@MrBriandd57 Actually it has everything to do with his Christianity. Because he is a Christian, his music will last for eternity. While most others their music will end soon.
@MrCopie77 You entitled to your opinion. Once, I would have said the very same thing. Christianity in general has become an exclusive club full of religious snobs. I love Phil Keaggy's music. I also love U2 and others artists without catagorizing them into a "box". Just sayin... Seems Phil Keaggy does not judge non-Christian performers either. He's jamming with some in this video!
No one ever answered the question regarding being the best guitarist by saying "Ask Phil Keaggy". All urban myth. Keaggy himself has said this many times. He doubts Hendrix even knew of him. That said, Phil Keaggy is without doubt one of the greatest guitarists around and has been for many many years. Couldn't care less if he's born again or not although one's spirituality certainly comes out in their art, regardless of what form, be it music, painting etc. Simply a joy to listen to.
You´re right, hessercb, Phil´s validation is in Christ in whom he as trusted as his Savior. I originated the comment for God´s glory, not for Phil´s and I´m sure Phil would agree.
It's annoying to hear Christians try and "stick up" for PK via Urban Myth. A combination of artists (Clapton, Hendrix, EVH, or Santa Claus) when asked how it feels to be the best guitar player in the world say, "I don't know ask Phil Keaggy"? Like Phil's someone that needs lame validation?? He walked away from the commercial music scene of the time. His choice....period. If the internet and YT were around in the 70s--different story. He was just way ahead of his time. PK is AMAZING!
As a long-time fan of Phil, I hear his licks and melodic sense like the voice of an old friend, familiar but always a welcome sound. I love this setting of a trio with no drums. This is a real treat, and my thanks to whoever posted it. BTW, let's all say a prayer for the poor soul whose eyesight is failing so badly that they accidentally hit the dislike button :)
John Patitucci played on a couple tracks from Phil's album "Getting Closer" in the mid 80's. I had wondered if they had every collaborated again since then. Good to see them playing togther now - they are amazing.
Just because you never heard of them doesn't mean they only do Christian music. Try Jazz. Ever hear of it? Patitucci is a respected Jazz fusion bassist who has recorded with just about everyone.
Nick Manson is perhaps less well known but still has gigged with an impressive array of musicians
and pf course Keaggy is perhaps the only one of the lot that mostly does 'Christian music.'
I am a fan, and know what Jamflu means. He is not in my opinion one to not overplay. I think he often does just a little too much. But I respect that when he does do too much noodling, he is also good enough to hang on to it.
Phil is a great musician if he would just play. He has got this hang up about not wanting to be a "performer" so all of his music comes out weird. I went to one his concerts years ago here in Minneapolis and he just was weird.. too bad. I have two MP3s called Blues and I'm So Happy, I think that is the name and they are very good.
Something I would keep in mind when seeing Phil is the fact that when he appears in concert, he is more times than not, alone and playing acoustic. He is doing all the lifting so to speak. I have seen him too many times to count through the years and while I have enjoyed each and every one of them, some concerts have not been as well as others. That is to be expected in my view. Especially with traveling sometimes directly to a show. It is difficult for a virtuoso to nail it every time.
phill keggy has got to be one of the best guitarist in the world ever! he is so diverse its crazy! i challenge anyone that wants to put down christian music for whatever reason to check out phill and rethink.
7:30 ...the bassist tells the guitarist "i really gotta go pee, please end it soon"...and then guitarist just laughs at him and says..."nope"...."not gonna do it!" muuaaahhh haa haaa haaaa haaaaa!!!
I have watched a lot of videos on YouTube. This is still my fave. Heck, I've probably watched it at least 100 times. This is a great example of what live music is about. I really dig the laugh of Phil towards John as the song is ending. Too cool.
Keaggy and his Les Paul! This is the first I've heard him dabble with his angelic volume control swells since the 70's -wish he'd do a lot more of it, no one is master of the swells like Phil!! All around genius playing as usual!
It is always a joy to see Phil playing electric. As good as he is on acoustic, he shines on electric. And seeing him with his old Les Paul this had to be a special occasion. Phil is an amazing player but even more incredible is that he happens to be the most humble person I have ever met.
I had no idea John Patitucci was a Christian. I was almost half-wondering, though, how that I think about it. He seems to be a very spiritual and joyful guy.

Amputation left him without a finger. Like Django, he uses what he has better than most who have all of their digits.
