I did not attend the rally in St. Clairsville Ohio rally that was on the 12th. To explain this first, I support neither Obama nor McCain. I plan on voting for neither.
The things they are promising in our area is extremely tempting, simply because we have been hit hard in the last couple decades with the nearly defunct steel industry in what used to be the area that produced the most steel in the county. Last week, 800 steel workers were laid off. How is this not tempting?
Three to five thousand, max, with a lot of Obama supporters.
I talked to a bus driver who said he drove from Virginia. If I understood him correctly, the McCain campaign is bussing in the faithful from outside of Ohio to cover low turnout. WCBE radio recorded a demonstrator who said, "They hold up 'Country First' placards, but many are rich who send young people to fight their war. The rest are sheep." A huge percentage of the Bush tax cut goes to the top 5%.
I also attended the Obama rally outside of the McCain event on Monday. The next day's Columbus Dispatch included an article by editor Joe Hallett which stated the crowd at the McCain event to be 9,000. That is three times the maximum capacity of the venue...and is totally inaccurate. No one was turned away from the event and late-comers did not need tickets to get in. Mr. Hallett;s newspaper seems to be doing its best to spread the McCain "populous" story but it is not accurate.
