i always felt like petra was the ying to AC/DC's yang. like they are the christian version of them. they got the same feel like that hard-core pure rock feel but with a message. love them. first christian rock group i ever heard.
John Schlitt is my daddy's bff...this man is truely the most loyal person to God. I love him and wish him the best of luck with more years of rocking to come
You know, once upon a time, not too long ago, these guys were the biggest band in Christian music. They were selling millions of records and playing sellout shows in huge arenas. Christian bands then didn't do that. Petra was HUGE.
@LionKing944 Oh thats good hes been real hard to get a hold of lately, you know the type of person that says theyre going to call you back but you know they never will and than you run into them awkward at the grocery store all like "oh, hello lucifer you didnt get my message..... did you?" and the fuckers all like "oh my dog is sick..." etc like i havent heard that one before! but nah really, what a joke....eh?
@Zimouskii the thing with Casting Crowns is, they've described their ministry as "preaching to the choir", so to speak... so they're probably not ever gonna reach out to the secular world very much because the primary audience they want to reach is other Christians. Never heard of John Mark McMillan, have heard of Switchfoot though and I like them.
@ hiswork2009 apparently you haven't heard of Casting Crowns. They're one of the best groups out there and one of the most unashamedly Christian groups in existance- their songs are all almost like sermonettes that are actually enjoyable to listen to. all their albums are good, check out until the whole world hears its the best one.
@rtiffany17 Casting Crowns is good, I was at their first concert! They're still in the "Christian Music" world. Haven't really made a name for themselves in the secular music industry. John Mark McMillan is another good group that sings about changing things. Switchfoot also sings a LOT about the transformation you take when you have been raised with Jesus.
Unfortunately theres darn near nothing original in Christian Music anymore and since the secular companies own all the christian labels and since christian music isnt making any profit or turning heads, they dont care anymore. its all about the *gulp* Lady Gaga and Justin Beiber crap. and most christian bands have conformed to secular styles. thank god Steven Curtis Chapman hasn't swayed. he's pretty much the only real christian artist (in the truest sense of the word) left.
I personally im nihilist and have no spirituality what so ever, i am however very impressed with petra, i recently discovered them and i love how they dont hold back just because of their beliefs
@Taud If you were really a Nihilist, wouldn't posting this comment be meaningless? or music that at that? I'm not trying to be a jerk, I just wanted to figure it out. Can you "love" something, when things and emotions are meaningless?
@Zimouskii well yeah we do a lot of daily things that are meaningless, being nihilist doesnt mean you follow a specific set of rules, i dont get what you mean where would the music and this comment come in? its not a religion in itself, its a philosophical view of religion and spiritually being meaningless and as such there are no set "rules" because the very idea of being nihilist suggests the rules dont matter, i really dont get where youre coming from on that one....
@Taud you sound more like an Existentialist than a Nihilist. You say you're a Nihilist, and if you were consistent in that, you'd find no meaning in anything. What's the point in listening to music? What's the point of commenting on this video? Or responding to my comment? I don't want to argue, really I don't. Just want to know what's going on. If you feel more comfortable taking this conversation in private, feel free to PM me.
@Zimouskii it doesnt work that way, its a philosophical view not a belief structure like religion for instance you think it to the extremes of some kind of rules which put a negative view on everything its a little more complex, i wouldnt want to pm i was here to discuss how i was impressed with the band, it sounds like youre describing someone with clinical depression rather than a philosophers viewpoint, you can read further into it online if you need more clarification im no philosophy prof
They just do not do Christion Rock like they used to...This band rocked then and will forever...Everything today is all the same but this is rockin in Jesus name at its best!
its pretty sad when people in these comments feel they need to use foul language to talk or type or text. Christianity doesnt need that kind of talk to get its message across.
Dude, Petra are the pioneers of christian rock. Certainly one of my favorite christian bands ever. What ever happened to good christian music like this? why does it all have to be so generic these days?
Years ago I thought Petra were lame but man was I wrong. This cd is killer! And I love this singer, he has a pure rock voice. This band is Highly underrated.
@MrJESSROX They are not underrated! They are definetly noobs, Petra is very much pioneers of christian rock and has accomplished much that others could only dream of! But hey are not underated, cause much people know them and like them! On some of their song here on you tube they have almost half a million views! Perhaps one might say that they are underrated in the secular arena, but that is to be expected maybe.
I my self grew up on thier music as a kid, before I got into heavier stuff : )
@conundrumcrux I meant highly underrated to be as a compliment. they should be way more popular. in the christian rock realm and the sucular realm as well, imo. they are very good and I myself under estimated how good they were for years I blew them off, and now I am like ''what was I thinking? these guys rock'' This album Jekyl and Hyde is straight up metal.
@CalebTheGatekeeper i totally disagree, the skill involved in the lyrics and music writing is way more complex in secular music, listen to dream theater, symphony x, avenged sevenfold etc.... you'd be ignorant to read some of dream theaters lyrics and tell me this is more creative.I'm a Christian and i like all types of music from dream theater to rihanna to bb king to slayer.
the apostle paul said " in my flesh dwell no good thing " and also called himself the chief of sinners.
