@Henzzman Quattro is nice but BMW has x-drive. If you are going to be driving on slippery roads you should get the model bmw with x-drive. For me a set of good winter tires is enough to cope with the snow and ice. I would never trade rear wheel drive for anything else.

That is just wrong. The S4 was not meant to compete with the M3 - it was downsized in engine and lightened up for the very purpose to putting it more in line with the 335 than the m3. Cars are compared by performance, not by price my friend.

"Buy" it? For the E9x generation M3, BMW plans/hopes to produce 100,000 over the 6 year run. The B7 RS4 had a total production over its 2-3 year production run of 10,000 - of which only about 2.5k were distributed to the US.
quattro GmbH is a private subsidiary of Audi Automotive Group. They have their own manufacturing facility in Neckarsulm and < 1000 employees who build the RS line cars - of which they used to only build 1 model at a time. Now R8 got its own plant & TTRS is built by Audi.
look, in this world, the market dictates almost everything.
quattro GmbH remains small because the mass market (demand) doesn't need it to become as big as BMW's M GmbH.
If there's a overwhelming profit to be made, do you really expect the VolksWagen group to say, "well, we're not going to expand quattro GmbH anyways."

I have driven the 335i, it's a nice car. I haven't the chance to drive the S4 yet. So I won't comment on handling between the two. However, I prefer the S4's styling both inside and out.

The new BMW 5 Series lost in a comparison to the old but face-lifted Audi A6.
Plus, as a personal note, I think Audi's are the most gorgeous cars on the market. Apart from Lamborghini, which Audi owns, so it's ok.

The BMW 328 sedan defeated the Audi A4 sedan
The BMW Z4 defeated the Audi TTS
