i plan on being the next best susaphone/tuba player... remember this name (jon nouse) for in a few years he wil be dotting the I in an ohio state football game :P
I already wondered how Butterscotch manages singing and beatboxing at the same time, but how can he play a CHORD on the tuba?? Awesome, Thanks for the video!
I got inspired by this guy to make up my own beatboxing routine. It's less of a song, and more of a novelty thing. I used some of the same sounds that he did, just because they were so epic. (I can also play Baadsvik's Fnugg quite well.) I'll try to upload videos of that stuff eventually. (I'm pretty much a celebrity in my school now that people have heard me play it.)
@undiscokidd42 multiphonics, play the note and hum either higher or lower at the same time...I used to mess around and do it with my Euphonium and Baritone
I took private lessons with Dr. Micheal Forbes last semester, and I got to meet up with him this last week, and Mike and Nat are in a Tuba Quartet named Sotto Vocce. Check them out, crazy stuff. But worth listening to.
a technique called multiphonics, very difficult to learn and apply, involving the buzzing of a pitch into the mouthpiece while falsetto humming another pitch. Crazy hard.
There's also a technique where you vibrate half of your lip at one speed and the other half at another. That's what hes doing. Better sound. I know a kid who does a 5th harmony, and the third vibrates out due to the overtones, so he gets a full chord. It's crazy
Nat is not using the method you speak of. My studio had a master class with the Dallas Brass and I specifically asked this question. He is singing and playing seperately on his mouthpiece and via his vocal cords.
No problem. Up to the point when Dallas Brass come to town, I was still under the assumption he was in YoungBlood Brass band, so When I opened up the program I was pleasantly surprised.
Does anyone know how nat does that high squeaks and the dj stuff? I know he uses multi-phonics but yeahhh. this man is a total genius. who said tubas cant go high?
I'd get on the Dallas Brass website and ask (e-mail) Nat yourself. Musicians, particularly tubists) tend to be nice about questions about that stuff. I doubt it's published, though. I'd say just listen and watch his fingers, and try to write it out yourself. Good ear training practice!
i wish i could find the longer video of this stuff he plays....theres a video that is a slideshow of pics with this playing in the background can someone help me find it?
very very nice

It's not written down anywhere, I spoke to him during a masterclass at my college.
It took him about a year to perfect the skills he uses in here, but he said it took him about 15 minutes to make up the basic "warrior".
