dunno why people class vic and bob as surreal. just two guys doing what they think is funny. like the 2 ronnies and eric and ernie. personally i think they piss all over anything a british comedian has done for the last 2 decades (except for the almighty blackadder, and the league of gentlemen gets an honourable mention.)
hi yall, this is V.I.B.E., we’re two 15 year olds who make mind confuzzling electronic hip hop music with melodic robotic inspiration from Linkin Park and lyrical spiritual inspiration from Eminem. If you are curious as to what we are talking about, check out our channel :D
Not to intellectualise Vic & Bob but plenty of the first surrealist and dadaist artists/filmmakers were practical jokers, taking the piss out of traditional art and also being silly and leftfield for fun. Sadly they were a bit too good and their 'anti-art' got accepted as genius - the famous 1917 Urinal being the earliest and most blatant act of going over the critics' head. Thought Id say, don't be pompous about 'getting it', its the opposite its ridiculous - particularly this set of sketches!!
I fell about first time I saw this and have just watched it for the second time now, it is just sooooo funny, strange but funny and sad at the same time.
Epic fail - Its nothing to do with art and being knowledgeable. Its just really surreal humour, which a majority of people find hilarious - I love watching this and having everyone else in the room sat like "WTF :|" straight-faced while im doubled over laughing .. thats why vic and bob have like a cult following of people with the same humour!
@curiousaboutthispuma well you don't need to know them to get the homour. the parodies are so obscure to most people and don't really work as something we know. I suppose not parodies but influences from people like bunuel and dali (watch a film of theirs!) and having it as something so obscure and out of nowhere makes it more likeable.
Vic is actually an artist and a comedian too. he puts on exhibitions and they are very similar to those strange drawings he does... that's surrealism...
vic and bob add little subtle references to art,surrealism,70s music and game shows etc you've really got to be knowledgable to spot them. I think these sketches are like surreal films or art pieces. the egg is a urreal metaphor for life or birth, dali usedit alot in imagery.
Thanks to this golden information, i've just managed to buy Larry Page Orchestra's instrumental of Zabadak (as found on the Up, up and away album) from amazon for the princely sum of 71p :) Now i can play this song in the car as i've ALWAYS wanted to. Arfarf, tally ho!
my brother keeps dolphins in his trasister radio still where im from u cant get the red fire engine out without rubbing edam cheese on the bonnets first !!
These sketches featuring the "frustrated" car door men were known as the Lunchtime Capers. The music is an instrumental of Zabadak by Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mitch & Titch. I don't know who this version is by. Anyone?
vic & bob can be puerile and lazy for far too much of the time, but when they're on, they're REALLY on. wonderful, wonderful stuff (best watched in conjunction with the other "car door blokes" sketches)
I Love it, This is what Vic and Bob do best!! I want them to bring out somethng new on the TV!! and it would be nice if they released shooting stars on DVD too!!
