That starting tune, Steel Guitar Rag, was the opening theme tune for WCKY, Cincinatti OH, back in the early 1940s. It's the best version I ever heard even today.

I met him 2 weeks before he killed his wife. My dad was there to meet him about air conditioning for the theme park he was planning. I was jus a kid but was awed by his musical talent. Anyway he flew in in a small airplane (we thought it would crash). He leapt out with a red face (he was livid) and was making comments about his wife screwing around. He seemed to be intoxicated. When we heard what happened after that. Sad. A waste of talent. One of the very best swing talents ever.

@therealbluesdog I believe Spade Cooley killed his wife about 1961. He finally got her to admit that she was running around on him. I had heard rumors that she gave Roy Rogers as one of her lovers. I think she just did that to get Spade mad, because he and Roy were good friends. Rogers never commented on it one way or the other.  Didn't Spade choke his wife in view of their young daughter? He did have a bad temper and often would fire members of his band, and then hire them back.

@MrFrontrowkid I read the thing about her in Wikipedia too about her claims that she had an affair with Roy Rogers. I refuse to believe it. I'm speculating she said that because Spade had been Roy's stunt double and she could sting him with it since Spade may have felt he always in Roy's shadow, even though he could play the fiddle like a god .Also, I think Roy had too much class to screw around, let alone with Spade's girl.
