What I find interesting is that we are witnessing an argument about the definition of a phrase. While one woman tries to explain why they are not using that phrase, because she believes it does not apply, the other woman is adamant and ANGRY. She refuses to listen to one word, despite the other woman remaining calm, refusing to call names. The other shouts down and repeats herself endlessly. It is obvious who has the stronger argument, even though we never get to hear it fully.
After thinking about this for a little while, I understand why Regina is so mad.
She is mad because she knows that proposition 737 will most likely pass in Oklahoma. Oklahoma's population is for the most part made up of white conservatives who will vote to ban affirmative action if given the chance.
Every white person I know will be voting for proposition 737. She is desperate because she knows that she has already lost.
This . . . freak who lost her Malcolm X hat somewhere . . . is basically doing the job of the petitioner by trying to link affirmative action to racial preferences.
Typical left wing whack jobs . . . According to them, no one else has a right to say, do or think anything that runs counter to PC orthodoxy or Democrat "values."
I wonder if she would have told that "Get your white master over here" crap to Clarence Thomas.
64 civil rights says we regard each other WITHOUT regard...a preference is WITH regard. I own a business and hire the qualified. I love that I can be blind to race or gender and still have diversity. Brilliant hard workers come in all colors and both genders. I saw this blocker on the front page of the Tulsa world with Jabar Shumate. Has he denounced this?
I agree. It's all very cute for people to say that affirmative action is 'discrimination' but HOW many Whites are these programs REALLY adversely affecting? Are whites suffering in large numbers because of these programs? Is it affecting their livelihoods to a great degree? Affecting their quality of lives? Preventing them on a mass scale from gaining good educations? Basically, are THEY suffering like Blacks have been suffering until these programs were put into place?
We got rid of affirmative action in CA without any ill effects to the university system. I'll also note a professor at UCLA Law conducted a study that found affirmative action HURT minorities, because many ended up in schools they were unprepared for and did not succeed.
Unfortunately for your argument, in Oklahoma the affirmative action program kept a person of color from obtaining a job because the quota established for their color had already been filled. That was the reason for the initiative.
If affirmative action adversely affects just ONE person, then that person's inalienable constitutional rights are being violated and government should immediately cease and desist their unconstitutional affirmative action programs.
By the way, on the video you can see this black woman physically assaulting the gentleman holding the camera twice.
Did the cameraman file assault charges against this woman? He should have called the police and had this woman carted of to jail.
When our Society can look at people based upon each persons inherent value and stops value judgements based upon the color of someone's skin, we can talk about the "burdens" of govt., corporations etc...
meanwhile why not Highlight "Grant preferential treatment" and tell me where in our society blacks, hispanics etc... are getting it EXCEPT where granted by law?
The law isn't supposed to grant preferential treatment to ANYONE, regardless of skin color!
How dare you say that the solution to past discrimination is to implement MORE discrimination?
I am an Oklahoma resident and will happily vote for the initiative. I have personally convinced 7 people to register to vote in order to end discrimination by approving this initiative. I have yet to meet a single Oklahoman who plans to vote against the initiative.
It strikes me that we may have a case here for citing the screaming racist ninny for civil rights violations -- after all, she is attempting to interfere with the right of the people to petition the government. She is nothing but the Klan with a tan.
Affirmative Action is discrimination they are not being deceptive, and the exact wording of the ballot initiative is on the petition if they want to check it. This women is just a racist, she is making racist comments about both the white people there, as well as the black lady who opposes AA. Why is she so afraid of the measure going onto the ballot?
I hear the lady petitioning say stop preferences and discrimination. If the other did not want to sign the petition she should have gone AWAY...not called her a step and fetch it working for her blue eyed master. Racist and ugly with NO NO NO credability.
I am strongly PRO-affirmative action. I wouldn't have gotten into an argument with those people but I absolutely despise their "wordplay" as well! They actually should ask potential signers of the petition if they are AGAINST affirmative action.
You got to be kidding me. To say that this person was harrasing is a total untruth. The truth of the matter is that the woman was attempting to correct the mistatment by the ballot taker who get paid by the each signature. Simular to a telemarketer.
The OkCRI seeks to eliminate only those that engage in preferential treatment. Therefore, it would have been inaccurate to seek petition signatures by telling citizens that the OkCRI is "anti-AA." The woman who is intimidating/harassing is the woman who is misusing the term. In CA, MI & WA, where preferential treatment has been eliminated, other forms of"AA cont. to operate. The SC has acknowledged these different forms of AA especially former Justice O'Connor who used the term race preferences.
"preferential treatment" in America will Never be eliminated untill we end white supremecy (as well as hate crimes and police state violence), which seems to be making a huge comeback in recent years as the Fascist regime takes hold and turns brother against brother by making an 'ellusive enemy' both within and outside our borders.
"AA" is not a term that has universal meaning to all people. It is used in many ways: to make sure that there is no discrimination; to engage in outreach to make certain that everyone is informed of job opportunities, ie; to recruit "minorities" in college, w/o lowering standards; to set-aside contracts for women and minorities; and to apply lower standards for college admission. All of these are forms of AA. Some are desirable, while others are not. (more on next post)
Tho i agree this constitutes harrasment by the woman against the anti affirmative action,
she makes a good point.
1. It needs to be presented as what it is, "Anti Affirmative Action".
To mischaracterize what it Is Demeans the whole process for getting questions on our ballots. Tho i Agree with peoples' Right to be heard, and Right to bring a Question to the voters, i would Never sign this petition as i'll be fighting against it if it Does come to a vote.
I would also ABSOLUTELY NEVER sign a petition like this!! For the people who are "ANTI" affirmative action, this is my question to y'all: why did no one protest for over 400-odd years when white americans, and most specifically WHITE MALES had the MOST privileges, opportunities, and chances over everyone else in this country, most of the time, solely because of their race? I would call THAT "affirmative action' as well!
All of those people who you are complaining had advantages for 400 years are DEAD.
I have no connection with slavery or discrimination in this country. My family are recent arrivals to the new world and bear no guilt for what happened hundreds of years ago on this continent.
"interestingly enough" quoting a source does not mean you carry the "spirit" of that source. i.e. suicide bombers, spanish inquisition....
Saying it's "pro civil rights" does not make it what it isn't.. White Supremecy is Still here and discrimination unchecked is rolling back the tiny bit of progress we've made in this country. What next? "Son of 'End Discrimination'"?
No, the petition is about prohibiting the distribution of benefits and burdens by government based upon race. Affirmative action can continue, using non-racial criteria (say, for example, poverty).
And since you want folks to "be honest", let's look at exactly what the language of the initiative says:
"The state shall not discriminate against or grant preferential treatment to any individual or group on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity or national origin in the operation of public employment, public education or public contracting."
Of that list above, which do you believe are an appropriate basis for discriminating against or giving preferences to individuals? And which groups do you believe ought to be affirmatively discriminated against by government?
I'll not get into arguiing semantics with you, and i'm tired of playing games. When you deign to answer my questions, i may deign to answer your 'legitimate' questions.
In other words, when confronted with the actual words of the Oklahoma Civil Rights Initiative, you choose to run and hide.
After all, the clear and unambiguous language of the proposal shows that the goal is to eliminate discrimination by government. If you favor government discrimination based upon race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin, why not just admit it?
And I'll answer your question -- I don't want to see affirmative action ended. I want to see discrimination based upon race, sex, color, ethnicity or national origin ended. If one then wishes to have special programs aiding those from backgrounds of poverty or other disadvantaged circumstances, I'm all for it. But if using those categories to impose unequal treatment is wrong, then it is ALWAYS wrong -- even if those harmed are white or male.
Because we Know that the poor white male is severely handicapped in this country, right?
It's not discrimination against the poor underepresented white male that you're seeking to change, it's any Preferential consideration under the law for races that who Are discriminated against in this country.
It's amazing how many "token white men" i see every day in the top 1% of America's wealth and throughout our govt.
wow, this woman is violent and full of rage.
No matter where a person stands on the issue of race preference, at least show civility and basic respect.

And Colin Powell and Condoleeza Rice as well!
As to your "PS"
Affirmative Action is a counter balance that this country still needs untill it Evolves.
Untill that day this is a moral decision that has Had to be mandated by law to somehow Try to level the 'playing field'.

It's already there and without a mechanism in place that legally prohibits it, it will be as bad as it was in the 60's and 70's.
