Thad McCotter opposed the bank bailout and rightly so. The money was a gift with no strings and no parameters for use. That grab bag passed despite his efforts. That being the case, if healthy banks were given the pie in the sky, why shouldn't the auto companies get a slice in the form of a LOAN with strings. It makes perfect sense and not just for Detroit. There should never have been any bank bailout. Credit has not been unfrozen, banks execs got bonuses and grand parties.

I understand and actually agree. Much of this speach ignores the real reason for this mess. The banks were being forced to push through loans that they knew were bad but were forced by law to accept for affirmative action housing reasons. So they made the most of the enforced situation. That not being addressed b/c its election year but we all know the reasons for and antics of the GSE propped secondary market.
