Mali,Nigeria,Niger,Senegal using Arabic as 1st or 2nd language like Chad,Sudan before(black people who use Arabic) before, but when french came they teach local nationalism & hate toward Arab that they should't use Arabic & replace French & ban Arab, replace native,France also did to Algerian & other Berber to stop using Arabic but fail, when i go to Mali they're still many spoke Arabic in Mali, hope government of Mali try best to preserve Arabic before young/new generation cant spoke Arabic & gone
Actually, I did try it, in 1970. But the boat sailed right by Mopti, because while I slept, a cholera quarantine was imposed on Mopti, so I had to just go back to Dakar. This boat trip must have been worse than the Dakar-Bamako train!!!
Thanks for the beautiful footage which brought back memories of my trip there (on our own little boat with crew) in 1995. I will never forget the serenity on the river, the mosquitoes every night (my girlfriend and I slept under a net but our guides would wake up bloody through their shirts), and the ferocious windstorm one night that almost destroyed our boat. And Timbuktu had an amazing sense of history. I recommend this trip to anyone adventurous.
