Hi, i am Ellen from Holland and the first Omnipod user in North Netherland. I am very glad to may use this Omnipod and sinds then sooooooo happy. It works very good and the result are great. Next year Omnipod hase n new model that all patient gonna get. It will be smaller and lighter... Great news... I am very enthousist about this system and my life is much better.
Very nice of you to go on camera to do this, and show us how, but I have 2 critiques: 1) When filling any type of syring with insulin, it is ALWAYS >AIR TO AIR<; you do NOT push air through the insulin; and
2) I would have liked to have seen, and what I was looking for, was a better description of removing the needle cover. I do not know what kind of 'bottle cap' one can remove by just pulling it with your thumb and forefinger.
only if the god damn British NHS would do something like this. I mean i would pay the cost of the pod if the NHS would fund the insulin, but the likelihood of this in zilch! I watched a news report about a girl of around 5 years of age, in the UK, who has had type 1 diabetes for around 1-2 years. She got a tube pump, a pump non the less, as it was a postcode (zipcode) style draw. My point is, im 18 and have had type 1 since i was 17 months old and have no idea how that is fair at all :/
Thanks for the great tutorial. It's nice to see how an omnipod is used from a Diabetic (not the company videos). Sorry you have to put up with these guys who don't know the difference between Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes.
I've been thinking about getting a pump lately, just because it would be so much simpler than doing injections throughout the day... so I was wondering about how waterproof is the pod, for example, can you shower with it on? what about sweating... I am fairly active, so I'm worried that it might lose the adhesive qualities if I sweat too much...
@mason1189 Why didn't you like it? I'm nt diabetic i just think it's really brave that you can inject yourself every day because i hat emy hpvs tha i have to have and i only have to have 3 :L xx
@ntm05 Good sir, I am a diabetic because of an auto-immune malfunction. My insulin producing cells were for some reason targeted and destroyed by my immune system. It had nothing to do with my weight nor health condition for both were almost optimal. Frankly I could care less what you or Dr Fuhrman say. Going from what Doctors Mendez and Clark have told me and my family there was no way to avoid or prolong life without diabetes. Go talk to an endocrinologist; they'll tell you the same.
@aloostrom Why do you keep believing in your doctors ? don't you know how to read ? i suggest you to read The China Study maybe it will tell you why you have diabetes..it's all in your food..just read that book and ull see..doctors will prescribe you everything to make money off you..they are sellers not health advisors. The pharmaceutical business is a 13 trillion dollar industry..
@ntm05 I believe my doctors because when I see them for a regular visit I pay $20.00. My great insurance pays the rest. You ready for a shocker? A doctor DOES NOT receive money from prescriptions bought at a pharmacy. I believe my doctor because she went through 16 years of school to learn what she KNOWS. You have read books by men who write about crackpot theories.
@aloostrom you must be crazy to believe that your doctor doesn't get paid for prescription! Hi id number is written on every prescription bill so when the pharmacy process it they see which doctor prescribed it and give him a little percentage of the sale...think a little more..maybe she did 16 years but it was for the money it is worth it!
man i here that i have diabetes too im 15 years old and i was diagnosed when i was 7 munths old. i got my first pump when i was in grade 1 and well i cant get a omnipod in canada yett anyine know y?
@belskater94 I know this reply is a bit late, but the omnipod is scheduled for release in Canada at the end of this month(august)...... it's a different story to know if your insurance will cover it... :P mine sad It will only cover the medtronic paradigm..
Thank you for the video! Excellent job! I am on the Deltec Cosmo but it is no longer being sold, plus problems with its cannula. OmniPod is what my Endo Dr recommended but, I was a little concerned about it because of lack of info. Your excellent video made me feel good about the Omni Pod!
I have to change my insulin pump (a Deltec Cozmo), and I'm curious about the OmniPod. I have 3 questions:
1. Isn't the OmniPod too big to have in a... Like pocket? I have my insulin pump in the pockets on my pants. And, If you can't have it in a pocket, where should it be?
2. The cannula, can it be placed everywhere? On the butt?
3. How do you remember to always have the device with you? And, if someone have forgot it, what happened?
Thank you for the video, it makes me curious about the pump.
@Nordinini No, the PDM is like a PDA. I guess you could compare it to the blackberry curve. The pod itself is so small that you can put it almost anywhere you want to, as long as there's not a bone or something right underneath your skin (read about someone who uses their shoulder...)
For me to remember the PDM isn't hard cause i carry my cell phone with me all the time, but if you forget it, the pod still gives you your basal insulin, you just can't bolus.
I just got diagnosed as a Type 1 recently (was thought to have been a Type 2 mistakenly for the last 4 years). I am nervous and scared about using a pump system but this looks much easier then many others that I have seen. The endo I am seeing wants me to go on one and this one looks easy to use.
it's really easy to use and the insertion is awesome. I really don't think I would ever want any other pump now. The fact that the pump is also a glucometer is very handy aswell.
I am an M.D. and JohnnySeptember Is the most correct about Diabetes. The language/attitude of this topic is horrible. The CONTENT of the VIDEO is very informative. I am Type 1, and am changing to the OnmiPod and need information about OnmiPod device... not a high school education about what Diabetes is and is not.. If you have questions about Diabetes, ask the DOCTOR who prescribed your device. The "content" of the "video" showed me what I needed to see. Thats all it was intended for.
Well, if you actually did good reasearch, you would know that there are two types of diabetes. Type two is cause when you are overweight, and you usually do not have to use insulin. With type one, you could be the healthiest person in the world and live in any fucking country like your shitty Israel, and still get it.
You are so uneducated and ignorant. Learn something about type 1 iabetes before you speak! Type 1 diabetes is an auto-immune disease and has nothing to do with something you ate or did. Do your research before sounding like a complete idiot.
hi all, I have been on 2 diferent pumps currently on omnipod. While I do love the wireless feature and built in glucose meter, the only problems I ever have with it is sometimes a pod won't work or the cannula will miss and I have to use another 1. Also, I have literally sweated them off a couple times. Usually it doesn't hurt when it goes in but sometimes it does. I love that it is wireless and I have been a diabetic for almost 20 years. I was 12 @ diagnosis and now my a1c stays around 6%.
Have had type 1 for 43 years and I don't mind injecting because it keeps me alive - but this looks amazing and I like the idea of it being wireless. Saw it first on TCOYD video and found this as a recommended viewing. It adds to helping me to understand how the device works. Thank you for this information. It's really very interesting & impressive. Does anyone know if we can get this in th UK?
Thanks alot for posting this. My brother was just diagnosed with type 1 and based on research it seems this was going to be the best bet for an insulin pump. You reassured my research. Thanks again!
Really glad you uploaded this video, thank you. I was recently diagnosed with type-1 and would prefer not to be tied to using needles all of the time, so this is an attractive solution. Informative video.
I'm 27 years old, my parents are type-2 and they have a BG meter which I tested after having been weeing a lot and drinking so much water. I was at 18mmol/L and the next afternoon I was sleeping loads I couldn't find any energy but I forced myself to the shop to buy a meter, my friend ejay talked me into going to the doctors - he checked me for keytones and I had I think +4 and he had me checked into the hospital. I was sick and nearly got it over the nurse. Later was put on insulin.
Good question - how much does it cost? I have Blue Cross - Blue Shield - So I have pretty good insurance.
TETProductions - I hope you yourself or anyone in your family does not have Type 1 Diabetes or Diabetes at all - so why did you take the time to watch the video and post a stupid comment when those of us took time to watch this video for something that could potentially change lives - find something more constructive to do with your time please.
Thank you so much for this video! I have been struggling with Type 1 Diabetes since complications from a routine surgery left me with 1/2 a pancreas, no spleen, no appendix, and no gallbladder! I got the OmniPod Dem Pod in the mail the other day and I can't wait to show it to my doctor! He was worried about other pumps because of the complication of it all - I am going to take my laptop to my doctors appointment and show him your video! This is going to change my life - Thank you!
does it hurt when the cannula is inserted? someone please tell me cuz i think i might get the omnipod so im just trying to figure out as much info as possible.
Does the omnipod have settings to where you can correspond your blood sugars to how much insulin that it delivers? and also can the meter carb count for you like the onetouch ultrasmart?
I currently have a minimed paradigm 722 that you use the quickserter to insert the canula but it also goes in with a needle & and you discard the needle afterwards, how exactly is the canula going in if there is no needle?
If you look around the edge of the needle before you inject you can see the canula around it and when you take it out you can see it is not there so voila
You said that the pump can be kept on for 3 days, is that the maximum amount of days? You also inserted 200units, what if you need more (sorry, i don't know much)? Do you get pods in like a pack? If so, how many do you get in one package? Or do you have to buy them separately?
Anyways, I hope they find a cure for all the diabetics. I don't have it, but I can see how hard and time-taking it is.
And what happens is a plastic tube is placed into the under skin, and when a dose is injected into the body, it is done so through the plastic tub that is in the skin already. No Pricks, No Pain.
@rockinhottie33 OMG how sad for him he has to take 10 minutes not even out of his day when kids in AFRICA have to take 4 hours out of there day just to get fresh water and i do have diabetes and its not that bad he was born with a golden spoon in his mouth
***I wear a paradigm pump and cut a small hole in the top, inside of both pockets of all the pants I wear. I make it big enough so the round part of the infusion set can fit through. So, I put the pump in my pocket and pull the round tubing part through the hole and attach it to my stomach. The extra just sits in my pocket or hangs inside of my pants. No one ever sees the pump or the tubing. And, no one has ever commented on the holes.***
I have been a diabetic for some time now and use a pump similar to this one. Most of us have been giving ourselves injections for so long that the insertion of the needle is not that bad... It's less painful than pricking my finger for the accu check. This vid is great and very educational to anyone who has considered an insulin pump
That is an awesome way to manage diabetes. I was a diabetic for 17 years, and used needles the entire time. I got a transplant, so I'm not insulin dependent anymore, but I will say this... if you are a diabetic, TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF!!!
LOL!!!! "I put tape on it so you don't haev to stare at an ugly old nipple." thanks for showing this, I've been thinking about a pump but i don't want the tube so i wanted to learn more about this.
im really glad for that video that someone thinks about others because my son is 1 and a half and he has type 1 diabetes but i cant give him that pump yet he will just take it off..but i think in the future when he is older its way easier than having to inject yourself 4 times a day...so thank you for sharing that and i hope they find cure for diabetes so it makes people's lives who know how it feels abit easier.
hi im john i have had diabetes for 4 yrs now and its hard being 14 and wanting to go parties go dirt bikeing wit my friends for the day but i am useing the medtronic not the omnipod and i counting down the days till the insurance will pay for a new pump and im getting the omnipod thanks for showing wat it can do and how to use it thanks john
Um..can i ask u question ..If u use the Omnipod so u have 2 prick ur finger n have injection?..or is it jst usin the Omnipod?!..Plz tell! Give me a message : )
Poor nick J? He's got it lucky and can afford high technology like this. I get to do 6 shots a day minimum like millions of other type one diabetics. Nick J just has a soft little tube coming out of this little pod and has to change it every 3 days.
i was wondering how it was used..and the process seem sooo long..but i guess after you get use to it its not that bad. i guess anything is better than needles all the time. thanks for posting this. i always had that question in my mind...i think the omini pod is great
Is it painful at all?

bugsyy73 2 years ago
Does the omnipod have settings to where you can correspond your blood sugars to how much insulin that it delivers? and also can the meter carb count for you like the onetouch ultrasmart?
I currently have a minimed paradigm 722 that you use the quickserter to insert the canula but it also goes in with a needle & and you discard the needle afterwards, how exactly is the canula going in if there is no needle?
fuctupbby07 2 years ago
If you look around the edge of the needle before you inject you can see the canula around it and when you take it out you can see it is not there so voila
Qmara91 2 years ago
so what happens when it snaps? does it pprick you or what why do you have to clean the site
PinkGlitter724 3 years ago
can you play hockey with that thing without it breaking or falling off?
what happens if it breaks when you hit something?
do you have a lower chance of getting hypos? im just curious
daaalex 3 years ago
I don't have diabetes but I'm very fascinated.
God bless.
kimmmmm04 3 years ago
i also don't have diabetes but all i know is the pod is like a pack went u order or buy it . it have about a year supply in a package of omnipod .
jojoluv976 2 years ago
can you shower with it.
And I don't get how the stuff gets in your body. Something like pricks you?
tweakersholiday 3 years ago
Yes, you can shower with it.
And what happens is a plastic tube is placed into the under skin, and when a dose is injected into the body, it is done so through the plastic tub that is in the skin already. No Pricks, No Pain.
pling501 3 years ago
im typ 1 and i LOVE useing that thing its A LOT easier than pricking my self 12 times a day cause my sugar was like 756 so yea
ashleytisdale101p 3 years ago
im type 1 and right now im between choosing staying with needle or get a insulin pum.p
optimasprime101 3 years ago
if i am you i would choose insulin pump coz u do not need to take to many injection a day . just one every 3 days (not including checking BG ).
jojoluv976 2 years ago
It's not about the shots. It's about the tight control. But remember, pumps work only as well as you use them.
mpmcd81 2 years ago
You place it up really high...why?

type1diabetes 3 years ago 2
Im geting one in a few months. But i heard it falls off a lot, is this true?
Nickjluvur 3 years ago
well , the first month i had some trouble with it, just getting used to it and not hitting it on this !
i out it on my stomach and on my hip . sometimes my arm . haha .
well , the day your changing the pod . you want to take your shower than change it . then the next day wait late to take a shower . so yeah .
and it WON'T fall of . but i had to get used to not hitting it against things. i love putting it on my stomach though, that's where i normally put it.
hope i helped !

And, no one has ever commented on the holes.***

halfcab360 3 years ago
I have been a diabetic for some time now and use a pump similar to this one. Most of us have been giving ourselves injections for so long that the insertion of the needle is not that bad... It's less painful than pricking my finger for the accu check. This vid is great and very educational to anyone who has considered an insulin pump
KdogTN 3 years ago
sooo, it inserts a little needle, and that's what delivers the insult? right?
ooh, this vid is very educational! :)
beatriz0607 3 years ago
i meant insuline!
beatriz0607 3 years ago
That is an awesome way to manage diabetes. I was a diabetic for 17 years, and used needles the entire time. I got a transplant, so I'm not insulin dependent anymore, but I will say this... if you are a diabetic, TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF!!!
badsamdalamda 3 years ago
are you a type 1 or 2?
onelove897 3 years ago
I was type one. My transplant was a kidney/pancreas. Both work, so I don't take insulin anymore.
badsamdalamda 3 years ago
wow- must be a relief. the shots drive me crazy. the transplant is something to look into tho- thanks!
onelove897 3 years ago
Thank you soo much for making that video! I'M THINKING OF GETTING the omnipod so thanks!

im really glad for that video that someone thinks about others because my son is 1 and a half and he has type 1 diabetes but i cant give him that pump yet he will just take it off..but i think in the future when he is older its way easier than having to inject yourself 4 times a day...so thank you for sharing that and i hope they find cure for diabetes so it makes people's lives who know how it feels abit easier.

VanessaHfan4Life 3 years ago

it's not a choice. i think the Omnipod is actually better than the other pumps. it's more portable.
NickJBluver22 3 years ago
Like you do not have to put a needle in your skin. Like on th eold pumps, u have too keep a needle in ure skin.
JonasBrotherFanLover 3 years ago

The poking your fingers everyday hurts. The insulin needs are actually less painful

omg. i could never handle having a needle everyday. poor Nick J. =[
browneyedgal27 4 years ago 5
Poor nick J? He's got it lucky and can afford high technology like this. I get to do 6 shots a day minimum like millions of other type one diabetics. Nick J just has a soft little tube coming out of this little pod and has to change it every 3 days.
Spbeyond 4 years ago 5
true that
norcalsk8er9 4 years ago
actualy its 2 or three a day and then you have to prick your finger t or 3 times
tashmaria170 3 years ago
you forgot to clean the vial ! youll get diseases!
ranmisael 4 years ago
i was wondering how it was used..and the process seem sooo long..but i guess after you get use to it its not that bad. i guess anything is better than needles all the time. thanks for posting this. i always had that question in my mind...i think the omini pod is great
NaturalBeauty86 4 years ago
do you find the pod awkward at all? it just looks bulky- do you feel limited on where you can put it because it is so large?
