Guys, you have to give McCotter a break. He is from MICHIGAN. He is going to be kicked out of office if he isn't for the bailout. I'm sure that he is against the idea of the bailout but his constituents want him to vote for it. And as their elected representative he is simply carrying out his responsibility. I'm not trying to justify his position by any means, but you have to understand where he is coming from.
This was the right thing to do. The banks should never have been given the pie in the sky no strings. The auto industry deserves a slice, albeit with terms. It is idiotic to think this country could survive without them.
Thad McCotter opposed the bank bailout and rightly so. The money was a gift with no strings and no parameters for use. That grab bag passed despite his efforts. That being the case, if healthy banks were given the pie in the sky, why shouldn't the auto companies get a slice in the form of a LOAN with strings. It makes perfect sense and not just for Detroit. There should never have been any bank bailout. Credit has not been unfrozen, banks execs got bonuses and grand parties.
McCotter nails it. We have swapped our freedom for the next meal's bread.
Not so bad for me, as I'm nearing retirement age. But my heart goes out to younger generations and their children. Future generations will not be as free, and never see America as we know it.
Absolutely. That man has my vote. He isn't like the rest of those blithering spineless weasles in congress that are more concerned about winning the next election and lining their own pockets than with what's good for us, the tax payers.
OH MY HELL..The bail out is ORCHESTRATED for the future coming bankruptcy of the USA. Upon the annoucement of the bankruptcy, gov. workers will be told they have no job anymore. However if they sign the new Uinted Nations document and except employment by the UN, they can keep their jobs while being paid by the UN. They are told it will be temporary. You will also be given a chance to turn in your money for the new Amero dollars. And that's the end of the USA! Thanks to the federal Res. & Obama
The House is once aqain going to deal with this monstrosity and, while I'm hoping that this is just pessimism on my part, it seems they'll pass it this time. McCotter's heroic words were too little too late. I hope to be proven wrong about that on Friday or whenever they actually vote on it...but I'm tempted to think that we haven't seen 'bad' yet, but 'bad' is coming. The statists are closing in on this thing like flies on a turd and they are quite the sucking, grasping, clawing, swarm.
Yay!! I second SerenaSarah - thanks Mr McCotter! It is soooo heartening to find that real people with sensible constitutionally-sound opinions are in Congress. Please let's put this man up for higher office next time around!
Obama is a Socialist. With higher taxes, a bigger govt and redistributions he will bring socialism to the US and strip us of our freedoms. Socialism is a violation of human rights We have a right to what we earn. His ideas are backward looking, anti-progressive, and have long been discredited throughout history. Socialism has proven to lead to poverty, depreciation in the standard of living, rise of tyranical rule, and lack of innovation. Obama is saying nothing new, read a history book!!
God bless this man I want freedom and Bread to eat. Take the Bread back from the squanders of our Tax payer dollars. Clintons friends Barney Frank, Obama, Raines et all.....
wow... I am gaining a lot of respect for a number of republican politicians with this debate. Likewise, I have lost a lot of respect for a number of democrats during this debacle. I am an independent, but I tend to vote democratic because of the democrats' tendencies to try to protect the environment (read protect public health from corp. greed) as well as how terribly and obviously corrupt so many republicans are. The republicans who are voting 'No', however, are proving themselves.
"The choice you face is this: you will lose, potentially, your prosperity for a short period of time at the expense of your longterm liberty. Once the federal government has gotten you to take that risk and pass it on to you as a 'moral hazard' they will be in the marketplace. As the free market is diminished, your freedom itself is diminished." - Rep. McCotter
Rep. McCotter will forever have my respect and support. Eloquence, passion, and timeless principles on this issue delivered in a way all Americans can understand, and in under three minutes. Atta boy!
Do they really not understand? WE DON'T WANT TO BAIL YOU OUT BECAUSE YOU DON'T DESERVE IT!!
GET IT THROUGH YOUR HEADS:
WE DON'T LIKE YOU Let somebody else in, to us, their money is as good as yours, even better because we have a chance it will be better management. With the present owners, the chance it will be poor is 100% !!!!!
Thaddeus McCotter is the Cicero of our time. He alone is fighting to save our Republic from the money changers(bankers). I only wish my senators from Maine would listen to him. Please Collins and Snowe Vote No Tonight!
Lets get him and Ron Paul and any others together and have a big fuck off to George Bush and any other dems or repubs who are in the pockets of Wall St
BRAVO! When I heard Rep McCotter make this speech, it was powerful and had the ring of truth. It reminds me of Patrick Henry's famous speech - Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death.
It's always time to vote right not popular. I could not go to my bank and write a bad check and hope to collect from somebody else over a five (5) year period to make it good. That's what our government is trying to do. The government has an enormous deficit but it's talking about bailing someone out with money they do not have! They expect us to pay for this bill and we won't. Vote out anyone who doesn't have the common sense to do the right thing. Thanks McCotter!
Well he really did hit right on the nail. I'm really glad there was a large outcry from the public on this. These Representative really did feel the heat on this one and they listened.
Mankind in the bulk can never be "free," because man on the whole makes three great demands on life, and cannot endure unless these demands are satisfied. 1. He demands bread: and not merely as foodstuff, but as a miracle, given from the hand of God.2. He demands mystery, the sense of the miraculous in life.3. He demands somebody to bow down to, and somebody before whom all men shall bow down. These three demands, for miracle mystery and authority prevent men forever from being "free"...
They are man's "weakness." Only a very few men, the elect, are capable of abstaining from the absolute demand for bread, for miracle, mystery and authority. These are the strong and they must be as gods, to be able to be Christians fulfilling the Christ-demand. The rest, the millions and millions of men throughout time, they are as babes or children or geese, they are too weak, "impotent, vicious, worthless and rebellious" even to be able to share out the earthly bread, if it is left to them.
DO NOT PASS THIS BILL! Or anything resembling this Bill. It is Cowardice, Treason, and Appeasing Wall Street Pirates. If the US Congress passes this Bill, the appeasement and extortion will never end, ultimately destroying the US Dollar, leading to total Anarchy and Civil War with States demanding secession from the Union. This all could have been avoided a long time ago if Pelosi and the Democrats told Bush and the Republicans NO which the Democrats have not done, making them equally complicit.
The Fed already gave 700 billion to companies without congressional approval. Why are they voting on this 7 billion dollar bailout now? So they can say they were against bailouts? Seems like more posturing to me.
negative, get informed first, the fed opened up a lending window for large institutions to lend to eachother opening up liquity in the markets, this bailout is The US Gov buying up toxic debt ie bad debt. Along with there own deficit of tens of trillions of dollars.
There is no difference between creating more debt for taxpayers through taxes or through artificial credit. They both steal from the American people. The only difference is the inflation tax that results from "opening up liquidity" as you call it is not obvious to the less informed. They are bottoming out the dollar and at the same time making themselves look good by opposing THIS bailout.
That was all emotive bull and unless the American people and by implication most of the western banking system and the western populations dependent on them recognise that they are in danger of ending up in hock to China, the Russian billionaires and the oil rich Arabs who will own their houses, workplaces and land then they will be slaves in their own land for many years to come! Take on the debt Now! Punish your irresponsible bankers and do some soul searching of your own.
I know nothing else of Representative McCotter (yet), but that address was brilliant. I thank him for standing up against the threats of the pinstripe bandits and the politicians under their employ.
haha, McCotter speaks to his constituents and defends them, just as Pompous Ass Congressman (Lord) Gary Miller (CA) says, "If you just solely rely on the phone calls were getting from home, listening to people who dont understand the complexities of our marketplace and what were dealing with here, the easiest vote for you to make would be a no vote today. You have to go beyond that.
Why can't we have someone like this run for president? He has made this small speech, and in it he sounds light years more intelligent and patriotic then those 2 douchebags we have to vote for right now.If only all our leaders were like this, imagine what great shape this nation would be in.
We are lucky to have a guy like this representing the American people. Quoting the Bolshevik slogan was masterful as the same peoples that were behind the Bolsheviks are behind our current ills.
I wont be so quick to say McCotter for president but damn that was an excellent speech. Should be our leader's attitude republicans and democrats alike. "We The People" said no and dammit we mean "NO". I have at least a $500,000 portfolio and would risk losing it all than to give up my freedom. I don't want to be begging the government for anything especially to save me. Self-reliance is Freedom and Freedom is Hope for a better tomorrow.
I'm a Ron Paul conservative and I approve that speech!
Pragmatism is of the essence. Principles are all fine and dandy, and I, as an anarcho-capitalist (a libertarian) agree on principle, to totally revolutionize the system. But there is a time and a place for everything. And there's a price to pay and there are times and ways where it just isn't worth it, when there are innocents in the way. Think savings by wage-earners and their 401ks obliterated, young people unable to get a student loan. Put principles in context!
God bless this man. He speaks the truth. We need a real bill that will produce real results. Remember that on 9.29.08, Bernanke injected 630 billion dollars after the bailout bill FAILED. Remember that folks.
Great speech. However the greater mass of people will never choose a short period of pain over a perceived chance of experiencing zero pain. The bailout will go ahead and the United States will fight against short term pain until it is in a position where long term pain is unavoidable.
Get rid of LOBBYIST. That is the job of the American people. Make Washington listen to the people again. Get rid of the closed door back room politicking. Restore the Constitution.
While it wasn't terribly well delivered, I think this is one of the great patriotic speeches of our generation. I'm not a religious person, but God bless Rep. McCotter and other patriots like Ron Paul who are standing up to the monstronsity of big government incompetence and corruption
Thank you for standing up for the people, and against those who put us in this mess to begin with. Why should we trust the unethical likes of Barney Frank to manage this crisis, when it was he and his ilk that created the crisis. Barney Frank needs to resign. He is not only incompetent but unethical.
Call Nancy Pelosi @ (202) 225-0100 & let her know you want Congressional hearings investigating the mismanagement of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Tell her you want answers from Barney Frank and Chuck Schumer. Ask her why Franklin Raines and James Johnson were allowed to cook FM books enron style without being held accountable. Ask her why her democratic party refused reform of these entities in exchange for campaign donations.
He was my rep before I had to move a few years ago and I had the privelage to vote for him at that time. Go McCotter! Now I live within the city of Detroit, and truly understand the devastation that government intervention in the housing markets causes and the further destruction of government when it over taxes its people to make up for its mistakes. I love the city, but I am not blind to its mistakes. This history need not be repeated.
during chaos, with totally innocent people losing all their life's savings in their 401ks, massive company failures due to being unable to operate without short-term financing from money market funds, causing massive unemployment and economic collapse. To be of principle must be compatible with not causing the demise of innocent people. The time for revolution is during a stable and prosperous phase of the economic cycle! Pragmatism is Principle in Context!
very nice speech indeed. In principle, I totally agree. But my choice is 4 the bailout. It is a false dichotomy between short term prosperity and long term slavery. For one, we will not be prosper in the short term due to the bailout, second we are already under the same kind of slavery that the bailout supposedly creates. So it really makes no sense. What we can avoid is short-term utter CAOS with real, tangible and deadly consequences. And I suggest that the time for a revolution is not...
I understand and actually agree. Much of this speach ignores the real reason for this mess. The banks were being forced to push through loans that they knew were bad but were forced by law to accept for affirmative action housing reasons. So they made the most of the enforced situation. That not being addressed b/c its election year but we all know the reasons for and antics of the GSE propped secondary market.
I wish someone in congress would just call that out I dont care who is offended.
Thanks a lot for the supportive comment, I would very much appreciate it, if you would rate my 2 last videos on this subject, and possibly leaving this same, or another comment, just to make people see that there are more people, informed and free-market friendly, that support some sort of bailout bill.
the vote has taken place and was defeated. However the Dem leadership is vowing a second vote on Wednesday. so if you called your elected jackasses in DC you need to keep calling
Way to go, Congressman McCotter! You have proven to be a true patriot throughout this whole debate! Good job, sir, and---again----may God bless you for your leadership and courage for standing on your principles even when doing so was an unpopular act.
They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. ~Benjamin Franklin, Historical Review of Pennsylvania, 1759
I must say, THIS would be a man I would be absolutely PROUD to call the president of my country.
McCotter, you're going to be remembered, and if this bailout deal goes through, I know your words will become prophetic... but either way, you, sir, are a true leader
I am neither democrat nor republican, but simply an american
Great speech! McCotter has the character of a genuine leader, not a follower. He understands that what is at stake here is our democratic freedom: priceless.
I was screaming at the TV this morning during President Bush's excuse making speech. I can't believe that Republicans are voting against personal responsibility. Bless McCotter and Pence and those in the loyal opposition.
This is wonderful to witness today: A congressman who has paid attention to history, understands economics, won't compromise liberty or his integrity. This bailout is tragic, and Congressman McCotter's stand is no small moment--history will remember it. Your constituents should be proud. I hope the representatives in my state have the same foresight in their vote. Thank you.
I'm not a Republican, but I have to say that on this one they are right on it.
I'm ashamed of the Democrats bailing out Wall Street, having more than enough evidence that it won't work from top US econmist who wrote to Congress this bill has nothing that protects us, only WallSt and our economy will take longer to recover from this crisis if they pass it, plus the long term damage to our laws and constitution...

From a total different political point of view, I like McCotter speech. Hope to find more people like him in the Congress soon.

"I Killed The Bank"
are the words Andrew Jackson had engraved on his headstone. Twice the banks tried to have him killed and he kept on going.
Men like him and other Presidents who warned the American people to be weary of the military industrial complexe, they will not have died in vain.
America is awake.

Great speech. However the greater mass of people will never choose a short period of pain over a perceived chance of experiencing zero pain. The bailout will go ahead and the United States will fight against short term pain until it is in a position where long term pain is unavoidable.

While it wasn't terribly well delivered, I think this is one of the great patriotic speeches of our generation. I'm not a religious person, but God bless Rep. McCotter and other patriots like Ron Paul who are standing up to the monstronsity of big government incompetence and corruption
gergenheimer 3 years ago 2
Thank you for standing up for the people, and against those who put us in this mess to begin with. Why should we trust the unethical likes of Barney Frank to manage this crisis, when it was he and his ilk that created the crisis. Barney Frank needs to resign. He is not only incompetent but unethical.
karen32862 3 years ago
Call Nancy Pelosi @ (202) 225-0100 & let her know you want Congressional hearings investigating the mismanagement of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Tell her you want answers from Barney Frank and Chuck Schumer. Ask her why Franklin Raines and James Johnson were allowed to cook FM books enron style without being held accountable. Ask her why her democratic party refused reform of these entities in exchange for campaign donations.
karen32862 3 years ago

Pragmatism is Principle in Context!
dakshinamurti 3 years ago
very nice speech indeed. And I suggest that the time for a revolution is not...
dakshinamurti 3 years ago

Thank you.
