  • this is basic chess

  • shut up dude

  • This guy stole my instruction lecture! How dare you sir. Get your own windmill lecture!

    Yours truly,

    Daffy Duck

  • No, the bishop makes the check; not the rook.

  • King has to move because it is in check.

  • @BrainGuy45 No, the king was in check. If the king did not move, black would of lost the game. Therefore the king must move before the queen could.

  • no, bishop on f6 is checking King

  • sweet

  • Well, somebody doesn't act his supposed age.

  • Seconded.

  • whydid you never take the a pwan aswell?

  • You mean the a-pawn? That opens up the file, so it's not worth the material.

  • look at the starting positon.. how do u get the rook to g3? its seems like a total unlikley positon. But the principle of the windmill is good - often used by good old Fritz ;-)

  • Not sure, since I don't know the moves of the game. My best guess is a rook lift, probably f1-e1-e3-g3, or something like that.

  • I learn something every day!

  • nice, but as chessjock said it might be quite hard to get to. still a very nice tactic.

  • nice, but as chessjock said it might be quite hard to get to.

  • Dam I love the windmill. Thanks for the video.

  • Dude cool material, I only can suggest to you, about getting a tripod for your phone or camera, it's kind of confusing and really distracting too much camera movement. thx for the demo any ways.

ICC = internet chess club? mmm not idea

  • One of the worst tactics you can use in modern chess, I advise all viewers to dismiss this as beginner stuff that should be overlooked.

  • Is it really that bad? One was a GM game, and I'm sure that the tactic would be effective in the (very rare) cases where it can be used.

  • Look I am a very high rated chess coach this tactic, as it was played in the game you talk about, was not something that could be replayed, the position is rare and even rarer is that a game would end up where it would allow for such a tactic to be used. The basic ones are:

    -Discovered check

    -double attack/check

    -pins/skewers

what is played here is an impulse tactic, a tactic that is played and based on the current position that a player is inspired to play, a sequence was seen is all.

  • Ah, I see what you mean.

  • I wanted to apologize for being rude in my older posts as well, I'm sorry.

  • Nah, no hard feelings.

  • hey meet me on the icc so i can put a whooping on any of you nerds

  • ICC? I've never heard of it.

  • After the last move on the right hand side, it wasnt check mate at all, was it?

  • No checkmates, just material gain.

  • nerd

  • @zanderfool

What kind of moron are you?! This is VERY important to some people. If you have to call someone a "nerd" it should be me. I play dungeons and dragons AND chess.

  • Thanks for the advice

  • thanks for the tip,i got a chess tournament coming up and this was very useful, lol.

  • He sounds like Screech from saved by the bell

  • your lisp makes me want to staple my tongue to a razorback quilboar

  • This is situational at best. Yes, the combination between rook and bishop is often used, but, your example isn't that good. My apologies.

  • Cool,i never thought of that combo

  • @DAtNizzaYOuKnOw

He didn't "think" of this, this is an old tactic.

  • i hate it when this happens to me. i downloaded chessmasters on my phone and when it looks like i'm going to win i get milled.... now i know what it is called. YAY!

  • Wow, I use the windmill tactic all the time and never knew the name of it.

Also you could have taken the pawn at A7 before taking the queen. That way you would have been one more piece up. BUT! taking that pawn gives the rook more space to move and so depending on how close to Checkmate you are can mean not taking it is good too.

  • keepgoingneverstop.... your an idiot, and the reason us Americans think Europe is full of a bunch of assholes

  • lol the windmill? thats like for 1500's ,and this guy sounds like the white erkel, giving chess players bad image

  • look man when the bishop moves to set up the windmill the rook puts the black guy in check.. so he cant move his queen and take the whites queen.. yeah?

  • Hmm... Got to try that the next time i play chess. Thanks man.

  • That fails pretty badly. But then again, American education needs to be seriously revised (no offense of course).

  • I'm not offended. I agree completely. In California (where I live), the High School Exit Exam tests 12th graders on 9th grade material, and about a third of high schoolers are passing... and the school boad considers this a massive success.

  • look all i said is that you sound like a nerd i dont care if i carnt spell i am proud to be british and as u say that in our school they dont cover the basics how come the is and has been loads of intellergent smart british people like: steven hawkings, iasac newton, dalwin, shakespear,jk rowling, charles darwin, thomas edison, winston churchel, alexander graham bell, marie curie and many more we allso have oxford universaty and cambridge so i think that briton's education is doing quite well

  • Did I say anything about Britain's education? All I said was that I doubt you are in the top set. And as you are proud to be British and a bad speller, I am proud to be American and intellectually superior.

  • the onlly reason that ur "intellectually superior" is that u have not got anything ells to do no mates to go out with no girls that like you oh and by the way intelligence is not the most important thing in the world is it spelling is not the most importent thing eever if mankind is to go anywair in the futer we should help echanuther not fight and argue so i am saying letts stop arguing about spelling ok?

  • Sure.

  • Lol I just had to leave a comment here. I have heard a hell of a lot of stories about dumb Americans (not only on tv/internet), but retards are everywhere (as KeepGoingNeverStop proves).

btw Dutch education system is better :D

  • From the stories I've heard, China's system might be better. Apparently, an A in America is a D in China.

  • I'm English and I'm with pleasekillthetoy. So what how he sounds!? I'm getting back into chess after a 10 year lapse and this was a useful tip. Thanks :) keep it up

  • marie curie was french/polish and lived in france. way to not know what you're talking about. and so granted you have oxford and cambridge... we have harvard, yale, princeton, MIT, Stanford, Cal Tech, UC-Berkely, northwestern, and the selection process into the United States Military Academy at West Point is insane. you have to get a recommendation from your senator just to even be considered, and if you have anything less than a 4.0 and near perfect SAT's, they will toss your application aside.

  • i shall say a gain nnneeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrdddddddddddd u sound like 1 ov those people who gets a nose bleed after laughing too much!

  • And you sound like someone who spells worse than a second grader. Two can play at the insult game.

  • 1 im british so i don't "spell worse than a second grader" because in britain we dont have grades we have sets(in wales anyway)i am in the top set for all of my lesons 2an insult is not a game is it? why would i wont to play a game with a ameracain nerd? i think u r 1 of the people who give usa a bad name 3 in youre comment you hinted that i was stupid by the way i am proberlly better than you at scince(dippends on how old you are)1 more thing how many mates hav u got? proberly no more than 10

  • If you are really in the "top set," then you probably (note: it's not spelled "proberlly") wouldn't write or spell like you do, unless the top set didn't cover basic capitalization and spelling. The "insult game" is a figure of speech, referring to what we are doing now. I don't give the US a bad name; you're thinking of politicians. From your typing patterns, I doubt that you could comprehend algorithms, quantum physics, or integrals. And, of course, I have fewer than 10 fornication partners.

  • cool

  • Pretty good video illustrating a tactical concept, might want to use some more solid camera work there though. Also you can ignore certain blowhards who make videos straight from chessmaster yet call other people noobs.

  • nerrrrrrrrrrrrrrdddddddddddd you sound like 1

  • Rxa7 + first before Rb7, with a windmill you grap everything you can , including pawns.

  • Rxa7 + was fine in the first game, but in the second white's pawn on a2 would have been attcked and black has counterplay on the open file, that is why Lasker did not take it.

  • you don't need to take everything, another principle, "sometimes less is more".

  • you do not know anything, you repeat the same noob concept over and over again. You really must be a noob, go play checkers.

  • ... Right... The first position was on a website I found, and the second one was from an actual game between two masters. The "same noob concept" that you're talking about was repeated simply because it's just that effective in the first position, and because those moves were made in the actual game in the second position.

  • I did search the orgins, and it is still a beginner set up compared to me and my students.

  • ty for this
