@Therealnoel I just saw AWVFTS live erlier this evening, morning, whatever you want to call it. Absolutly beautiful performance. Thanks for the recommendations! I would like to recommend the group Celer. Check out The Carved God is Gone by them. Really good, lots of other good stuff as well. Sorry if that's not too cohearent, I've been up for a while.
@april76301 Acording to Kranky's (their label) site , it was March 10 of 97. And if you ask me, even though this album has it's darker moments, this music really fits with warmer weather for some reason. I like how it dropped during that transition from winter to spring.
also for kevvymac, you should seriously check out (if you haven't already) A Winged Victory for the Sullen. It's a colaboration between Adam Wiltzie of SOTL and composer Dustin O'haleran. Their S/T album comes out on september 12th! The first single from the album is called "Steep Hills of Vicoden Tears". Think you'll love it.
@machinevsfascist 'A Winged Victory For The Sullen' is in my humble opinion one of the most beautiful records in this genre..whatever people want to call it: classical/ambient, post drone, kosmiche, psyche/drift..I care little for genres and a lot for the music..Its up there with the greats: Stars of the lid/Brian Eno/Deathprod
I have all the later SOTL albums but was unsure about buying the earlier stuff. I bought The Ballasted Orchestra after listening to your post here of Sun Drugs..... and love it! Thanks.
@kevvymac most of the side projects are less drone & more ambient, closest would probably be Aix Em Klemm. Also The Dead Texan album is worth checking, along with both of Brian Mcbrides solo albums.. a majority of them are already on youtube, so will definately give a good sample of what to expect
@blehrax Thanks for the leads - I checked out 2 McBride solo albums on iTunes last night (When the Detail Lost Its Freedom and Effective Disconnect) and they were excellent, two definite buys – looks like there might be a dent in my bank account by the time I get through all the side projects!
Beautiful.

how to get SOTL in high definition? does cd quality do it justice?

SOTL is the perfect hiking soundtrack...especially "Articulate Silences, Parts 1 & 2."
BTW, does Brian McBrides have some variation of Terret's Syndrome? Look at his song titles!

@blehrax I haven’t tried any of the side projects yet – where best to start, in other words, which sound most like SOTL?

@kevvymac
no probs at all..
and yeah, it's definitly not the healthiest for saving when trying to keep up, especially how much quality has been released on Kranky alone
