  • Very good video. Just what I was looking for.

  • Very nice tutorial! Thank you for sharing! One question, sometimes when I add a new item to a photo, get it in the correct position, scale, etc., but then it stands out because the resolution of the addition is different than the original picture. How do I adjust the resolution of the pasted layer?

  • haha man hör verkligen att du är från Sverige

  • Thanks!

  • Einstein+yourself=My Grandpa

  • thank you :-)

  • Thanks very much - I'd tried to read (and understand) about layer masks without a lot of success. In less than 15min you made it all really clear.

  • You video was VERY helpful, I wish Gimp would find a UI and stick with it. I'm using 2.6.11 and it's a totally different User Interface. Nothing is docked or pops up like yours. I've only been using in a week or so now, but Your interface looks way more simple than mine. I tried to look up if it can be docked with no luck. Thanks again for the Video!

  • thanks for these very interesting tips!!!

  • One of the best tutorials available on any topic. Enselic is a natural born teacher. Thank you very much!

  • Thanks a lot man... keep it up

    watch?v=shgG4Ay2gPA

  • @BROWN4486 I'm sorry, I don't know. I am learning gimp myself. This Enselic, I think shows that in these face swap tuts. I pause at each step to learn. I've made a note of your request & if I learn it in the next few days I'll let you know. I see there are a few tuts on layers. You might try searching those. Peace

  • Niice! Thank you.

  • Thank you!!

  • Were the white parts (near your mouth and eyes) the result of a bad photograph or something else? And can the be darkened?

  • i need to know how to do it while keeping the color of the original picture please

  • Very helpful and well explained. Great tutorial. Thanks

  • Well done how-to. Really like the way you explain (and for a novice like me, introduce) several options and concepts while you are going about achieving a practical result.

  • He dont look like a retard at all! He is cute.

But ... yes he did a very funny face : P

  • i have a question.... how do u get the mask together with the 2nd layer?will it save with the mask or do u have to get the mask somehow with the 2nd layer? its a great video Enselic. im new to gimp & just learning new things to do with gimp. i didnt know this could be done but it was great.just wanna know how to get the 2nd layer together with the mask....thanks.....

  • @southsider1036

I'm pretty sure that if you want to save the mask you could just save the image as GIMP's own file format (xcf) and it will still be there when you reopen the file. If you save it as the kinds of images used on the Internet (jpeg, png and gif) it will get rid of all layers, masks, etc so it's just a plain, flat, image.

  • @Amidity

so if i did that would the new image be there or would the layers go away? i havent tried it yet but will soon. thanks amidity....

  • I have to say you made it really easy, you really explained things very well. Thanks

  • OK! Probably I would recognize you at the street;) - I was watching your movie and tried make something - wrong, but I believe tomorrow will be better. Thanks for explanation things you didn't need, but you supposed we will need it at this stage.

.-when I used "blur" it blured me all picture - at your movie only the edge- any idea? And I have problem save it as one picture - long way ahead;( and a lot of experiments- I'll come back

  • AwEsOme bUt WhY dOn'T U tRy To dO It wItH TeXT INStEaD Of u TaLkIN?

  • That was great. Thanks very much.

  • very helpful. thanks.

  • nice well explained and easy to follow

  • I was oblivious to the layer mask technique until you shared it in this video. Many thanks, it's a great way to add any element to a photo.

  • Thank you to, it helped me really much :D

  • Outstanding man, thanks alot.

  • learn the steps be professional

  • Thanks for the video, it's very clear and helpful. I just have one question though. I'm new to GIMP and image editing in general so this may be a stupid question but why didn't you just use the eraser on the new layer of your face, instead of creating a layer mask and coloring it black?

  • Glad you liked it. If I would have used the eraser, I would not have been able to do adjustments later. In theory I could do it with Edit -> Undo, but in practice that doesn't work because I might have made other changes to the image that I would not want to undo. With a layer mask I can adjust the erased part of the layer at any time. I hope that answers your question.

  • the purpose of the layer mask was to provide the smooth transition from the pasted face's to the background head's colors. exactly how? by blurring, gaussian blur radius 70, the layer mask. have you watched part 1 of this video?

  • @boysangur without doing that he couldn't have blurred the mask, so he couldn't have smoothed it.

  • its a very good information. thank you very much!

  • this was soooooo helpful thank you so much! i am a new gimp user and i had no idea about the layer mask thing. wow. that made all the difference! thanks again!

  • thank you. this was perfect for learning some gimp basics.

Please get me aout of this missery. Please reply. Anyone...Well done on the tutorial you have great talent.

  • Filters -> Distorts -> IWarp

  • Sorry it wasn't for much help could you please do a tutorial. please. thatnkyou

  • hello, at 0:54 to 0:55 you change the size of the brush without the slider in the toolbar - how do you do this?

is there a shortcut? I never discovered this one before - awesome would be the mousewheel for brush sizing - thanks in advance, david

  • Use the bracket keys i.e. [ and ]

Making the scrollwheel work for that is possible but rather non-intuitive:

in Preferences, go to Input Controllers and double click on Mouse Wheel. There you can assign actions to scroll wheel events and the actions you want to assign are tools-value-2-increase and -decrease.

  • thanks

  • ryte on i used dis 100000 times lol
