  • Today we had a German dance teacher come into our school and teach us a little capoeira. I really, really enjoyed it. I think it's different, it's engaging, and most of all it's fun. Don't get me wrong, it was just one session. We just learn the basic jengaa moves. I found it pretty easy to do, the kicking and the ducking. ... Actually, I found it ALOT easier, compared to our street dance. I popped my shoulder on the street dance, but with capoeira, it's flowing, energetic and pretty gentle. :D

  • Our friend @FCKEVRY1 explanation about Capoeira is actually flawed, please go read Wikipedia article about Capoeira for the right version of it's origins.

  • I can imagine doing this in a hardcore pit at a hardcore show when everyone else is hardcore dancing. Capoeira is really getting me interested and I would like to practice it as a martial arts and a dance.

  • God, imagine doing this to fast moving hardcore techno

  • What is the name of the song they are playing in the beginning?

  • Yes!!!

  • Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian art form that combines elements of martial arts, music, and dance. It was created in Brazil by African slaves by mixing the many fighting styles from many of their tribes, sometime after the sixteenth century. It was developed in the region of Quilombo dos Palmares, located in the Brazilian state of Alagoas.

  • @corbin Wikipedia??????

  • gracie ji jitsu will kill this art

  • Brazil is the best ... i love this country ...

  • Thas fuxking sick!

  • i dunno much of this martial arts but i see weak spots sure its for defense but by looking a the style there is a disadvantage in it if you use it in a cramped space + if i was the opponent if you take ur eyes off of me ur going down... this martial arts do lots of turnings one of its weakness...

  • @kenyb0010 you're right. it's really hard to do it in small places and the goal is to take up all the space. You have to find the opponents weak spots

  • thats a good teacher. if he lived next door 2 me i whould school all his students!

  • what's the name of the song that starts at 0:40?

  • Comment removed

  • what's the name of the first song??? please !!!

  • this, people, is what i've been doing since I was nine. I love it more than all the other dances i do.

  • WOW now that is awesome break dancing...

  • whats the name of this song in backrground?

  • i don't see how its a martial art....they don't even spar, they just kick at each other(never making contact) and do flips. if they get jumped or something yea they'd be able to show off but if its someone who knows how to fight they're screwed.

  • @fahqthishit then u should go to a capoeira school and ask to take part int heir roda to prove that they can't fight

  • @fahqthishit those kicks never make contact, because they are quite lethal. A skilled capoeirsta can beat the shit out of a person no worse than any other MA, believe me.

  • cool video

  • capoeria is african dance.........originally brought to brazil...... and its awesum respect to my bro/sis

  • interesting

  • Yes Friend. Tell it like it is. this is true.

  • capoeira is better than karate,i was about to learn but it didn't workout because i ended up not having time for it because of my job and school, but i love this sport, and capoeira is more about defense, although some of the defense could easely break somebody's neck or any limbs if they really wanted to,capoeira !(i'm brazilian)

  • FCKEVRY1....your 100% right

  • copoeira is a really good fight art........... but i think when they attack there kicks and punches isnt that hard... as a kickboxer.. i want to now if it is... because i have met one there can capoeira and when he is doing it the kicks and punches is like my little bro is kicking me .. he is 7 years old ..... XD

  • i done it today

  • i love capoeira!!!!!!!!!

  • lol, I'll love to learn capoeira, but it takes like 30 years to reach master level.

  • @kenshinthemaster

it takes many years to master anything

  • Man I would love to learn capoeira.

  • That guy (leader?) in the yellow tshirt is sooo smooth, it's like watching water run down hill! He is fluid! I stand in total awe! I was told about Capoeira today by a Japanese girl friend, so it's spreading all over the world - wonderful!

  • lol im goin to watch some of this next week and then im meeting a man who does capoeira and his gonna pick 4 of us to do a live show with him :) hopes its me

  • Capoeira is very popular in Brasil but its from Africa...Angola...

  • how do i get the HTML for

this video? i want to put this on

    my site!

  • fuckk youu warewolfonee

dickk can't do this type of shytt

  • Wow this was amazing

  • excellent video and demonstration of rhythm, dance and the art of capoeira. 5*****

  • Great video. Congratulation and thaks to disclose this afro-brazilian art.

  • And the Spelling being Capoeria is not right. I have this form misspelled in so many ways. It's Capoharra. The Brazillian toung causes the pronunciation to sound like capoeira. But it has been spelled Capoharra for a long time before it became popular.

  • @FCKEVRY1 Cite your source(s).

  • this is MADD

  • All of you are wrong! Capoeira didn't exist until African slaves who were skilled at the art of combat were brought to Brazil. The punishment for practicing combat as slaves was harsh and often death. So these clever people brought in some instruments and incorporated music and dance so that their owners would think that they were playing games and dancing when they were actually practicing their new and evolved meathod of defense. Nobody remember this part of Capoeira.

  • And the nicknames came about during the period when capoeira was outlawed in Brazil. The people that did capoeira called each other only by their nicknames so the police couldn't accurately identify who practiced capoeira.

  • Thank you for sharing this :), people need to know this important yet forgotten fact of Capoeria

  • FCKEVRY1 I do. that was the first thing we were taught at my capoeira class!

  • @FCKEVRY1 your 100% right

  • @FCKEVRY1 Thank Wikipedia...

  • @FCKEVRY1 i do :)

  • @FCKEVRY1 capoiera made by brazilians when the brazilians was slaves and they kick there ass

  • @FCKEVRY1 if it's african why do people call it Brazilian? (no hate) just Question....maybe there's more info we can find out from you...hehe, really know anymore info?

  • @djbroncoroc In Africa, it was just combat. When they were forced to come to Brazil, they added the dance IN BRAZIL and called it Capohara there, making it Brallian. I don't know why everyone calls and spells it "capoeira."

  • @FCKEVRY1 Sorry, but you're wrong. The actual name is really "Capoeira", that's the correct spelling.

Second, the word "capoeira" actually comes from "ka'a po uera" in Tupi (language from brazilian indigenous people), and designates a kind of vegetation made of low grass. It's believed they adopted the name as it's were they used to practice it.

Brazilian culture often mixes elements from Europe, Africa and indigenous natives, so don't assume stuff without studying.

    Greetings from Brazil.

  • @hcarvalhoalves So assume that I haven't studied this and tell me to not assume things? It's Capoharra. you're the one who lacks research.

  • @FCKEVRY1 I don't know where you got this "Capoharra" (this word doesn't even exist) history from, but if you go research you'll find the name actually comes from Tupi and is unique to Brazil. Despite the slaves coming from Angola, you won't find this martial art and cultural expression exists there. So I'm afraid whoever told you about Capoeira told you wrong, unless you wanna argue with a Brazilian like myself.

  • @hcarvalhoalves No argument. You are right. I contacted the person who taught me and it was I who misheard his pronunciation. Even if i hadn't called him, I would have nothing to say about your argument. Thanks for correcting me! :) Now I no longer have to look like an ass by calling it capoharra. I never liked that word.

  • @FCKEVRY1

  • @djbroncoroc The combat style is African, but the dance aspect was introduced in Brazil. Capoharra is not African. It's wasn't what it is today until it evolved and was named in Brazil.

  • @FCKEVRY1 great comment, they have not been talking to the poultry was a dance, actually it was forbidden to train something, then they camouflaged in a dance in order to train and study before you will say that capoeira is a dance, I'm sure one of them beat up you.

  • @FCKEVRY1 wow, I just know that now. thx for the info..

  • @FCKEVRY1 absolutely right but still missing a little.....capoeira was found of angola and youroba ritual to enter the stage of Obatala and Babaolo( stages sage and priesthood)..........and was brought to brazil by those captured slaves..thats how we get maculele and angola those are ritual dances thats why old capoeira sages pour or say libation before the start of a roda.....i am not a contra mestre and i know of this cause i am an african. living in the caribbean...tsk tsk tsk

  • @FCKEVRY1 I remember, I remember well the beating he took when whites tried to storm the Kilombo Zumbi dos Palmares

  • African slaves created Capoeira in Brazil. It comes from african rituals, war strategies and religious believes. But it was all new once crearted as Capoeira. It wa snothing like the african stuff.

And all martial arts deserv respect, if once can not give this respect, he knows nothing and his ignorances is enough as to ignore his comment.

    Capoeira rules.

  • lol hmmm i sense tension here XD Capoeira was originated in africa and during the slave trade finished in brazil to use against the slave masters :D lol Afro Brazillians. CAPOEIRA RULES

  • i like capoeira.

  • what the hell. brazilians didnt steal anything. and no martial art is better than another. they are as diverse as the language speaking them. which is the great thing about martial arts.

  • omg, oakland just got cooler. I can't believe i found this two years after it was posted.

  • its like matrix

  • Ok its cool looking and a healthy lifestyle but lets call it what it is. It's a dance. I fought a few of these guys and they were terrible. I had to really hold back but if you caught a slave owner by suprise with one of those heel kicks you could knock him out. Or mabey wait til hes drunk. Slavery is illegal now though so have fun dancing if thats your thing.

  • fully combat capable capoeiristas had knives on their feet. try fighting one then...even a novice would be too much for someone who doesnt play capoiera

  • soo cool

  • brasill!!!!

  • And to think I used to do capoiera long time ago :(

  • This proves we braSilians RoCk !!! XD

  • Actually it was invented by Africans.

  • No it aint! We got the IDEA from Africans, we INVENTED

    Capoeira

  • Wrong. The movements were actually utilized against slave owners in Brazil BY Africans. True Brazilians helped with development by the art was invented by African slaves. Even the video confirms this FACT.

  • Ever heard of Brazilians that were Decedents from Africans? Yeah uh, I count as one of them. So i don't care watcha say

  • Whatever dummy. Even the instructor in the VIDEO verifies that Capoeira is African in origin.

  • Ya bad at talk'n Shit cuz U don't seem the kind 2 fight back, you don't even know how to read a mother fucken comment if it hit ya up side da head. Watever dude I'm out! ---Young Blood

  • Oh and it don't matter who invented wat cuz yall know Brazil rules (example...Soccer, we didn't invent it but we rule it). I'm a proud Latina Brazilian who loves to show her colors--- So if ya start a fight get ready to lose. Sike! I'm just mess'n wit ya

  • who is "WE" you got a turd in your pocket. CAPOEIRA itself is Brazillian. but that is just the NAME The dance and the moves were all AFRICAN and the slaves who made it what it is were AFRICAN. on top of that. original capoeiristas who fought had knives and daggers on their feet. look it up

  • Dude I don't care, It looks like to me that NOONE here can take a joke or shit. I'm JUST PLAY'n! DAMn let da shit go, i ain't look'n 4 no pointless fight. Besides when i say WE i mean the Africans/Brazilians O.K? Yeah peace!

  • This is a great for of fitness and self defence.

  • I LOVE BRAZIL!!! VIVA BRAZIL!!!

  • thats really good i like it.

  • you mean BJJ?

  • any true martial artist would never say that. there are strenghts and weaknesses to all martial arts, so criticizing one is foolish.

  • it's survive as on fun four hundred years genius. obviously they did something right. and a real martial artist unlike yourself would know that the great part about martial arts is that they are as diverse as language.

  • i meant its survived as a martial art for four hundred years. typo.

  • A true martial artist does not take a martial art to be a Better fighter. And you have a lot to learn Child

  • I love it! its a moving art and an unique ability to express our self through music
