The beautiful luring cabaretish sound of Weill's music. Always fascinating. And nice presentation, indeed.

The 3 Penny Opera is one of those pieces that needs the period sound to be effective. None of the later versions seem to be able to replicate that distinctive early '30's German sound.

Great to hear the kurt Weill music in a 1930

recording. We are more familiar with the 1950s

recording and the vocals by Lotte Lenya, wife

of Kurt Weill.

Lenya made a few Weil-Brecht recordings also still in 1930 for Ultraphone-Telefunken, may be found nowadays on re-recordings.
