  • i remember these good ole days, who agrees?

  • the song sounds so much better with the my new cochlear implants. i love it!

  • demasiado buena desde venezuela!!!!

  • THIS is a killer video !! love the non-radio sound to it !!!

  • @1RealityBroadcasting i'm sorry you didn't make this information very obvious in your comment, but you said that it's all 'nigger rappers with voice decoders talking about their jimmys and how much drugs they,' which is certainly not the case. there is plenty of good music nowadays. i understand that there isn't anything like the cars unfortunately anymore, but it isn't fair to imply that all of the music these days is bad. i will, however, agree to the fact there are a bunch of shitty rappers.

  • @1RealityBroadcasting wow you obviously don't listen to much music.

  • What, no guitar solo?!?!:(

  • Has a Band like "The Cars" hit gold with so many Hits as they have? wow they have like 25

  • The riff used in this song at 00:43 is taken from the Beatles song I Will. This is not just my opinion this is a fact.

  • @meglaw69 Good ear! I don't think they were trying to rip it off though, It just sounds good.

  • @ProModChev518 OK , I watched the I Will video. You are 100 % right. My bad.

  • @ProModChev518 No.However I remember in an interview that Rick Ocasek said he did use it intentionally but I would not call it a rip off so much as an homage.

  • @meglaw69: Yes, and Come Together was largely taken from the Chuck Berry song You Can't Catch Me.

This is not my opinion. This is a fact.

  • This came out in 1978 but I believe it was the unofficial begining of the 80's. Anyone else agree?

  • A band way ahead of its time. Really, the CARS were a very under-rated band -they were a ground-breaking band for the new wave sound - very original and fresh - their debut album was amazing. I was so impressed when I first heard their material in 1978, when their debut album came out. (Boston's debut album was amazing too).

  • @AsianChaser69 2 Amazing Boston-based bands. I love my state. But yeah both of their debut albums are incredible. just great songs all the way through both.

  • I have this on a 7inch picture disk. Bought it when it was released.

  • New Wave :) Love it

  • In all seriousness, how many people here knew about this song before it became the theme of the movie with the same name?

  • Now this is music! Not the typical lame stuff out today. RIP Benjamin Orr <3

  • And people wonder why I always have happy knees.

It's because the soundtrack of my youth is always playing in my head.

And this song is always there in the background somewhere.

  • 666 like ? It's a sign ?

  • @ponygame59 The number is now 661, not 666.

As stupid as all of the so-called Devil stuff is, now they have a new number to be fearful of, lol.

  • wow, surely I was born on the worg time XD

    I so love the 70's

  • Can't sit still to this ~ gotta dance!

  • i luv this song. it reminds me of my man.

  • the guy 3 posts below meant the guy from the killers sounds like ben orr lol

  • 1:02 "you bite your lip"

At the moment I really was lol

  • Thumbs up if you think the singer sounds like Brandon Flowers from

    The Killers

  • @bob19068 Or maybe Julian Casablancas.

  • the cars are great..but wont be the same without benjamin orr

  • swEEeeet....

  • why does elliot always remind me of nigel tufnel? lol btw fucking well under rated guitarist. i used to bang on and on about this guy in the early 80s to my fellow guitar playing peers in england and they were going, who ??? seems i was right .

  • I'm 42 and this song is pretty good but Ben Orr was the better singer...

    Apparent moral: Have ugly friends

  • One of my all time favorite songs...this is truly garage music by the Cars. RIP Benjamin Orr..you are missed!

  • good song, hate how i relate to it though

  • @D451L3n70n3 how do you relate to it yeah i asked i am dick am i not

  • @supersonic666666

  • @supersonic666666

    yea pretty much.

  • I love this song!!! And thts coming from a 14 year old!!!!!!!! The Cars Rock!!!!....literally! Lol

  • @thebuenoslackers123

Why state your age? Everybody can like this music. I'm 14 too, but I just say it's a great song, listen to it very often, and all the normal stuff.

  • @thebuenoslackers123 hey your not the only 14 year old singing that tune i have been singing that tunes since age 12

  • i can totally relate to this song ;)

  • love their sound---love this song---has a good beat

  • I like how the keyboardist quotes Percy Faith's "Theme from a Summer Place" at the end.

  • fuck you haters!

  • This was a shortened version of 'My best friend's girl'. Too bad, because they sounded awesome in this version. Also, Elliot Easton's lead guitar solo (one of the best in all of music), was left out, unfortunately.

  • fags like my brother don't send western union

  • my dad was at this concert, lucky bastard.

  • @cashmerestaten yes, he indeed is a lucky bastard :)

  • I like bands that have more than one singer.

  • lol its so catchy

  • better butter somg girl song

  • the cars rock

  • This is brilliant, I grew up as a kid on this band I just wish I had the chance to see them live

  • Uhh... fritz5151, you should of tagged it as new wave for one, and two as poprock or rock or even rockabilly for its genre sound on the riff.

  • One of the few songs I like with Ric Ocasek on the vocals.

  • Rick looks like herman munster with a mullet

  • @blacksupersport that's a young Howard Stern in shades

  • the cars are pretty epic

  • I love the song and the cars... but I have to admit this version sucks

  • @progrocker1977 really? It sounds pretty close to the studio one

  • I love the Cars!

  • Elliot Easton, great guitar player with surf-music influence!!! Here displaying nice "surf riffs"

along with Ben Orr, gifted musician, the charm of Ocasek and of course, David Robinson, great drums!

  • Looks like this was recorded at the nightclub called the "Channel" in Boston...

Man that place was Great !!!

  • Jess... sorry buddy... but i totally dug here more than you did.... still love ya homeboy

  • niice

  • the backup vocals suck

  • The Cars are the best

  • i like to see the original video than live version please_n_thanks.

  • Anyone else finding that they just can't keep their eyes off of BENJAMIN?

  • @everybodylovesbowie Because he's DEAD! PEACE.

  • Saw them with Kansas and Thin Lizzy in 1978 at the Cow Palace Oh! My!

  • Clearly a live performance, not lip synced, with a unique guitar solo.

  • The backing vocals (harmonies) sounded "off" compared to the studio recording. Still a great song from a very great band. One of my all time favorites. 5 Stars!

  • I wonder who told them they could only do this short version?

  • that guitarist is a good picker.

  • excellent band, great song, genuis song writers, bought all their albums ( well now they are cds! LMAO i am old, i use to buy 45's !!! )

  • i totally didnt know that they started out in the 70's

  • They were considered "alternative" back then too! he he doesnt that seem funny.

  • @summarbummar me either!

  • @summarbummar you can tell by how people dance. in the 70's chicks looked like men and men looked like chicks.

  • I just LOVE this band! Wish they were still together making great music...2 members have since passed, I think...RIP

  • @Terrapin7171 Check out "The New Cars" its the same bank without Ric

  • Thankyou Vaijedi...

  • just the bass player. Benjamin Orr

  • @TheTunerClub just curious, what's the cause of death of Benjamin Orr?

  • i believe it was colon cancer

  • djstogey: He passed away due to pancreatic cancer.

  • ok, looked into it, it was pancreatic cancer. 53 yrs old. Rick Ocasek wrote "silver", a tribute to Ben Orr (Orzechowski) on his 2005 solo album. Huge loss, i grew up with this band. R.I.P. Ben

  • @djstogey thanks, sorry for my ignorance I came from the far east, I first heard CARS way back 1979 I thought they were british w/ their kind of music until u-tube came & learned they were from Massachusets. this band should be in the Hall of Fame. luv their sound.

  • @djstogey Yes...pancreatic... sad to concur

  • good song... weren't too many after '76 or so

  • i was never crazy about this song lyrically, but musically....YES!

  • * their......sorry for my bad grammar

  • from what I have surmised (forgive me if I am wrong as this music was way b4 my time) this is one of the bands that evicted disco from the pop scene ...they pushed pop music way beyond what disco bands were capable of ...I am thankful that the cars took music to a different path.

  • blondie got stuck in that disco sound and that really hurt there popularity ...they always had that same disco bass line for most of there songs

devo also helped put the nail in the coffin for the disco scene too I think

its very interesting to see how new styles of music eclipse and ultimately wipe a whole genre of music under the rug destroying careers and leaving once prosperous musicians destitute

  • I love this song. And I love all the band members. (: But when I listen to it, it makes me want to cry. Haha, Wonderful song. <333

  • I still hear ya!! Please rock Tornto !!

  • I love it, this version sounds like the Beatles a bit, especially the backing vocals. Excellent.

  • buddy holly

  • Written by Ric Ocasek

    Performed by The Cars

  • GREAT!

  • I like how Ben changed the bass line on this version.

  • diz not de carz diz jimmy hendriks

  • Elliot always looked stoned out

  • He usually wore shades, so how would you tell? Anyway, the guy was a scholar who looked like a hippie, and he never hit a wrong note. Probably not stoned.

  • so many songs using the same guitr thing ,but good song :)

  • love it

  • great song a lot of fun

  • how do you know they're high?

  • They are really high here but they still sound pretty damn good. :-)

  • LOVE THIS SONG! they are SO high right here

  • Hell ya all coked up..haha gotta love the 70's

  • the 60s were even worse lol

  • CARS ARE AWESOME!!!!!

  • Was that really a cover? I mean, music is music, but there's no way something they did could match something The Cars have done.

  • That is the Cars asshat

  • wut you talkin' 'bout willis?

  • what the hell 'fedup'? im "fed up" with you! lol this song is neat

  • Dude, get to therapy

  • If you need to be obnoxious kindly don't do it here. This is the cars & they did a lot of great stuff. Listen & comment on them or go away. Long live the cars !

  • right on klintos2 the cars fucking rock.

  • What the hell is going on over here? How did a Cars song generate a hate-fest? Human beings suck.

  • haha internet haters haha

  • When did a girlfriend become property? I love this song but you idiots really sound fucking stupid!

  • Yeah, Okay... show me the girl that doesn't want to let it be known she's "taken" by her boyfriend.

  • spot the insecureman whofeels the need to confirm in his own mind that his dick is ok but connecting this greatsong to his pencil dickthat he hopes willgrow if he tells the world its big. John Holmes REFUSED to talk about his dick to people. Deal with that reality pencil!

  • Love the Cars, love Benjamin Orr!!!!

  • How is that conceited?!

I'm pretty sure the person is saying they love their best friends partner.

    How is it conceited?

  • Yes I respond to PEOPLE like YOU.. As for the laid, well if that is the best you can come up with, then good luck to you. Not that has ever been a problem for me. Thanks for the stimulating reply.. ;)

  • Nah because ppl like you like using Youtube to make cheap shots at others, but thanks for your reply anyway ;)

  • Blimey. That is sad

  • Why? Because it is true?

  • this song reminds me of me

  • FUUUUUUNNNNNNNNN. Hello dobbins!!!

  • im seeing the best friend of my ex and it seriously fucks everything up.

  • Lauraslook ..

You are right about one thing ..no live talent since Ben died

And you can do better yourself with the vocals yourself , I'm sure

  • well for a studio band im sure theyre richer, entertained more people and lived much more fulfilling lives than anyone posting in here :p

    wanna make a studio band?
