By the way, the song with the frogs was "Double Trouble", and it was in POA.
I believe this part falls in when the death eaters enter the school. Of course I could be wrong, but I think I remember seeing draco getting out of bed right before he let the death eaters come through.
I love this song. I play all the time when I'm in the mood.
I love the song and how they show the characters saying absolutely nothing (except Mcgonnagal... that kinda ruined it, imo - broke the spell!) I think it's best left out of the movie, but I think the song would have been fantastic.
If that was left in the movie it would have added a whole new mood to the movie that would have been appropriate leading up to Dumbledores death. Anyone who didn't read the book would have know that something big was going to happen.
Does anyone know who composed this part and what the title is?
Thanks in advance ;)

It's call "In Noctem". It's on the soundtrack, and it's a very beautiful piece of music. By the way, the song with the frogs was "Double Trouble", and it was in POA.
MrBAM1991 2 years ago
Half of it is Latin and the other half is English. Google "In Noctem lyrics" if you want to know them.

I believe this part falls in when the death eaters enter the school. Of course I could be wrong, but I think I remember seeing draco getting out of bed right before he let the death eaters come through.
I love this song. I play all the time when I'm in the mood.

I like this scene. They should have kept it. I wonder exactly where it would fall in the movie though. Are they looking at the dark mark or somthing?
MrBAM1991 2 years ago 3
It takes place between the cave and Astronomy Tower scenes.

Well it is a slightly fuzzy clip on YouTube. It might not look that way on the DVD.

I love the song and how they show the characters saying absolutely nothing (except Mcgonnagal... that kinda ruined it, imo - broke the spell!) I think it's best left out of the movie, but I think the song would have been fantastic.
Still, good scene. :)

That should have been in the movie. Would have set a far more eerie mood.
SammyWinchester 2 years ago
If that was left in the movie it would have added a whole new mood to the movie that would have been appropriate leading up to Dumbledores death. Anyone who didn't read the book would have know that something big was going to happen.
