After the landing, there was a person spotted running from the aircraft so fast, that he lost his shoes. It was later determined that it was the captain abandoning the aircraft.
Many departures from best practices there. For instance, the use of ground radio wording like "Roger" is not recommended on ATC communications. Let alone the "funny" remarks on the female pilot.
Basically, whether the Emergency was due to Onions or not, when dealing with HAZMAT, especially in the aviation world, it is better to be safe than sorry. I wouldn't be pissed if I was on shift and this guy declared emergency, and I found out about the onions later. It's all part of my job man. We should all strive to handle emergencies like Mr. Boston John.
when he was telling the fire command the toxic chemical where you have ?? in the captions it sounds like he is saying "UN2811" which is selenium oxide which is a toxic/poisonous solid.
Btw i just got my PPL here in italy and passed the TEA exam and you have no idea how useful are this videos to practice aeronautical conversations, ty.
i loooooooooooove when they speak in spanish... how cool is that!!!! love the acent..for me who actually speak spanish is very nice to hear those guys talking like that
@traceynorthernstar Yes it is. The female version of the word "aviator" is aviatrix, worldwide. In your previous reply you said yes, but now you say no?
@landmark425 In England we are actually taught how to drive and have the strictest driving test in the world!!!!!!! If you knew ANYTHING about Aviation, then you'd know the MASSIVE difference between being a 'Woman driver' and a female pilot!!! £80,000 and 3 years of training!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@traceynorthernstar oh trust me. I see women pilots in the pattern all the time, and they cant fly worth shit. Leave aviation to us...theres always ATC.

he uses too many Spanish words, once in a while is fine, but making that many parting comments in Spanish, is kinda fishy. They do it long enough, and it might become a tradition in aviation to use those words. He'd better stick to the beautiful language of English.
pack those onions for AIR CRAFT ready and who needs onions shipped? gawd, nasty request, who is the dumbass to accept such a request? dam it grow them in your backyard
Godspeed, as a word, is a wish for a prosperous journey, success, and good fortune (from Middle English God speed you, meaning "May God help you prosper").
in easy to understand terms: they tell you an altimeter setting and if you don't set the airplane's altimeter to match what you are told, your instruments may show your plane flying higher or lower than it actually is which can obviously cause a crash or other problems. hope that helps. peace!
They're not going to fill the entire airplane with one type of thing. There are probably a bunch of computer parts, etc on board too. They don't put all the onions on one plane then bring in another plane for the computer parts.
Perfect air traffic controller Boston John, he keeps a light atmosphere and always gives his directions clearly and correctly. Now if only I could find him on liveatc...
Boston John is a winner...a great controller with a sense of humor...it seems like you can tell the temperament of an air traffic controller just by listening to his voice, and if were I checking onto his frequency, I would assume he is in a good mood...this video made me laugh out loud...also glad to hear the Air Italia landed safely, no matter how ridiculous the emergency.
well it may be funny, but imagine if the pilots had dismissed the smell, and rather than it being the onions it was the chems, than you probably wouldve read a different story than onions, you wouldve of read of a plane crash.
@QazBomber: that controller is "Boston John", easily one of the most amusing and friendly controllers I've ever heard. It's just his thing to send off planes with a "hasta la vista".
As far as the pilots, they're probably just used to him doing it and respond in kind.
Landing was probably the right choice (I believe most smart pilots around would have done the same). However, it's ironic that the HAZMAT team (hazardous materials) identified the minced onions as the source of the problem.
haha NOW I'm listening the BOS DEP/ARR frequencies.. and I listened JETBLUE 845 haha... but isn't woman :(

How do you make an ILS Approach without the glideslope? Is it like a non-precision approach?

@737FSPilot you just fly the plane, it's that easy, just fly it down manually.

Pilot claimed it was UN2811 they were carrying. MSDS Name: Sodium oxalate.
I can understand them being nervous but mistaking the scent of onions for that?

I might be wrong but what the pilot said sounds more like "UN 28211", which doesn't exist, but UN 2821 is phenol solution.
