  • U2 (L)

  • i like !!! ;)

  • Ha, I stayed up until 3:30 am to hear this... Fecking timezones...

  • People don't get the metaphors. This is a great song. I mean a song by the 22 grammy award winning, an icon to the music business.... let's admit it, U2 are legends in the music industry. Even if they go away, they would always be remembered. A band with a conscience and social awareness. Wow. Only a few bands have the glory that they hold. They're in the history books. Get On Your Boots, great song.

  • its class but i thik achtung baby is their best album

  • How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb's their best! :D

  • this song is cool=)

  • i luv this song :) im goim 2 there concert this yr :)

  • A perfect album my favorite is Unknown Caller # 4, but also number 3, 5, 2, 1 and 10, I forget 6 get on your boots now. I can stop listening # 4 amazing chorus and lyrics.

  • I wish they would return to their joshua tree days.

This new stuff sounds less captivating!!!

  • What a bunch of toadies you people/sheeple are.

  • whats sheeple?

  • At first, I really disliked this song. I decided to give it a chance though because I thought it might have been a grower. I think I was right. I actually kind of like this song now and am excited for the new album.

  • The album sounds amazing!! my top favorites are Unknown Caller, Magnificent, Moment of Surrender, Fez, NLOTH and Breathe. It is really an interesting album!

  • Where did you get the album early??

  • I am a subscriber to U2 and they have released the entire album online for us to listen to! I've listened to it like 20 times now! You will not be disappointed! Fez, Unknown Caller, Magnificent, Breathe and Moment of Surrender, will be automatic favorites for you, I guarantee it! Boots sound nothing like the other songs, not even close, not that this is a bad song, its just not epic material.

  • A subscriber? That's odd. Bono is a tool.

  • @bloodystump3 fuck u

  • @FierceEcho where can I sub to U2?

  • I think this album is a big return to form for U2.

  • DUCK!!! here come my boots and the're flying toward bono

  • ok if i was was u2 i`d probs be in tears or something by now if u dont like it dont listen 2 it anyway like any of u could do better

  • wats dis song about??????

  • oh dear, bono go away, that song is shite.

  • it sux

  • yup heres ma boots am going rubish bono still aint bettered j tree

  • I think this is a good song . . . of course from U2 you would expect always the best . . . and it's not easy to create something really new in rock music . . . but this song is full of energy entering in your mind the first time you hear it . . . I think this is why they chose it as first single . . . and I'm sure that in this album there are other songs a bit less commercial and not so immediate but more beautiful

  • no,its shit man.

  • Yeah the more I hear this the more I hate it

  • Amen brother.

  • I cannot put into words my utter disappointment when I first heard this, pure and utter garbage. Here's hoping that the rest of the album is better.

  • superfitial, uncatching... they tried to make a second Actung Baby, but it sounds more like Pop... I agree, U2 are the gratest, but now I guess just a great market investigation -people want electro-rock, let's make it! - again. Cash insteed of creativity is not a good way...

  • U2 are the greatest band today..this is a great song, it shows their variety i their musical styles.

  • i listened to the show that time! i luv jim jim!

  • WOW, they change a lot!!!

it's not bad, but... strange from U2

  • Brilliant track, absolute class...Desperate? Muck?, if that's what you're looking for you should listen to the Artic Monkeys.

  • You can all say how much you don't like it or love it, but that's what makes it great. Probably most of these posters will still ram out $100's to go see them live anyway! Happy bashing. I like it!

  • This is desperate. Absolute generic dross.Saw them as a 16 year old in 1984 for the first of nine times till 2005. Just realised U2 are actually quite shit. Very disappointing

  • hahaha girls aloud come calling dermot

  • slow learner.

  • Muck. Mass produced generic muck... very disappointing.

  • great, raw guitars! love it!!!

  • Don't like it. I really don't think it's sounds remotely like a U2 song :(

  • yeah, but that's what they said about pop in the u.s., and that was a great album. great tour as well...

  • no it was their worst album, bono even said so

  • come on guys no response? this is pure plagiarism. i know its hard to come up with a new sound after so many albums and songs but if i wrote wild wild west i would be calling a good lawyer. god knows they probably need the money by now!

  • back in 1989 I had 17 years old, old enough today to remember Scape club lonely hit ever...probably the band that has won more grammys than any other act, 30 years in the showbiz needs to say: "...ok, lets do that 'Wild west' song, just lest's change the lyrics' good idea!..."...now back to your regular stuff, thanks.

  • brill song

  • First of all..lets clear all the crap about this being U2 and how they've been doin this for over 25 years..if this were a bunch of lads in a garage who were trying to break into the business?.?.. i don't think so......

  • the song this reminds you of is wild wild west by escape club

  • I'm a HUGE U2 fan and for the first time, I am disappointed with their intro track to their new album. The song sounds lost, especially with Edge's random guitar riffs. It sounds like a beginner guitar player trying to figure out what an E chord is.

  • sexy boots, get on your boots!

  • This song just get better with every listen, really a grower...excellent.

  • I've seen the new video already! they look like they are in space and there are lots of graphics in the background! Bono with no shirt on towards the end of the video! lol

  • sounds like old school u2 great !

  • U2 are the greatest band in the world...25 years and they are still relevant...Even the fabulous rolling stones were stale after, what 15-17 years?

We shall see. It is possible to grab practically any album from the U2 catalogue and enjoy it. How many other bands can make that claim?

  • Wow, is it just me or did everyone jump on the bandwagon of "it's new, so it must be shit"? The pop-rock lovers go "this isn't Vertigo!", and the music snobs go "this is upbeat", and so both noisy minorities end up badmouthing it, when it is, in fact, a decent listen, quite funky, first single obviously going to be a bit more disposable and poppy than most of the others, but hey, when you've been at the top of the music business for 20 years, you know how to play the market.

  • Irish Dj Dave Fanning has listened to the new album and has said the album will be HUGE!!! The album is diverse. Not all the songs will sound like this one. U2 are successful because they change their sound and image every few years instead of other bands that recycle their musical riffs like AC/DC. U2 are the greatest band in the world and deserve to be.

  • I think you said it best here..There's only one u2 and i love them..U2 saved my life..Chris..

  • Not nearly as awful on the second listen as the first.

Decent song. Throwaway single, still, like Vertigo. Hopefully the rest of the record is much better (and I'll bet it will be).

  • Im a U2 fan and this is sh*t. Sorry. Instead of going into the studio, assembling some sh*t and leaving, try writing the songs, then going to the studio and recording them.

  • Check out this song and then Velvet Revolver's 'She builds quick machines'. Very similar start.

  • Some people are too quick to try jump on 'the it's crap' bandwagon, fair enough that it took a few listens to this song to really get into it, but it is a great track, last time they played in Dublin they sold out Croke park 3 times at 240,000 tickets and I am sure if they could have had a 4th show that would have sold out too, they are an excellent band and their success will continue for a long time

  • From a melodic point of view, it is less of a "quick fix" like their karaoke-friendly songs from the last 2 albums... TO MY GREAT PLEASURE. Sorry for all those pop lovin simple minded people, but please open your horizon and listen closely to the amazing rhythmic section, the strange back vocals, the over saturated bass and guitar, the electronic minimalist sounds... this is U2 tired of kissing american radios formatted ass, and succeeding at exploring artistically. A new achtung baby? FINALLY!

  • Here here!

  • thank you for reading my mind!

  • wow! those lyrics really blow my mind. and that music is just so good! YEAH RIGHT. u2 have some good songs. but they have a hell of a lot of shit one's and thgis ismost definitely one of them. But they get so much HYPE, yes ladies & gentlemen,HYPE, that a lot of people say these songs are good because those who know say so. But this is just my opinion, and I'm not forcing you to agree with it. So to summarize: This song is TERRIBLE. If hell existed & i was there this would be on repeat. Arrrgh!!

  • Fools! Watch the sales, including concert sales, proove all you negatives pathetically wrong! I know it'll be played 20 years from now. Crap music dies quickly not the good stuff.

  • U2 Rocks. Really. And people... what was so wrong with Vertigo? I think it was great. I will admit it isn't like the classic U2 but when you try and compare the CLASSIC U2 with the new stuff of course you are going to be a little put off, because it isn't a CLASSIC SONG, its a NEW SONG. Like everyone else has said, give it time, and eventually you will realize its glory. GET ON YOUR BOOTS!!!

  • Vertigo was just a cash seeker, and the same happens to this made-for-success song. Gosh, to think the beautiful and meaningfull songs these guys have produced...

  • A new Vertigo??!! I didn't like the original one let alone another 4 years after...

  • just wait, the first single is always crap

  • trash

  • absolute rubbish. retire already

  • I love it!! it's different

  • This rocked!

  • I've been a U2 fan since their birth. Believe me, I get that they will "continue to abuse their position and fuck up the mainstream..." And I love when they take things sideways and through different corridors. And I subscribe to the fact it usually takes a few hundred listens before their music gets fully in the bloodstream...

But this is hard to buy so far. Perhaps its because I drank the Bono Kool Aid - for the first time - and thought this record was headed for White Album territory...

  • u2 have done this since day1 fuck with your expectations!!bravo

  • The more I listen the more I like the music; and the more I listen the more I detest the lyric.

Adam & Larry are the highlights.

  • rockets at the fun fair satan loves a bomb scare but he wont scare you!!!!

  • Oh no! Vertigo part II..

    Throwaway completely...

They should call it a day...

  • Heard this first yesterday and thought what the f**k. Second listen today and already it's begining to grow on me. I'm a big U2 fan so will try and keep an open mind. This isn't the first time they've caught us all off gaurd.

  • this song is shite what happend u2

  • U2 have created a NEW sound with this album...EDGE said it has a strong Morocan/Middle Eastern influence.......of course its DIFFERENT...it would be stupid if it sounded the same as everything else!! GIVE IT A CHANCE TO RESONATE........

REMEMBER....THE FLY???? Everyone was like WTF? and then it was acclaimed by critics & fans alike....likewise with the whole album ACHTUNG & ZOOROPA!

AND to all the (so called) longtime U2 fans on here posting SHITE remarks...gimme a break...tisk!

  • you can tell who it is frm the pic. frm left Larry ,Bono that bass dude and the Edge.: D

  • umm no...its edge, adam, bono, then larry...good try tho

  • yeah it does take a few listens. naturally such a successful band with such longevity are going to have its critics and i have been one of them . but this song has somethin i tink

  • it definitely grows on you. i never really warmed to vertigo, but this is a complete improvement. there's no way you can say they aren't still expanding their sound. still a class act

  • sounds like pump it up by elvis costello

  • not really alot different to vertigo in my opinion

i think its a great song really catchy and the more times you listen to it the better it gets.

  • Oh no! Vertigo part II..

    Throwaway completely...

They should call it a day...

  • Well I'm such a U2 fan I couldn't be truly objective anyway . . . but I must say i dig it. Larry is just killing it on this track. I agree with alot of the comments here. U2 takes multiple, multiple listens before they really catch hold. I miss alot of the ethereal, other worldly, haunting U2 sounds and lyrics, but you can tell the guys had fun recording this. Bravo.

  • A question for all of you.... What do you think of Bono's vocals on this song? Don't you all think they are extremely high pitched? I expected him to sing much lower, especially after hearing Window in the Skies. What do you all think?

  • don't you remember Lemon??? you cant get higher than that!!

  • Its a great song its called experimenting for those who dont understand there looking for a new sound understand?

  • Same here...1st time I listened to it...I was " well...what to think about it ?good, bad ?"...guys, believe me you HAVE to listen to it several times and U'll fall for it ! ...are they back to this sound they had in Achtung baby ? ...well , once again ...we won't teach them anything...they rock..

  • I totally agree, same thing as "The Fly" and Achtung Baby, your not sure at fist, then it grows on you!!

  • My first reaction was mixed. I love the raw guitar sound. The lyrics were kind of silly and I though that it could have been mixed better. Overall, if the rest of the album has a a harder rock feel, I will be happier. I thought "How To Dismantle an Atomic Bomb" was a letdown.

  • can hear a bit of pump it up by elvis costello on this, have a listen to both, anyone else notice.good track..

  • I say this with a heavy heart as I love U2...but it is a very poor song. Have U2 had their day...?

  • to all of you who hate this song upon first listening to it, i know how u feel, i was the same way,i told myself "self, no matter how many times u listen to this stupid song it will never sound remotely good" but now i luv it!!! its awesome!!!

  • i cant beleive i wrote a comment in here the other day bagging this song....what an idiot....i take that comment back...this song is soo good, i cant stop playing it now

  • ok...yep, ive listened to it another 20 times....awesome song!! i luv it !!!!!!!! this song is going to the top!!! and its gonna be another u2 classic! cant wait for the album!!!

  • ok its slowly growing i ve gone from hating it to liking it...loving it should come next after another 20 or so listens

  • why?why did they release this a s a single?it sounds so weak..distorted, and the chorus sounds incomplete!u2 are my fav band and im gonna keep listening to this song and force myself to like it.

  • haha which is usually pretty easy to do with U2. They always grow on ya.

  • dissapointing

  • Man This A Mint song. I Love U2 I Love This Song It Different And Catchy.

  • They really blow!!! This is the opinion of a former fan. This sucks so bad!!! What a holier than thou he is, Bono Vox for the people who remember that self appointed title. The edge (:-P) needs to grab a cane and reel this guy off the stage.

  • u2 live are as close to heaven as ill get,

they keep puting out the songs

no other band was done it like they have, classic after classic, how do they pick a set live!!!!!!!!!!!!

when its all over our kids will be watching U2like we ve watched the beatles

  • They have to do singles like this now to cloud the fact that Bono's voice is going to shit.

  • very catchy the more you hear it !!

  • hahaha thanks... i was looking for a positive comment.

  • dave fanning from ten to ten to two

  • I wasn't sure about this one at first, but dammit, after a few listens it grows on you. The "you don't know how beautiful you are" hook got me. I just downloaded it from iTunes and it will be a welcome addition to my library. Been a fan for over 26 years and they still don't disappoint!

  • my answer to "twochordcool"....I'm a party ruiner?i'm just saying my opinion i don't think Bono is gonna cry or never sing anymore for my comment......SAS & KBEM

  • bono has such unique and powerful voice.

  • Larry Mullen Jr. and the Larry Mullen Band are going to KILL THIS in concert!

  • search for this single on here with the words "fools and horses". I didn't realise U2 had ripped off Del Boy!

  • u2 rock but this is too repetitive even according to Brad Pitt

  • Lixo, trash, basura... eso no es U2... sólo marketing de malo gusto...

  • dont like Bonos voice on this

  • what a song they are back again its brill the bass sound is amazing!!!! its something different like they said they would do. it will be brill live...cannot wait for the album i heard that its going to be one of there best hope so but all u2 alnums have been amazing like them since 1984....great song great band SEXY BOOTS!!!!!!!

  • It is absolutely brilliant. I still think it sounds like them, but its definitely different at the same time. Like i'd know the edge playin the guitar ANYWHERE!!! Absolutely class boys, cant wait to get the album!!! xxx

  • Sounds so fucking great

  • 'beeDUB75', i couldn't disagree with your opinion more. I've heard GOYB a few times now and it's most definitely a grower. The band said it themselves, that they were going for a different sound (which they've done). This single is electro-rock and excellent.

  • I will tell you in one word what I think about each U2's records: Boy : Speedy October : Lost War : Edgy Unforgettable Fire : Magnificent Joshua Tree : Brillant Rattle and Hum : Cool Achtung Baby : Impossible Zooropa : Crazy Pop : Heavy All That You...: Sweet How To Dismantle...: Nice No Line on The Horizon : Unknown
  • I agree completely, people are coming to a conclusion about the album way too early. This could possible be their best one ever, and I highly doubt it would be the worst.

  • tj2691: yours is the typical responsive of the blinded fool. taking sides. you idiot. youre playing the game. taking the side of the 'good guy' obama. he will be worse than bush becuse his mas acceptance will let him away with much more. its so ovious if you take off your blinkers. im not left or right. i look at the big picture. you are a sheep. a slave.

  • Hi again dickhead. Obama raised the bar and standards. He is a better man than Bush. It's not in him to try to get away with anything - he wants to get this country back on track and I think the American people would be very disappointed in him, and he in himself, if he fails. K moron?

  • doesn't really excite me sadly. Hope it grows but I'm not thinking it will. Vertigo didn't.

  • It's a grower!!

  • The Stones fucking BLOW. I'd put a handful of U2 songs up against a handful of Stones songs ANY DAY.

  • Jaggers a better singer u gotta admit.

  • No I don't got to admit that.

  • I Listened to this live good song....Can some ppl plz watch my Pizza Hut Prank call and help me reach 1000 views Thanks

  • I <3 This song so much i grabbed the ringer at GetEveryRingTone . Com i freakin love that place! more 50-ish year olds should have an electric guitar and a conscience. its better than placing obscure coffee orders at star bucks and being a dick about it.

  • class

  • i liked vertigo much better when it was released. i was excited when they said the album would be different but after waiting 4 years for this im pretty disappointed. the other 10 songs should be good being the fact that they only have 10 songs on the album after 4 years

  • some of these responses strike me as strangely pre-composed. i think its another fun toss-off, like vertigo. come on, its just pop music, people! the animus against bono is a mystery to me. how his ego or his charity-work or his ego about his ego about his charity work hurts anyone is beyond me.

more 50-ish year olds should have an electric guitar and a conscience. its better than placing obscure coffee orders at star bucks and being a dick about it.

  • what! lols

  • i wish i could give you more thumbs up

  • only ok - leaves me cold - expected much more - lyrics chronic - shame

  • The lyrics are good, actually. But it's the way Bono sings it that completely drains the song of a pulse. He's not feeling it, and you can tell. But Edge's guitar is unbelievable, as always.

  • I don't Like it as much as the stuff U2 did up to and including the Joshua Tree. But it is catchy. Hopefully this new faster, slightly heavier sound, than U2 have done recently will get Larry and Bono preforming live like they used to in the 80's. I'm also intrested to see what The Edge does with this live. Adam's base will be Kickass as ever.

  • U2 fan since the Baggot inn, very one paced for U2, dissapointed.

  • this is crap

  • what complete garbage. U2 are just a marketing machine and a vehicle for Bono's height-related ego problems. Even their 'experimental' work sounds formulaic. Jesus, how embarrassing can they get..The sound of a collective mid-life crisis. And then theres the album tie-in with Obamas inauguration..so thats why they put the album release forward by a year. Bono the hypocritical, fat old man and Obama the wolf in sheeps clothing. They're gonna save the world..just like JFK and The Beatles.

  • aw your an angry little conservative aren't you. Go outside and play with guns.

  • First of all, you're a fucking moron. A Faux Noize anti U2 neocon wingnut retard. Secondly, the SOONEST U2's new album was supposed to hit the shelves was November 08, and the date change had NOTHING to do with aligning it with the new Obama administration. OK pinhead boy?

  • Hahahha! Its typical of the general American public to think that anyone who criticises Obama is a neo-con. Think about the big picture my friend. Obama is a puppet and a perfect one. Cmon..Wake Up! You and the fawning masses...idiots. Sheep. Brain dead. Brainwashed. Lulled into a false sense of security. Bush was bad but its gonna get worse. The targets wont roll over so easily this time. Wait and see. As for u2...horrible mainstream garbage. Product. Hypocrisy and designer rebellion. Waffle

  • So you would have rather had McCain? Those were our choices. And I think 55% of the US and 99% of the rest of the world are happy that it ended up being Obama. It has nothing to do with brainwashing you pinhead. It has to do with the obvious better of the 2. "Targets won't roll over"? What, are you some kind of armchair Irish asshole routing for more war from America? And call U2 what you will - they're gonna BLOW OUT the competition when all is said and done - U2 #1, any other band DISTANT 2nd.

  • Well guys....i follow U2 from the beginning....i'm waiting for the album and i'm very curious to listen Eno/lanois+U2 because i think that those producers give the best contribution to U2's best albums (unforgettable fire,Achthung Baby and on)...i think that th last singles form tha band are the continuous try form bono and Co to be on the top of I-pod generation with groovy and hook melodies....so i don't care about singles...this one is the worst ever...it's the idiot version of vertigo...

  • This is cool, Vertigo was great, and you're obviously a party-ruining pinhead.

  • Typical U2 song - at first you seem puzzled, you're skeptical, you're "indifferent" towards it - but then after the 6th or so listen you totally feel it and get it - it just falls into place!

  • Nicely worded. On the nail.

  • First listen I wasn't sure I liked it. Second time, I thought it was ok, still wasn't sure but decided to give it a chance, so I listened again- BIG. MISTAKE.

Cause now I can't seem to stop, lol. Aargh, it's just so unbelievably fun! Feels fresh and vibrant, and very exciting because usually the first single U2 releases is never one of the best on the album. Also, this song is gonna be amazing live. Cannot wait!

  • very good song sounds great will be excellent live.

  • Proabably will be live. U2 albums now sound like they are in a strait jacket. Need to get some of that live feel to their studio songs

  • This is a really unique jam! The bass lines are really groovy. Its a new direction for U2, but there's another video with a preview of the song off the album, Breathe. Thats really good!

  • New Album - DJ Dave Fanning on "U2DOTCOM" said...

Its a BIG record and I was struck by the running order, that tracks 2 (Magnificent), 3 (Moment of Surrender), and 4 (Unknown Caller) ALONE are almost twenty minutes of music. Normally you find longer songs at the end of a record, but these come BEFORE you even reach Get On Your Boots. LYRICALLY the album is more PERSONAL than usual..even for U2...its FANTASTIC!

GET ALL THE GOSSIP ON "U2DOTCOM"

  • Where can I hear Breathe on YouTube?!

  • That's probably under Pentagon lockdown!

  • thus track i the bomb its very very catchy and to be honest i cn't await the release hopefully new zealand we will get it first

good on you U2 keep it come'n

  • Not bad, not great, solid as usual. Never let it be said that their sound gets stale. So many bands release the same crap album after album. The boys are brave. Kudos for keeping it fresh. Trust me, it will grow on you. True U2 fans will stick by them, the casual fan will not and they probably never got the point anyway. Long live innovation, long live U2.

  • I agree with 'sheva056', i think this single is excellent. U2 said it themselves before this album, they've changed their sound which is different and refreshing..this song is a grower, most definitely.

  • Ok people, calm down. Everyone is getting all hurt cuz someone says one thing about the song, and they feel differently. Its called having an opinion. Grow up. And now here is my opinion: I like this song. The first time, i thought it was a different move for U2, but after hearing this song a few times, it is very catchy and new. Which is what i want a great band to do. Experiment with their music.

  • 5/5 Some of their best work. Unique.

  • I've done better!

  • 1/5
