  • awesome cover. drums sound like there tuned a little too low though

  • Love the camera shaking with the bass drum :) Awesome cover man :D

  • You are one of the few people on youtube that do good drum covers. I love you.

  • I watched this for about a minute thinking it was the actual music video for the song.

    Awesome drumming!

  • Dave?

  • pretty damn good

  • Sweet! Dave Grohl is always hard to play.

  • nice man... congrats!!!

  • i like zildjian *.*

  • is there double hits on the bass drum at the end?

or just one bass hit between every top fill??

    hard to tell

  • @carrotmuffin71 sposed to be single

  • @carrotmuffin71 Double

  • @carrotmuffin71 There is a double bass pattern in between each set of two hits. For e.g. Double snare, double kick, double toms double kick. And so forth :)

  • @MrHaematic that's crazy!....thanks guys

  • Rock Band - 100% lol Nice Job Dude!

  • OMG JOOR HOUSE SHAKES WHENEVER JOO HIT TEH BAASSS.

  • HEY DAVE HOW ABOUT YOU STICK TO THE DRUMS!

  • Export ur vids in at a higher volume :D other than that friggin brilliant.

  • Hey man how are your kick and snare tuned? They sound fantastic

  • @haX0r3 lol his snare sounds horrible..

  • @iLoveAltNation Sounds nice for me. And that's what we call subjectivity.

  • @VacLateralus It's the nasty overtone that kills it for me, other then that it sounds relatively good.

  • Great cover! Really like it! Just a little note, the amazing fill at 4:58 is actually played with a single pedal, not doubble pedal as you do. But it sounds quite the same.

    More covers pls! :)

  • @RockDrumming he also plays it with a single pedal listen more carefully

  • @ReBeLhIpI if you look at the base drum pedal at the fill he does not. he uses doubble pedals. But as long as it sounds good, which is does it's an awsome cover.

  • @ReBeLhIpI one does not simply hear the difference between a double or single bass pedal unless it is unbelievably fast

  • Heeeeeell Yeeeeeeeeeeah

  • fuck you are awesome you should be dave grohls double

  • just subscribed while watching ur Elephants cover, but if I wasn't subscribed already, I'd do it again!

  • Damn what a great project. Three of some of the most talented people in Rock & Roll!!! And Dave Grohl back on the drums makes it. He's the one who got John Paul Jones to play with them. Not to discredit Josh cause he's amazing in his own right. He's a guitar icon to me. I wish I could just get the same sound that he does. Josh if you see this I'd love a few tips on where your sound comes from. Don't give me that "my guitar" b.s. either.

  • Damn what a great project. Three of some of the most talented people in Rock & Roll!!!

  • What's your complete kit? Can you describe it?

  • @mwhiplash sure it's a Tama Starclassic performer (birch) kit. 10", 12", 14", 18" toms. Mapex Black Panther Walnut snare, 6.5x14".

  • @mwhiplash oh and 22" kick.

  • The way the whole video shakes everytime you hit the bass is fucking awesome

  • naiuce what kind of snare you using

  • @understated2010 thanks brah. it's a mapex black pather deep forest walnut 6.5x14", they don't make them anymore. And I recently fucked up the bearing edge....:( FML

  • @VSDRUMS lolz awesome sound i would try to get it if i had the money : /

  • FLAWLESS!! I dig your sound, your kit, your style and the entire video!

  • NEXT TIME U DO A VIDEO YOU MIGHT WANT TO TAKE UR PIPE OFF UR MUSIC STAND

  • Dude... the end are 2 double hits with de bass?

Snare snare base base floor tom rack tom?

    i have that question!

    I hope your answer

  • @thegreenass182 thats correct. I play it like that all the way through, but I think on the second half he does 3/1 instead of 2/2, so snare-tom-tom-kick, snare-tom-tom-kick. But I just kept it snare-tom-kick-kick on that part. make sense?

  • @VSDRUMS do you use the double slick for the end ?

  • @sandi739 double slick? I don't think so...lol

  • @VSDRUMS double kick? lol

  • @sandi739 lol ohhh i didn't know if that was some special technique i've never heard of lol. yeah I do use double kick at the end, and I know dave uses a single pedal. I just didn't think about it at the time

  • @VSDRUMS lol , that's just a funny name i have for it . its really handy if you can do heal toe like he can , he does it really fast tho

  • @VSDRUMS lol , thats just a funny name i have for it . its really handy if you can do heal toe like he can , he does it really fast tho

  • yeah ! thats awesome. i can play it too and new fang!

  • Thanks for posting this! Great sound, very helpful.

  • how. did. you. accomplish. the last bit. fuck

  • awesome cover, but i can't stand the sounds of your snare..

  • i love the headbanging!!!! great cover!!!!!!

  • i love the head banging!!!! great cover!!!!!

  • very well done sir

  • @JohnEddy123 Hell yea man! Makes this video look intense!

You rock bro! Keep it up. =D

  • love this cover!

  • I hate the original evans EC2's, the SST ones smash em

  • @rith5 agreed, that's what I use now!

  • @VSDRUMS Hey I'm glad you found that sound man, do you have any videos up with the new heads?

  • @rith5 yeah the new Queens of the Stoneage cover uses them I believe.

  • @VSDRUMS Great video, loved the Drums sound and of course your playing, cheers

  • The no one loves me & neither do I part should be kick cymbal & snare together, not double cymbal! Sounds good though!

  • Dude, very nice.

  • dude i love the bowl on the table by the kit haha... theres always one next to me 2 haha

  • A bit of criticism, your snare work sounds awfully inconsistent in the songs that I have checked out with you playing on. It kinda looks like the snare is too high for you and is cramping your playing up a bit. Other than that you're pretty good. Your set sounds really nice.

  • @CCDaDon15 I know I'm late on this, but thanks for the advice! I've actually done some modifications lately to my setup that make my playing more relaxed and comfortable. Definitely very important!

  • I realy love it how the camera shakes with the kick !

  • you snare sounds so good

  • Amazing set, sound and cover, keep it up!

  • Your drum cover as well as your EP is without any doubts great work. Keep it up! :)

But... In the e-mail, I would really like you guys to call me "Dear Sire", because "hey there" is just so damn unpolite... ;)

  • Damn tight cover! nice work

  • That's fuckin sick how the camera shakes to the kick. nick cover too, and nice cymbals.

  • Comment removed

  • @sdools95 I answered you first ? earlier. There's no EQ on the cymbals, they are coming through the drum mics, not using any overheads. They sound better in real life. :)

  • @VSDRUMS hah, my bad, bad internet. that's awesome, i just have zbt's now i want to get a custom, it's kinda hard to just skip up though. I't's a lot to just buy a pack but even more expensive to buy one at a time

  • I know you're playing with a's and a custom's but what sizes are your crashes and ride?

  • @sdools95 I change up my cymbal setup a lot, but in this video it's a 20" A custom crash (right), and 18" A custom crash (left), and a 21" A Sweet ride

  • @VSDRUMS Do you ever work with any K crashes?

  • @yousmokecrackers yeah I have a K Dark thin crash currently, sounds great! It's my far left crash in my latest couple of videos.

  • Nice

  • nice to see how youre enjoying it,it pays back.good job

  • I like how much the camera shakes towards the end haha amazing!

  • This is amazing!

  • nice headbanging at 2:46

you felt dave grolh's power inside you :D

    nice nice nice cover

  • Did you use heel-toe on the ending?

  • @JEB375 nah, double kick pedal.

  • ONE SUPERGROUP TO RULE THEM ALL!

  • Dave Grohl is the man indeed....this is a stunning tribute....!

  • Great cover

  • good drumming but i dont like the snare

  • Agreed that Dave is the man! And that bass is KICKING! good cover man! What set is that?

  • @FighterOfFoo284 thanks! it's a Tama Starclassic Performer kit

  • @VSDRUMS Nice! I'm hoping to get a Tama someday down the road.

  • Nice. I've been dying to see how other people do the ending part.

  • im really interested in learning this song. how did you learn it so well?

  • @KRamEr7318 dunno, just listened to it a lot, learned by ear...I've had a lot of practice doing that haha (see my channel)

  • That was a great cover man, cud ya tell me what your playing at that little fill at 0:05?

  • @CrucialConor thanks! The fill you are talking about is Kick - Snare -- Kick -- Kick - Kick that make sense?

  • @VSDRUMS Thanks so much i was stuck on that for ages, got the rest of the song down, sorry to be annoying but this is my last question, for the final bit of the songs on the toms, Are they just triplets as in RLK or is it something else?

  • @CrucialConor well, it's 16th notes actually, 2 toms + 2 kicks per beat. But honestly, I think after listening to it more I think he switches to 3 toms + 1 kick half way through, but I just played 2 + 2 the whole way. It's def all 16th notes tho.

  • @VSDRUMS Thanks a million man, i'd be stuck on that for ever if ya didnt tell me, nice 1.

  • more tcv, foo fighters, or qotsa covers please!

  • that 's a beautifull song to play on drums...sooooo fun..but still when i play it i kind of add some fills here and there to make it fun my way you know ^^ but aaaaaaaaaawesomme drum kit and playing !! likin' it!

  • Dude... that was pizzazz. You're like, electric dynamite.

  • woaah, he's a really, REALLY good drummer. <:

i can drum, but not like that!

    well done(:

    and josh homme is legend(:

  • plz, a big question: its all 4/4 or it changes somewhere?

  • @cocowainfeld it's all 4/4 except the last part I believe is cut time, 2/2.

  • Nice drumset ! And nice cover indeed !

  • fucking yes. Great work man. This video is going in my favourites.

And ye gota love Dave Grohl's/John Bonham's triplets.

  • solid dude

  • Bro, where's the double bass hits at?! Nah just kidding. Good job.

  • Nice cover, man.

Is that New Breed on your table?

  • @OzoneReviews yes it sure is! I hate that book!!!! i've thrown it across the room and punched it several times.

  • @VSDRUMS

Haha, I get what you mean.

  • u know what would be great??? that you show us how to play the last part!!!

Great job man, keep it up!!!! 5*

  • well done man and yer kit sounds great

  • Fair play!!!!!! just need to grow your hair longer!!!!!

  • haha workin' on it!

  • fuck yeah man this rocks

  • hell yeah dude, great job.

  • Really nicelly done there m8! best played & sounding cover i have seen of this!

  • were you able to somehow reduce the volume of Dave Grohl while you were playing? Or did you just literally put your audio on top of the song and match it up with your video?

  • I just listened to the song on my iphone (pretty much full blast), but when playing the drums, it drowns out daves playing enough to where it isn't distracting. Then, I export the drum audio (mixed), and then mix my drum track with the original TCV song (with daves drums). I use Final Cut Pro software to match the video and both audio tracks (TCV song and my mixed drum track). Make sense?

  • how do you put the original track on your recording?

  • I use Final Cut Pro to import original track and my own mixed drum track and mix them together

  • Great work man. Keep it up.

Try 'A Song For The Dead' next time!

  • can we hear the original song's drum kit while we're listening to you play as well? I think at 1:46 I hear some stuff that you clearly didn't play. Nice work.

  • Yep. My drum track is on top of the entire original song, including the original drum track. So at 1:46, Dave plays a snare fill that I didn't play, so that's what you're hearing. hard to remember every little fill! haha

  • @VSDRUMS Hey man, I was just wondering, at the end of this song are you using a double bass or really well timed triplets? Since listening to it I always thought it was double? From here looks like flams and single kick?

Great work by the way you have a very similar play style to myself, especially in your band Gods, nice to see :)

  • Hey IRDANIMAL! I'm using double bass at the end, the pattern is 32nd notes, not trips. Dave uses a single pedal, but I found it easier to make smooth with the double pedal, though a lot of people on here are giving me shit for it haha. Just playing it the way I would play it in real life, heh. It's 2 over 2 pattern, 32nd notes. That's how I played it anyway.

Thanks for the props! Glad to hear from fellow heavy hitting drummers :) happy drumming man.

  • @VSDRUMS We just got out the studio two weeks ago, I'll send you a link when the vids are up. Cheers for the reply, keep the lead foot going.

  • thats why i will learn to play drums.

  • perfect end :D

  • Try to do without Doble Bass, I know that is TO dificult, but is not the same with one and 2

  • nice bowl on the table. Solid drumming, great song choice

  • the second half of this song makes me feel real powerful when i play it :D

  • love the feeling put into it.

    awesome vibe.

    awesome jam.

    awesome job.

  • Solid. The Bees Knees. The Shiz-nit. Awesome.

  • fuckin rockin it out after the breakdown, hells yeah. My fav TCV song just b/c of that.

  • Your kit sounds really nice man.

  • kit sounds great, especially the bass.

  • pretty cool how it shakes when you hit the bass

  • Fuck yeah mate!!!!

  • U is cheating on end of song with double bass quads

    Ya we sneak!!

Dave (& me) uses one bass drum pedal for quads!

  • i wouldn't call it cheating...that's how I would play it...it's a COVER

  • @VSDRUMS great cover - but it is harder to do with a single pedal which is what I think polyblast is getting at. Either way, you've perfected the arrangement, sounds great :)

  • @polyblast nah son he definatly uses double bass i watched a live video closly and hes using both feet

  • @ultrakillerlemonade

dave doesnt use double bass ever. wat he does is easy to do with a single pedel. the other foot is jus going on the hi hat when hes doing it

  • Awesome video man. If I could ask, what hats are those? They sound amazing.

  • thanks! they are actually a weird mix. I have a paiste signature sound edge on the bottom, and a zildjian a custom mastersound top. sounds pretty cool, but since this video I've replaced my hats with paiste 2002 sound-edge.

  • @VSDRUMS Phew, two types of extremely out of my budget hats haha. I've thought about the 2002 sound edges, the rest of my set up are 2002s and I'm a huge Bonham fan, but they've always seemed to be really sharp live, like cutting through everything. It might just be worth it for the open sound though...

  • Great cover man, I did this on bass and I gotta tell you it's a completely different (and better!) song after the 2nd chorus.

  • Amazing job, dude!!! great ending... and your kit sounds great!

Does anyone have a video of a band covering TCV ??

  • awesome way to show us how the end is played...easier than it sounds thats for sure...do new fang if you havnt already

  • Sweet. love the head banging bit at 2:46. TCV kick ass

  • see them tomorrow night wooo!

  • hellllll yeahhhhhh!

  • Lets see a cover of Reptiles.

  • I'm turning into a Jukebox!

  • It's more of a challenge than a request. I read that Dave G took a while to get his head round the various changes and how the different beats interact in the sections of the song. They re-produce it absolutely note perfect live though.

  • yeah just playing. It's an amazing song. I'll see if I can get to it.

  • Saw them in Melbourne tonight and last night man...gotta some good video, will post for you. Second show was off the chart!

  • I wanna get a comment in while you're still replying, great job dude, was tapping along with you. Love your passion, you've really got the Grohl feel down. Keep it up!

  • i can only think of one word.... SICK!!!
