you can put a geforce 7800gs with a video rom mod witha mod to the connector to limit it to 4x agp , also if you order a dual 1.7 or 1.8 ghz you can ajust the dip switches for 2.0ghz(would recomend a better heat sink) add an ssd and your flying with the power of a power pc cpu.
@SeddieLove88 there are g4 upgrades from a company called sonnet. i believe you can go up to 1.8ghz G4 dual processor, that with 2gb of ram and a ati 9700 graphics card will give you enough power to do just about anything with this machine short of hd video editing. is yours a MDD, or is it like a quicksilver. agp, digital audio or sawtooth model. those can only be upgraded to 1.5gb of ram.
Also it's a shame you can't upgrade the cases with new intel-mac hardware. they look awesome! Best looking Computer ever imho, it's so sad to see these going to trash only because they aren't efficient anymore. Computer industry as a whole should start to take real responsibility for this planet. they waste a lot of ressources, which is why i bought atx aluonly case for my pc. upgradable for years and if not...it can be recycled by just melting the whole case. luckily apple did this with the g5s
This is still a great deal computer BUT these machines are very loud. I got two maxed out Powermacs MDD over the years from friends for no money...i would've loved to keep them but i just can't stand the noise these machines make. And they really are air heaters....they use 400kilowatts per year using it 8 hours a day in standby only which costs 120euros energy every year. better buy an energy efficient Computer, save 80euros a year and buy upgrades for that money.
I have the same machine. The Mac store tried to say I could not go past 10.4.11. I need to upgrade to 10.5 for Pro Tools. I guess I will max out my ram & upgrade.
I'm getting one with a messed up power supply for 10$. Thinking it is the fuze but anyway, how does leopard run on it? I have an iMac g4 and it is slow but works. Can you use ddr2 ram with the powermac?
My PowerMac G5 2.5ghz Quadcore, I have had since 2006 and it still kicks the crap outta My girlfriends Dell desk top with its intel processor from 2009.

@Bassocic that's not entirely true. you can't just slap windows on a mac without emulating a bios for windows. macs lack a bios that windows uses in favor of a newer more advanced EFI, and to run windows you have to therefore emulate a bios so no the parts aren't exactly the same as a pc, but the processors, gpu's etc are, just flashed with mac roms (a bit larger than pc ones) and the ram depending on the model mac (mac pro) is sometimes differnet in the sense that it's server class fully buffer

I actually have a MDD as my Hobby PC. I just like messing with it. It is has dual raptors in raid stripe and a WD Black 1 TB data drive. It has 2 gb of ram and DVD/CD burner. It runs really well I only need a better video card but refuse to spend 180.00 on flashed 7800 GS. I am going to attempt to flash a ATI 850 for it lets hope it works.
Best looking computer Apple ever made IMO. You can change the power supply fans and quiet that thing down the fans are the cuplrit. Also install chud tools which somehow idles the processors down without affecting performance, runs about 35 degrees cooler!
i have the MDD 2003, i like to keep it to those specs, and dual 1.42 Procs are hard to find, but the graphics are maxed out, the ram is maxed out, and the Drives are near-maxed(510GB combined & 22X Superdrive) the thing really screams though, photoshop CS2 runs really nice, and so does iMovie HD 05'
Hmm, the graphics aren't quite maxed out. There are plenty of other cards out there that will eat that poor Ti, and support your displays native resolution as well, and give leopard "Hardware" support for Core Image, My 350Mhz G4 with a FX 5200 I flashed runs most any resolution i can throw at it and leopard loves it.
It's the single 1.25Ghz, it doesn't have additional cooling, and has the original 400W "Wind Tunnel" power supply, this is one of the later ones that can't boot into OS 9
you probably will only be able to find leopard on ebay, now, they go for about $100, for the installation DVD. you can also check amazon, it will be cheaper there
