yoGOES, Aprilia doesn't compete in MotoGP any more. The RSV4 races in World Superbike (and they did very well in the bike's debut season last year). I want one of these so bad!
RELIABILITY IS NOT AN ISSUE..had Aprilia's last 7 years..never missed a beat including 3 x trips into Euro land...been 2 France,spain,Italy,Swiss...only 1 to break down was an R1.....
People who don't want to ride a big fat barge to carry a passenger or an appliance-looking UJM. Besides what's the point of having one of the worlds hottest super bikes if you can't share the experience with your significant other from time to time?
Actually, the passenger seat is bigger and softer than a bicycle seat, and more comfortable than expected....great job to Aprilia for designing a race-only GP bike for the street....lucky for us!
I agree, good looking, good performance just great. BUT, i guarantee you it is the devil living with an Aprilia. I've got a 1098S now. It's in the shop now, because it's broken. I've had 3 R1's: Never a problem.... maybe this Aprilia will be the first Italian bike for me that won't break down.
Still in the shop. Some noise from the top cilinder. Like its farting. Changing the voltageregulator too (callback). as well as the startmotor and some other things (all callbacks). I love my Duc too, but for that price it has to keep working, regardless of all the emotion involved...
If it breaks down again after this repair job, I'm going straight to an Aprilia-dealer.
Unfortunately, I doubt that you (or I) can fit the new Aprilia. On another test on youtube, the tester said that he was 6'0 and he just fit. Plan on custom rearsets.
Also, have you sat on any other newer model Aprilias? Bro, they are comically small. Smaller than the new R6. The guys at the bike shop couldn't help but laugh as I sat on a Mille. And I'm only 6'3 with a 35in inseam.
If you're tall, stick to any gen R1. The RSV4 may be sexier, but the new "big bang" R1 is definitely faster.
Milles are known as "tall" bikes. They are quite a bit larger than jap 600/750/1000s, so I really don't know what you're talking about. The new RSV4 is supposedly 600 sized, but not the 1000cc v-twins.
Also I have to call 100% bs on your statement the new R1 is "definitely" faster. The reviews say the RSV4 is smaller and more agile than the R1. It comes with way better suspension. The peak hp is similar. Watch the masterbike competition this year. RSV4 will take the R1 to the woodshed.
On Akrapovic's own factory dyno, the new R1 has 162 wheel hp, and 166 with their full system, while the RSV4 has 165 wheel hp, and 169 with the full system.
Milles may be "tall", but the footpegs are also very tall as well. All I know is that the footpeg to seat position is completely wrong for tall men with long legs. It's really sad, because I really wanted a second gen Millet.
Now if I took the chance and spend $4-500 on custom rearsets/footpegs, It might have solved the problem, but there was a third gen R1 20 ft away. The "laughing" salesmen said that I would fit better on that. Aprilia really should release factory "low" rearsets.
Well no offense, but if some lower rear sets kept you from buying a Mille, I doubt you were that serious of a buyer. You need to put a couple thousands into the suspension of an R1 to get it to handle on a track like an Aprilia. Well aside from the LE edition R1 which cost 18k. It used the same grade of suspension that comes standard on the decked out Mille.
A Japanese bike will have 1 thing this bike and other Italian bikes will never have, reliability. The Italian bikes have the styling and the concept is great, but the execution is poor.
You're wrong I'm afraid. Aprilia's are renowned for their reliability and the engines are virtually bombproof. I rode my old Mille R for 15,000 miles and it didn't stutter once. And I rode it through the winter !
Explain why my brother's SXV450 properly broken in had a con-rod failure with 2k miles on the clock? Maybe the Rotax engines are bombproof but not the Aprilia made ones
Explain why an yamaha r1 dropped a valve with 1k miles on the clock, and why a cbr600 cooked its engine with 3k on the clock etc etc. There are lemons out there, but I wouldn't judge a whole make on that experience. If every aprillia sxv died like that so early they would never have been released
Add up the cases, Italian bikes will yield more problems than Japanese makes. Just look at the recall listings online or in magazines. As I overhaul my 748, I ask each time 'why was this designed like this?" Im not knocking the Ital. bikes, Im just not confident in their ability to hold up. Im sure they've gotten better, but not even close.
And to add, I've owned 1 Alfas, 1 Maserati, 1 Duc, worked on the SXV & a Cag. Alazzurra. Also sailed on a ship with a problematic and difficult to fix FIAT slow speed diesel propulsion engine. I can back up my opinions on Italian engineering. Regardless, I still love my 748.
Fair enough, I wouldn't really know a lot about Italian cars/bikes so I won't try to argue with you there. If its not a performance or weight thing, maybe it's just something they aren't bothered with. btw a maserati and a duke? You must be pretty rich haha
This is true about Aprilia reliabilty. They are considered the Honda of Italy so are very good these days. However the RSV4 is an average bike and certainly not worth the £13k UK price tag. It's defo a track bike as I found it awful in low to mid rpm's. I opted for another CBR1000RR which is still the best litre bike out there even if it is 3 years old. You can't compete with so many years refinement.
I know of an Aprilia owner who has around 140,000 miles on his Futura. The Rotax designed engines have been said to be bullet proof by several people that I know. My Futura has 17,000 miles on it and aside from the electrical issues and fuel leakage problems it's running very strong. I don't know where you got that opinion from.
Aprilia bikes have a bit more raw style than Ducati's and the engine noise is much angrier. Plus they're far more comfortable to ride and don't require a small fortune to upkeep, unlike a Ducati. Comparing a 1098 to and RSV isn't fair since the 1098 has the advantage of a continuing evolution (916, 996, 999), while the RSV hasn't been developed since '04/5.
imo Aprilia Bikes are better looking than the Ducatis
Both are sexy but I prefer Aprilia styling
Ducati 1098 outperforms the RSV1000 but you cant get the full potential out of either of them on the road anyway so I'd go for the aprilia. Much cheaper too
ADBISME - haha yeah Barry Sheene was what?? Oh and James Toseland is how many times world superbike champion? Michael Rutter, Rocket Ron Haslem and his son Leon to name but a few haha don't know how to sit on a bike??? WHAT
Ugly looking bike, just like the new Honda CBR1000RR, they are designing these bikes too small, they will be the size of pocket bikes in in 15 years if they keep making them smaller and smaller for camel jockey's.
pillion passengers, fuck that, if you wanna carry pillions get a cbr 600f, nice big seat on it for you both. if i had this bike, i would rip off the rear foot rests and there would be 1 seat only..........A..fuckin...men!
this is the worst video. shut the fuck up and start the fuckin' thing. and what's up with all the close ups? pull back and let see the damm thing... sheesh
Wonderful! Since 99 I'm riding RSV, I also love racing in European circuits on it, and only God knows how much time I was waiting a 4cyl. Unfortunately now I haven't money, I can't buy it. Anyway, even if it's too late:welcome!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Come on Aprilia! The freaking frame should have been black to match the rest of the bike!!! The exhaust is hideous but nice fairing work. Thats all I have to say.
I mean seriously, its a lovely lookin bike; here to hoping the Italians dont go the same way as the Japs have makin bike microscopic. Im 6'2 and the new blade looks like a toy when I sit on it. The only bike out there that actually "fits" me is the RSVR. Future bikes need to be bigger
Try the Triumph Daytona 675. I'm 1.90(meters) and I've tried the new Daytona, my length is just perfect for this bike. Altho it has not as much CC's as the RSVR, but it's still a nice bike and pretty high, it goes around the corners verry well and easy to throw the bike from corner to corner.
This V4, I think it's pretty low. I've seen Nakano on the bike, and Nakano looks like a giant on the V4.. :(
Thats all you have to say about the bike!?!? An EXCLUSIVE with the bike, and all I get is one comment on the ride height and the seat....LAME!!!

The RSV4 is lookin' like a bit of a bargain in the UK at £15k (still a lot of money) when compared to the £18k(?) for the RC45, when it was launched.
Aprilia will need to shift a lot of bikes (I'll be expecting a lower entry-level model) to re-coup the development and production costs.

Fair enough, I wouldn't really know a lot about Italian cars/bikes so I won't try to argue with you there. If its not a performance or weight thing, maybe it's just something they aren't bothered with. btw a maserati and a duke? You must be pretty rich haha
SH1TSHOOT 2 years ago
rich? hell no, i just buy used and as cheap as possible. It was an 86 Biturbo that I bought in 99. Im more like a glutton for Italian punishment

@s1914
You can't compete with so many years refinement.
fotokitdirect 1 year ago
@s1914 I can vouch for that too, I had an RS250 two stoke that didn't miss a beat in over 15, 000km of riding (yes I know its based on a Suzuki donk)

guess you didn't hear about motor recalls....

Much cheaper too
jimmieteemm 3 years ago 3
Apart from that hideous frame.
Trellis just looks so much better. And how can you go past the single swingarm?

Wish there was an American on an Italian bike to cheer on in SBK.
I like Italian bikes but I'm American.
So I'll probably be cheering on Biaggi on the Aprilia and Ben Spies on the Yamaha, back and forth.
Novantii 3 years ago
Well, it's not SBK, but in MotoGP we'll have Hayden riding for Duacti.

Ugly looking bike, just like the new Honda CBR1000RR, they are designing these bikes too small, they will be the size of pocket bikes in in 15 years if they keep making them smaller and smaller for camel jockey's.

Wonderful! Since 99 I'm riding RSV, I also love racing in European circuits on it, and only God knows how much time I was waiting a 4cyl. Unfortunately now I haven't money, I can't buy it. Anyway, even if it's too late:welcome!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't call it a bike unless you add "motorbike" or "motorcycle". A bike has cranks which use human power, not an engine. Get your facts straight.

Come on Aprilia! The freaking frame should have been black to match the rest of the bike!!! The exhaust is hideous but nice fairing work. Thats all I have to say.
MotoGPfan80 3 years ago
R&D is near completion. LeoVince has figured out how to get more power out of this machine. Exhaust available early in 09
leovinceusa 3 years ago
That exhaust has to go... Throw some Akropovics on instead.

Rsv4... an italian masterpiece
flone31 3 years ago 5
I mean seriously, its a lovely lookin bike; here to hoping the Italians dont go the same way as the Japs have makin bike microscopic. Im 6'2 and the new blade looks like a toy when I sit on it. The only bike out there that actually "fits" me is the RSVR. Future bikes need to be bigger
Razgrizkiller 3 years ago
Try the Triumph Daytona 675. I'm 1.90(meters) and I've tried the new Daytona, my length is just perfect for this bike. Altho it has not as much CC's as the RSVR, but it's still a nice bike and pretty high, it goes around the corners verry well and easy to throw the bike from corner to corner.
This V4, I think it's pretty low. I've seen Nakano on the bike, and Nakano looks like a giant on the V4.. :(

bloody hell, whats with everyohne just arguing all the time on youtube?
it's an amazing machine to look at,
on the track OR on road it would be a nice road.. just like an Audi TT sports car.
the true controlled rider will know the limits of the bike and abide by the law anyway.
I only have a 125 cc bike but when I move onto bigger bikes it dont mean that im gonna instantly become a Dick.

Eventually I'd like to see the RSV4 factroy against a new Duc 1198S. The performance and price ought to be fairly even.
