They both look similar but riptape is different; it grips really well and feels different than craft store foam. Foam tape USUALLY sucks. Either use griptape or a riptape like material- riptape, fbs, foamy goodness, flex tape. The latter aren't that expensive- you can get them from no comply.

shit i used a knife my grip came out way better and smother cut away edges and its nice and is it looks llike it was made to be perfectly pre cut on the board so go ahead use a knife as long as u know what youre doing =)
