I might to moving to the States but when they mean to share the oil THEY WANT IT. We are keeping it I literally saw a commercial not to long ago where it said that CANADA's oil sands would benefit the United States. I never knew Canada was the 51st state. I will be happy to move but the oil stays there. Now for the Environment problem WHO THE FUCK IS PUTTING DUCKS NEAR where oil is located. Move them its better moving their habitats then them getting screwed with the oil that's over there.
harper will exit nafta agreement and tax the us on every pipe line that leads into the us at a rate that would exceed the cost of them buying it from the sudies which will increas the reserve increase the profit and ultimately show the world that canada is pulling away from the american way of life and buisness as they are turning their country to an undesirable place to be and running their goverment in a hurtful maner to king and country, and the citezens do nothing nothing nothing but watch.
By selling all its oil to the US Canada does increase its dependency on the US as a buyer but at the same time US dependence on Canada as a seller also increases.
Becoming a major supplier of oil to the US increases Canada's political clout in Washington but it should probably sell to the Chinese as well, just to keep its options open.
Hilariously enough, Harper said we believe in binding contracts. This of course, is true. However, if we look at the Free Trade contract the U.S. signed with Canada, we see, that when it came to softwood lumber, americans simply had a different definition of the word "binding." Also, according to the "deal" Alberta's oil is completely accessible to America no matter what Canada's predicament. Not that Albertans would care anyway. If oil goes to $200 a barrel we won't be paying $199.99.
The tar sands projects are shelved, The US is holding down oil prices to try to do harm to the middle east. Alberta is heading down into and things will get much worse.
I would say rest up because when oil goes back up again to say....200 dollars a barrel there's going to be a flood of development, or desecration, depending on your political point of view. At least this time Albertan's weren't able to blame the federal government for the collapse in oil prices like they were in the early eighties. Don't get me wrong the rest of Canada's federal tax dollar will still be paying the cleanup bill for all those settling ponds leaching carcinogens.
There is a comparable amount of tar sand in Venezuela. When haven't companies invested 120 billion dollars in its extraction. This is because it is perceived as an unstable region and you never know when the royalty rates will be upped. I predict that if a major investment is made in Venezuela it will be by China. Canada on the other hand is selling not just oil but more importantly: Stability. Any changes we make to energy royalties will have to be very gradual.
yes, regional stability is in our favor but there is still a vast amount of oilsands available for production and we're still exploring its true potential. true there are large reserves in south america....but that's not helping Canadas economy or my wallet!!
When it comes to the economy I care about the dollar exchange rate, cost of living, inflation, interest rates, the stock market etc...However, my overwhelming concern is employment rates. If someone wants to work and is not totally useless and can't find a job, to me, I feel that person's frustration and anxiety. My understanding is that everyone in Alberta can get a job, and the oil sands are virtually inexaustable. That being the case who cares about massive expansion except stockholders.
honestly, getting "up in arms" over the oilsands is like crying over spilled milk while your house is on fire. the oilsands are a "small price to pay" to help industrial nations supply their populus with energy. and at the same time allow our province and nation to prosper. everything will be reclaimed to preserve the land for future use. environmental protection is a priority. HSE is becoming more and more visible in the industry. its not perfect but it's getting better.
look at cigarettes....we know they're poison but instead of banning them they just cover them up...it's big business. humanity will continue to use fossil fuels because of this mentality. but then we must face the facts...oil is bigger business. i support the oil industry because i know it's importance in society. alberta is a world player now. we can expect to see great things in the future. whats happening in fort mac is nothing compared to other parts of the world (unregulated).
Canada needs to look no farther than germany on how to 'go green'. I watched tv show 'really big things' and the entire country is going green on a massive scale, Germany is about 15 years ahead of north america in green technology and getting off of oil. Oil will never go out of demand because it is such a dense energy source, but we should save some for future gerenerations because it is such a powerful energy source.
but the biggest problem facing canada, is the foreign ownership of oil sands, peak natural gas, and nafta. If canada runs out of Natural gas, we will all freeze while dumbass americans run their SUV's to the bar, and to the lake to run gas guzzling jet ski's and motorboats.
Canada should make a claim to the oil resources, which is what has happened in ALberta already by them raising royalty rates, which in the long run, is fantastic for canada, Alberta. The good news is that the oil sands don't 'flow freely' out of the ground and require lots of work, which is also good because it keeps Canadians in very well paying jobs, and not just shipping money to foreign countries and economies.
say what? fuck the world? you want to shut down the oil patch and say fuck the world.....what about alberta. do you realize that every single person who works in the oilpatch basically helps employ another 120 people....yes it's true. my numbers may be of by 10 or so but true. so if you say fuck the world you can kiss alberta good bye.....i know i'm not willing to do that. and for safety...do some research!! your ignorant.
How about protecting the people around theses plants? there health ? the wild life ? and water ! Canada is going down the wrong road on this ! we should just say "fuck the world"
I find it funny how Stat Oil from norway has thier reserves offshore and such nationalized , and they are buying leases in alberta , the CEO of stat oil in that video had a big smile on his face and said that albeta is very friendly and they like to share.
People will open thier eyes in the future and will see that the conservative government did not serve them well.
A big shout out to Mulroney for giving up control of our resources through NAFTA. What a joke when we can't even feed our own nations energy needs because the USA is hungrier. Great proportional BS. I wonder what happens to Ben when he's freezing his ass out east and the US won't let Alberta send any oil.
yes, and we'll give the americans some of our beer to drink, and after a six pack they'll be so drunk we can just take their weapons and drop them off at a local reservation and let the indians kick the shit out of them.
Why in the hell would the U.S. invade Canada for oil. It's there for the taking. All any american corporation would have to do is buy a lease in northern Alberta and start mining and processing some of the 175 Billion barrels of oil.
We Canadians shouldn't delude ourselves that is is "our" oil. Firstly, it belongs to Alberta and secondly it belongs to the oil companies and they will not subsidize Canada's oil use if it cuts into their profits.
YES !!! crazy shit if that is true .I see prices going through the roof . Alberta is just draining itself of resources like natural gas and such , how does this benefit albertans.
@erciyesli maybe so but when america buys it hello freinds. when china buys it... ok hello freind. it dont matter. when its depleted youll be like, fuck you consumed us! thatll be long after i die so i dont care. pays my bills 4 times over
the oil sands are canadian, we should make them a national resource and develop it all ourselves 100%. whats this with farming out the job to foriegn countries.
Gush, when are we going to learn that we are not American slaves, we have never been and we refuse to be in the future. We are not American, we are Proud Canadain, We do not need US to tell us how to think!!!Damn USA!
Three kicks in the butt of the oil barons (uh! pimps) raping the land, the health of our citizens for generations to come, destroying our water, doing irreparable damage to the environment.
Excuse me, what do you mean by the "softening of Kyoto", and I shake my fists at you all with the wrath of an Albertan scorned.
the oil sands - the failure of the human mind. It takes more energy to extract that dirty oil than is contained within the oil. And please Mr. Americans please walk all over are economy and politicians. Because we all know that the most important thing in the universe is to keep the economy growing! even at the expense of are (albertans) quality of life!
Which is why we have to build a nuclear reactor up in Fort MacMurray to produce both electricity and use the waste steam heat to extract oil from the tar sands. This will take a long time to construct so we should start as soon a possible.
yes, nuclear energy would be a benifit, it would also give the "complainers" something else to complain about. it would make fort mcmurray a terrorist target (well, even more so)with a nuclear reactor. but i agree, start as soon as possible.
