  • OH MY GOD

  • Fievel goes west!!!!

  • o my god!!! im playing this right now and im in college. just a little rythm problems and intonation problems in the higher range. but really good. keep it up kid. and all of you haters complaining stop. you couldnt play this when you were nine. and prob. still cant.

  • HARDCORE o.o

  • Hmm little on the slow side...

  • You wanna bash this kid? Go to hell. I'm a professional violinist and yes, there are mistakes, but that was professional quality. When he obliterated that solo, I had a chill. I know people who I play with all the time who aren't that good. Major props for the memorization!

  • @TheSweetAndSourTeam

Yeah, Chinese guys like Isaac Stern or Charlie Daniels...

  • @TheSweetAndSourTeam nope. well, I dunno about japanese, but a lot of chinese musicians (not all) lack emotion when they play. (I'm Chinese, I should know)

  • no, technically he is obviously not there yet, but nevertheless he truly deserves a round of standing ovation for the astounding maturity and musicality he has shown (i think)...

  • this is amazing

  • I've seen the score and it's it REALLY hard. He's amazing to be able to play it all from memory.

  • this piece is from the 20thcentury contemporary, it is not classical. HE IS AMAZING!!!

  • CALM DOWN PEOPLES.

LET'S JUST SAY MOST 9 YEAR-OLDS CAN'T DO THAT. END OF STORY.

  • @Hitsuguya575 hey i know right. If you have somone on here hating the little kid, just ignore them is what i say.

  • i personally believe this child is good. but he is still young. its not really fair to judge his technique or emotional output when he's only nine. he plays well for his age and he will get better and better as his musicality matures

  • I could do this if I really wanted to! ;-D

    Just kidding!

This is truly inspiring. Thanks so much for posting this. Such a wonderful piece of music and you both play it so very well.

More children should learn to play string instruments.

My daughter and I just might try this some day.

  • ummm he's nine, of course his intonation isn't going to be perfect...

  • I started Violin at 11, and now I'm 14 and I just got this song today (Second Violin). Dang. Gonna take me a while to learn this.

  • Hi, I'm intonation, have we met?

  • im playing this right now....and he makes me feel like i suck cuz hes only 9:P

  • His violin is out of tune...

  • @JammersM23 leave this kid alone he has some serious talent i doubt u can play a song like this perfectly in tune espically at the tempo he took it

  • You know what - at least he isn't all ADHD jacked up on sugar and obviously WORKED to get this piece together. And he even makes a half decent attempt at some soul, but that might take another lifetime.

  • not as powerful when out of tune and alone. an orchestra is an amazing sound tht just cant be beat

  • he distracted the airline security during 9/11

  • hes kinda out of tune in some places

  • @iristang80 I totally agree with you on that...

  • im hungry now

  • he plays very good

  • I DON'T THINK HE'S VERY GOOD

  • sorry but he was really off key in alot of places. kudos for the attempt and keep up the practicing.

  • @phineas117

I second that emotion! But I keep wondering why I had a hankering for a fat juicy steak after listening to this clip....

  • its whats for dinner

  • MICREN LAIPRANGGGG YOU PRAY YOUR VIARINE! YOU PRAY TILL YOUR HANDS BREED! GAH DAMNIT. WE ARE LAIPRANGGGGS NOT RANGSTONS.

micren paipang. you play your violin. you play till your hands bleed. god damnit. we are laipangs. not langstons.

lol sorry. i aint even hating.

  • So many haters on youtube. Can't you just give a 9-year old a thumbs up for doing a great job on a hard piece? You are great Miclen!

  • Wow....can't believe all the negativity on this. This kid NAILED IT and he's awesome! Of course this piece sounds better with a full orchestra--that's how it was WRITTEN! But this 9 year old does an amazing job with his piece.

  • im really not impressed. so he started playing when he 6, big deal. I agree with

detevtive66, it does not mean hes a genoius. i play clarinet in a band. what we did, was play let it rock by chris brown, for the band! dont you think thats a bit more creative?

  • Yeah hes alright but I'd personally rather listen to a professional recording of this than be amazed by a 9 year old kid playing it all right. Just my opinion.

  • damn hes playing the entire orchestra

  • damn

  • he rushes so much on the pizzicato but still really good

  • @detevtive66 I wish I could beat you up right now.

  • @themarxmarvelous Why? Because I have a point and you don't?

  • @themarxmarvelous haha same goes for my x2 :)

  • @detevtive66 How could you say that Classical music is the least creative music you could possibly play? No Soloing? No need to understand music? It's just playing black marks? Thats the most absurd thing I've ever heard.

Why don't you try and play Mozart, just following the black marks and not understanding the music. You'll fail miserably. And I would like to be there to see that happen.

  • @mlaipang Classical music is the least creative music for the musician. There is no need for the player to understand what the music is about. All they have to do is read the black marks and play them back. The musician does not impose their creativity onto the piece.

  • @detevtive66 Classical period ended roughly 150 years before this piece was composed.

  • Come on. You're taking from a Berklee professor? Then you should know what you're talking about. Why don't you back up what you're saying? I would be delighted to see your reply. Then if its legit enough, I'll take it to heart.

And I take lessons from a USC professor, Alice Schoenfeld.

  • Comment removed

  • @detevtive66 are you kidding? you say you are studying music from a famous musician and you have the nerve to post this outrageously stupid and deliberately ignorant comments! do us a favor and stop cluttering up the internet with your extremely fake and superficial "input"! you make no sense

  • @mlaipang As for the kid in the video, he's still not a genius. Like I said before, just because he can recite music doesn't make him a genius. Geniuses are people who create, people who are original. If this kid could solo over Donna Lee with great agility at his age, I would definitely call him a genius. Most jazz musicians wouldn't even be able to do that. I'm not saying that this kid isn't talented. He's completely talented. I wish I was this good at nine. He's just not a genius.

  • He prolly gets his ass whooped daily.

  • ICE Agents should check the immigration status of these people.

  • The kid is amazing no doubt about it... but props to the pianist too.

  • asians are laughable when it comes to brute strength and speed, but asians excel at technical things

  • Comment removed

  • wow dude great performance. You rock

  • bit . ly/jerku

  • he's moving so fast it looks like its on fast forward!

  • we just need to get him outa the suit and into some boot jeans and tee shirt

  • someone's flashy, lol. but great job! my highschool's playing this in france in a week, great piece!

  • Well.... you gotta like have that song in your head and feel it all the way through... I've just played this song... and it's harder than you think for the violas xD LOL. It was actually fun :] lots and lots of practice. Hehe. :) It was an epic song though

  • lol awesome video.

  • Great job! At 9,most all kids now days want to do is "play" is to play video games. They want nothing they have to stick with to become good! This young man is GREAT! Great song also!

  • The pianist seems to want to drag the poor kid, especially at the beginning. Mr. LaiPang's rushing becomes rampant until about the :45 mark. Mr. LaiPang stops rushing once he gets to the correct tempo, which he apparently wanted to play at from the start. Silly accompanist! Just my little jibe, from a fellow violinist ; ) This is truly incredible.

  • @hkobb7 A good pianist is to follow the soloist

  • Amaaaazing. I like the way he bobs his head, er whatever it's called.. how he moves it back and forth really fast really often.. xD

  • thats fantastic.

ofcourse he rushes a bit, and is out of tune in some places. but holy shit he is great for 9!

  • I could play this and I'm not Asian, just Autistic.

  • I believe this kid has major talent, good luck to you in the future!

  • i play call of duty and i play the violin ohhhhhh take that moderate21

  • Don't hate on the Chinese. What could you do at age 9? Excellent musicality. Sometimes you miss notes, big deal. His technique will improve with time. You can teach technique but not musicality.

  • No it's not all the asian kids it's all the immigrants. It's because the Americans have no reason to work hard because they have already gotten to this "wonderful" country of freedom. Look at me I have 98 math average and I am a 98% Romanian blood and 2% Japanese blood.

  • He was good be really sharp at times.

  • Excellent playing, control, and style of the piece. Sometimes your intonation was off, but still, it was performed amazingly for a kid your age. Good job miclen!

  • don't have ANY knowledge on violin technique, so this is just a critique of the sound. anyway, I thought he was a bit too aggressive and the sound sounded screechey sometimes. Is that how you're meant to play it?

I like the enthusiasm but I'd rather listen to a slightly slower cleaner version.

Still, he's amazing regardless of his age.

  • I think that's the style of the song. I mean it is a fiddle piece, and songs like that are meant to be fast.

  • @supersoccerstar001 yeah, I get that, but I guess I'd just prefer.

    still, only my opinion.

  • where do you get the music from??

  • there was a whole lot of mess in this performance BUT he attacked and nobody can hate on that.

  • actually i think his technical skill isn't very impressive. I think i could play like that when i was 9 too, now i'm. Its his passion for music that's to be applauded; few people can play with that kind of passion at such a young age. Some out of tune notes aside, generally quite well done, though it can be improved on.

  • @qw3rtyph, he is a child of 9 ...Try a little ENCOURAGEMENT

  • @AnyPortInTheStorm Whoa okay its been a year since i last saw this video! O.o haha i guess i was just critical. Most players i see lack such passion though they have all the technical skill. Thats what i was applauding him for. Now he should have come a long way! 12 years old now i think. Can't wait to see how he's doing now (:

  • :OOOO

  • holy shit

  • OMG I'm speechless !!!

  • @303username I agree, it's actually not a hard piece to play. I played it when I was in grade 2 violin. It's just the speed that's impressive. He's a really good violinist though!

  • ohmygod!

im playing this in a professional orchestra, im sixteen,

and not even close to this good.

    HOLY COW. im jealouss.

  • imagine him at age 18 ..... epicness xD

  • : O WOOOAH

  • good job! your intonation isn't perfect, but overall it was great! :)

  • His technique is great for 9 years old. Intonation (other than some spots) is nearly perfect. However, you may want to work on where you get higher up, like when you play in 4th position on the G-String, or where it gets really high on the E-String. But overall, great.

  • its really not that hard of a piece, but thats pretty impressive if he's actually 9.

  • oh man im 14 and im just starting to play violin i have so much respect for this kid i would let him bag my girl........... well actually i wouldnt but you get the jist of what im sayin lol

  • pretty good...at 9 I didn't know what a violin was lol...

  • oof, when he gets to the g string 5th-ish position parts, he completely fails. but holy crap, the rest is epic! i remember playing this when i was his age, but i was nowhere near as good...

  • His technique is amazing. Technically, he's an amazing violinist. If I had to offer any feedback, I'd say think about what the song means. Copland wrote this to paint the glories of the American West. Copland was an American nationalist, and as far as I know, never really went outside of NY City in the US. So, it's not just the American west, but the myth and legend of the American West. Feel the legend. The way he's playing it, I can't feel it.

  • haha yes this song does basically describe the west lol

  • sorry, but you are pretty bad at voicing your opinions

  • Actually, I am known for being good at expressing my opinions. You just assume a different tone of feedback when you're talking to nine-year-olds.

  • Ghillies4life seems pretty well-spoken to me, perhaps you just disagree with what his opinion is; in which case ChieftainFish sounds like you're pretty bad at voicing your own opinion.

    Oh. The irony.

  • @db0255 I'm actually a she, but don't sweat it. :-)

  • I won't, nobody's perfect.

  • Always the asian kids.

  • thank you i feel like i started 2 late and i started n 3rd grade

  • @gr1m4ce why are you saying that, I'm 13, I've been playing violin and viola since age of 5, and i could play that at 7, and I'm not Asian!!!!

  • @gr1m4ce Asian kids even take on that comment themselves. :-) It's pretty true, but could be stereotypical if you just found one of them who aren't like that.

  • @gr1m4ce LOL!

  • woah. even if hes off a little bit.

    HOLY MOTHER OF PEARL

    thats pretty impressive speed

  • i'm doing hoe down for a talent show tonight, i'm vln2, and we dropped the speed by half

  • Pretty good up until @1:00. Little boy got those high notes all wrong! But I'm not hating..I didn't learn to play hoedown on my viola until I turned 15

  • same as me.

    cept im 2nd violin.

  • it's called practice, that's how all these kids get good, they don't sit on their ass on Call of Duty all day

  • i know its too bad that game completley engulfs my life.

  • @Moderate21 Well, those kids get very good at Call of Duty.

Or are you implying that video games are not an important and valuable skillset?

    *folds arms*

  • @Moderate21 Ha ha ha I do both :)

  • @Moderate21 but which one will get you further in life? Pwning noobs or playing the violen?

  • @Moure81

    Violin.

  • @Moure81 thats the dumbest question I ever heard

  • @Moure81

    I love you man. :)

  • @Moderate21 Haha! So right about. People always say they could never do something but that's because they never even try anyway.

  • holy cow! hits the super high parts pretty well!! i couldn't do that well.

  • how the hell did this little shit win he plays so off tune

  • lol yeh he's off tune a lot :/

  • He's nine. Our 14 year old orchestra is playing this. And we're considered to be a very good orchestra.

  • well, at least it'll be easy to improve.

  • Wowzers! He is good! I'm in 7th grade! I can't play it that well! I've only been playing 4 2 years tho. He's a little out tho... But still... Awesome performance!

  • his pitch and rhythm were pretty off at some parts, but its still good that this little kid could get the basics of this piece.

  • dude!

    this little boy is amazing!

cudoz to mom and dad. lol.

  • WOW!!!!!!!!!! that kid was WAYYYYY out of tune on some notes. his tempo was so wacked out, slow fast,slow,fast... he plays okkk not the greatest for a 9 yr old kid. This song totally sounds horrid as solo,YOU NEED THE ORCHESTRA WITH IT(BAND TOO).

  • well...... this little kid just kicked my ass

  • NO NO NO! This piece was never intended to be performed as a solo! Without the whole orchestra it's no good.

The kid is very good, but as a solo it should be performed as William Stepp's version of Boneparte's retreat.

I would much rather see this kid (who is clearly a classical musician) performing Bach, or Mozart. To play fiddle takes a sense that most classical musicians just don't have.

  • It was ok, but nothing special, obviously you have to take his age into age.

  • WTF WAS HE DOING WRONG???? I've played viola for 8 yrs (yeah i kno violin) and he did amazing for his age... :)

  • Lamaboy, grow up!! The kid's 9 yrs old, for crying out loud!! That means he's probably only been playing for...what...2 years? Maybe? I mean, come on....what do you expect the kid to do, play like freaking Itzhak Perlman? Perlman was 13 when he made his debut! The young man did a wonderful job! Bravo!

  • How about learn to read a full post before you decide to pass judgment on the post.

I clearly said he does very well for his age.

Consider who needs to grow up based on who reads posts.

  • Right....you just keep sitting on your moral precipice. first you slam the kid then give him a backhanded compliment. You cannot have it both ways. Either he did well for his age and experience or he isn't very good at all. Which one is it? You said both.....but the slam was much tougher than the compliment. GROW UP!

  • That's a racist response, you should be ashamed of yourself for fostering such stereotypes....even if you think of it as a compliment. The inanity of your reply screams that you are in jr. high, possibly high school at best. Stop trying to be an internet thug.....

  • I'm not racist just because I said that. I can call Chinese because that's what people call them, its not racist you dummy. 2nd I was just trying to tell you he's not that great.

  • Believe it or not, I am a profession Sociologist. I did not say you are a racist. I said that IS a racist comment, and it is. You played directly into a racial stereotype....and that IS a racially inspired comment. Now....if you want to slam the kid, then post your own video of you playing it better.....then, and only then, will you have some defense for your coment.

  • ive played violin for 13 years. what did he do wrong? name the spots... seriously.

  • 8 year of playing... thats almost as old as this kid is and he pwns me

    ... *sigh*

  • This is on my Music coarse this year.

    Its my third set work,

Its good but not as good as the Peer Gynt Suite.

    xox

  • wow that was great.

  • He's very very good!!! BRILLIANT!!

but at 1:12 - 1:19 his tuning is terrible....

  • Awesome

  • WOOOOOOHOOOOOO !! GOO!

  • He left his mute on for a solo performance?

  • It's not on the bridge though, so it isn't muting anything, and holy cow, this little guy is good. he should play the viola though... :P

  • Agreed. Violas Rock!!

  • Who said I don't play viola?

  • @nixrox13 violas eat shit.

  • @nixrox13 I SECOND THAT!

  • I played this freshman year in orchestra and I could never get this fast.

  • hey miclen! its alicia!

  • damn! hes good

  • Don't worry, he'll grow in that suit.

  • This tune is special to me. I have done a dance on it. Excellent play kid!!!

  • Those crazy Asians!

  • wow he's good. i'm gonna play that in an orchestra....i'm older than him and i cant even go that fast..(yet) i'm still practicing. i hope i can play as good as him!

  • lol was soll daran so toll sein?

tut mir nur leid dass der junge in dem Alter schon sowas schrubben muss -

    da gibts weitaus lehrreichere Lektüre

  • wow ur amazing

  • awsome kid! he willl be expectiog many good things in the future

  • O_O

    OMFG

  • AMAZING

  • its easy when you are taught by every fingering now if he could read music and sight read that would be amazing

  • hes better then u think he is

  • This was CRAZY good!

  • some of his counting is off...

  • very good for his age, but he doesn't hit all of the high notes right.... And the fast notes in position are sometimes incorrect. But whatever! I wouldn't have been able to do it at his age!

  • He needs more practise with that song but he's really good for his age

  • really good but i prefer the whole the orchestra

  • Sexy.

  • wow

  • my freakin god! he's freakn good!

  • Good for him!

And those who are criticizing him-He is nine, shut your ass up

    He is doing FANTASTIC

  • i know im going to soo many thumbs down but here it goes =[

the begining bars were extrememly slow and then sped up fast

    the pizz was really harsh

everything was accented rather than accenting the notes that needed it

some sections were very out of tune sun as the "bumb trip-a-let bumb" sections and the sixtenth runs

but he plays veryyyy pasionatly and hell be a great violinst
