  • OMG David W. is not going to like this video ! lol.....

  • Cacao does not agree with me because of the arginine level - take lysine to balance if i eat a lot. Lysine is harder to get in the diet and easily damaged if cooked. i don't think hair mineral analysis is really needed is it - can't you just do a urine /saliva ph test to see how cacao effects your acid levels before you derange your mineral levels long term? It is very acid producing. Kevin looks too pale - was this during the low vit d period? that will whack your mineral levels.

  • Thank you.

  • thanks for the input! I liked your analysis

  • moron - first moderation in everything. second you balance your nutrients by type and need you dont just bludgeon your body with what ever you think is healthy. third everything that lives has to maintain a ph balance. you talked about what you cut out of your diet - i heard natural sugar, natural sugar, stimulant...etc wow of course you had a reaction.

  • Just because a banana might give one person a rash doesnt mean it should be avoided by all lol

  • in persons that already have perfect blood pressure i.e raw foodists. I find this video very ignorant towards cacao, as a reporter of raw food you should note more perceptions on a food, any newbe would be scared by cacao after this page, when cacao has been proven in studies to be benefical. I have some studies here, but cant past the websites; google "Cacao Polyphenols Influence the Regulation of Apolipoprotein in HepG2 and Caco2 Cells" "Effects of Low Habitual Cocoa Intake on Blood Pressure"

  • Clearly we all react differently to the foods we eat. I have been able to survive by eating only cacao each day, and suffered from too much energy. Many people report feeling tired afterwards, this could be because of the high level magnesium, which if you are a raw food person, could push the daily intake too high. If you overdose on magnesium supplements, does this mean magnesium is bad? NO! Further, the increased nitric oxide production could cause blood pressure to become too low as well

  • I did more research on raw cacao, particularly in regard to Fast Oxidizers.

    1) high in Phytic Acid , which inhibits the uptake of minerals such as magnesium, calcium, iron and zinc. 2) high in Oxalic Acid , which can bind to Calcium and interfere with absorption – bad for a Fast Oxidizer who needs a high level of calcium to. 3) Theobromine - can further increase the rate at which FOs metabolize foods, and throw off body chemistry in time.

  • Thanks for sharing - that is really interesting. I am fast oxidizer as well and I started eatig cacao on a regular basis (about 3 weeks now) due to the high mineral and vitamin C content. It's funny you mention the rash because since I started eating caco I have developed a slightly itchy area on my forearm. I will quit and see if it goes away - then start eating them to see if it comes back - regards

  • One man's poison, another man's medicine

  • Cacao is way stimulating so over time it can be taxing on the adrenals and other systems. It was probably "hard to quit" because it can be addictive like coffee. If somebody has a strong foundation or strong jing then it would easier to tolerate it. Factor in that many people probably also make their daily cacao drinks sweet with honey which poses gut risks. IMHO cacao is way overrated. When I've eaten cacao my body lets me know it's not right for me as a daily food. Thanks Kevin!

  • @hooperqi I used to drink about 15 cups of tea, about 20 cups of coffee with chocolate in it, and shakes with cocoa, hemp, and maca. I would work out after taking 500mg anhydrous caffeine. I did this for about 3 years and it worked well for a while until one day I decided to go above my usual limit and had way more coffee and tea than normal. All the sudden my face went completely numb. Found out that caffeine can be a potent neurotoxin

  • @guitarobsessed85 I used to train after taking stimulants like cacao and it didn't take me long to realize it wasn't working for me. I think no matter what "type" you are, sooner or later stimulants like raw cacao will get to you. Kevin was fortunate he had the resources and knowledge to isolate the issue, unlike many who will suffer long time before getting to the root cause of cacao. I agree with Kevin - it's only good as a one day party food, if that. Taking cacao was NOT my best day ever.

  • Doesn't cacao have an insane amount of antioxidants? So if your body can't tolerate it, you miss out on all those antioxidants eh? Or maybe those antioxidants from cacao don't work in your body.

  • @MisterTissueBox You have to weight the balance. Just because something contains healthy elements does not mean it overwrites the bad stuff it contains that could be poisonous to you.

  • I have a rash right now and I've been noticing that after I eat cacao I feel lethargic. Not sure if its connected to the rash though! I'll know soon

  • Ive been having insomnia and been feeling 'over exited' lately. I used to have cacao once a week if that in a smoothie or dessert. But ive mixed it in with my museli mix so i been having say maybe just under a teaspoon a day perhaps and i think it aint havin a good effect.

I think cacao is supposed to be a treat, id sooner have a dessert with a tablespoon in than a little amount on a daily basis. It got caffine in it, must be whats causin the upset.

  • hmm this is definitely due to not eating good fats. so of course when ur energy spikes up then drops down quickly, its because there are no fats for the body to release these sugars slowly into the blood stream. this is common when eating nothing but fruits and vegetables ONLY!!!

  • i gave up cacao and chocolate, started to make me feel tweeked and hasnt stoped since it started so i gave it up, it totally takes away my appitite and makes me loose to much weight.

  • maybe....... to much of anything aint good for you! i eat cocoa but not everyday, i eat the powdered form with coco pops cuz its yummy :) but not everyday, i listen to my body and eat it when i think i need it, or maybe its just you like you said everybody is different

  • I noticed the same muscle cramps in my legs when I drinked cacao based drinks (only) a few days...Is the effect more clear when using raw cacao/chocolate?

  • I noticed the same muscle cramps in my legs when I drinked cacao based drinks only a few days...Is the effect more clear when cacao is used raw?

  • yeah, I've had problems with cacao, too. Everytime I eat it for a few days in a row, I end up getting strong muscle cramps in my legs.....and these normally never happen for me. In addition, recently I got a mystery rash that was very itchy and red and stayed for days before receding.. Perhaps it also has something to do with the fact that our 'raw' cacao has in fact been heat treated all this time. I'm planning on getting some truly raw cacao and trying again.. Thanks for sharing Kevin

  • I have heard that some chocolate products that are processed might be contaminated with elad, according to Dr. Mercola, not too sure on that

  • cordyceps over cacao anyday, i gave up cacao, ruined my health a little

  • curious as to how much cacao you ate. I use about 1 heaping teaspoon 4-5 days of the week. a $12 bag last me 1-2 months. (powder form). God stimulant! will be on the watch for fatigue now. ty.

  • 1 teaspoon is definitely moderation, I prefer using 1-2 tablesppons, or more on days i need more happiness!

  • i keep having dark yellow urine and testicular pain do you know what kind of test i should get kevin?

  • I've been going through some kind of energy depletion the past 7 months or so and just got some bloodwork done last week. I did start avoiding the nightshade foods about 3 or 4 weeks ago and have been feeling better, but there are still somedays where I just feel completely weak and depleted. Wonder what it is! I havent really eaten much chocolate in the past couple months but I wonder if that affects me as well

  • /sigh..

Never take powerful foods/stuff continuously and for indefinite periods and at elevated levels, no matter how "medicinal" it is it may in one way or another clog your system, or deplete if of other things.. or downright mess it up.

In other words, don't overdo things.

Cocoa is excellent for doing a "germ killing spree" now and then, you may use pure cocoa in infected wounds even, but don't eat it like crazy.

There is a balance to things.

  • i see it the same way and someone who posts a whole lot of videos on youtube "teaching" other people how to do things right when it comes to eating but overdoe in cacao is pretty disappointing....to me it sounds like you developed an allergie towards cacao which makes sense since its high in histamine and you ate it EVERY DAY in a high dose...

this just confuses people and doesnt help at all.

thanks anyway for your efford, but for me... i stick to the professionals...

  • yea I mean, since it does contain drugs that affec the brain, maybe overloading it can cause the opposite effects as a regulatory mechanism or osmething

  • same cacao isnt all that good for u had minor reactions myself. really appreciate the video. Hey, how do i find raw untreated ( with heat ) nuts.?

  • lol, why were you so hesitant to bash cacao?

I think it's garbage: it's like meeting someone you really like, then finding out they have HIV and are racist - it's like, your cool and all in some ways, but no thanks, I'm outta here.

It's got two fatal flaws named theobromine and oxalic acid.

  • @hospitalbryan I guess we all have our opinions, seems abit harsh to me. I like the effect that theobromine has on my lungs, as for the oxalic acid, does this mean spinach has aids then? It disappointing seeing all these raw foodists bashing cacao, i would expect them to know what happens when you take a mineral overdose, which too me seems to be the main cause for people's tiredness after eating cacao. Too much potassium and magnesium, when you already have enough in diet, is bound to cause

  • Dr. T in 3 - Raw Cacao says exactly what you are talking about.

  • What did the tests say?

  • I am very very intolerant of cacao. I have been vegan, 80% raw for over 15 years, and am a degree trained nutritionist, so can spot the signs. It hits my liver big time, as if id drunk 10 bottles of wine the night before. Gives chronic nausea, distention, and dramatic appetite loss and malaise, when my energy is usually sky high. I blame it on many of the alkaloids - which make coffee look like mineral water in comparison

Gimme kale any day - that stuff is like crack to me!!

  • Kevin! I broke out in a rash too and I just noticed it today!!

  • I saw a video by David Wolfe where he blames Kevin's Cacao incident on 80/10/10, saying the diet caused demineralization. Based on what Kevin shared in this video, it doesn't sound like he was on 80/10/10 when he had the problem. I am experimenting with 811 now, so I am curious about the whole story, and why DW would say that. Cacao gives me a tummy ache. I tried to eat more of it anyway because DW says it's so good 4 u, but it doesn't seem like a logical food people should eat all the time.

  • sounds like david wolfe doesn't want to lose cacao sales. i like alot of what david wolfe does but i really am a bit suspicious now when it comes to cacao.

  • me too. i always have been. i am even more suspicious when something becomes marketed so fervently.

  • yeah he manipulates people with lies and his charismatic personal although i see through him to his greed and vanity, hyping up superfoods so he can charge $19 AU for 128 grams of organic raw goji berries, i buy my organic raw goji berries for $32 per 1000 grams david wolfe charges 2x the price for no reason but his insaniable greed

  • @trkrichardson whoa, i cant believe how ignorant you all seem to cacao, when it has been proven to help so many conditions. I guess all the those mayans (arguably, the most advanced civilisation on earth) where really just being stupid to consider it one of the most important foods.

  • @5youmukranda5 *civilization

  • @beehivebeliever oh well, does that mean all my points are invalid because i spelt something wrong?

  • xocia- chocolate mxi corp super hyped,no results for me, ate the stuff like m&m's

  • MonicaLewandowski,

Raw chocolate IS fermented. All chocolate is--that's the first step in treating the cacao beans once they are freed from their slippery pod. Fermentation is usually done by leaving the pods in heaps in the sun until they cure, which makes them edible. The question is: does then processing the chocolate, as in commercial chocolate- making, cancel out the benefits of fermentation? Or maybe something else Kevin was eating was reacting with the raw cacao in his diet?

  • on the typology issue, david wolfe is a sulphur (homeopathicall, most likely adrenal in glandular typology, and pitta/kapha in ayurveda, so he can therefore be happpily living on cacao and promoting it, but another type (like me) will be way too stimulated and vata-excess through the raw cacao, so again, watch for your type and listen to your body! and never trust one authority's truth! david's program works for him...

  • i think your right there are diff types how do I find out what types I am?

  • @jasminangel '' david wolfe is a sulphur (homeopathicall, most likely adrenal in glandular typology, and pitta/kapha in ayurveda, so he can therefore be happpily living on cacao and promoting it, '' - can you break this down a Little bit more please ? I really wana understand this raw cacao thing . Not understanding why it affects people differently in terms of technicalities and science .

  • you really have to look at typologies...kevin is a phosphorous type (in homeopathic typing) and a thyroid type in glandular typing, and vata in ayurveda so he should not go near any sweetener or stimulant like cacao, agave, sugars, etc. as they will completely make him imbalanced and aggravated, not to mention high on sugar like a drug...but that is him...other types do well on natural sugars or cacao. so never make anything ALL or nothing. it is always relative to the type!

  • Have been drinking and eating raw cacao almost everyday for one year and still no problems. The exception is occaisonal excessive thirst, but this is when I haven't watered up sufficiently anyway. Fruit sometimes removes the thirst and creates a higher high from the cacao, other times I stop drinking cacao and go for the water. Overall zero problems after my first year of big-time raw cacao consumption. Oh, and I'm not wholly European by the way, maybe white boys have some problem with Cacao!!

  • coco is a powerful drug. it opiates. it is highly addictive.

  • I also wanted to add an observation I have had after thinking about it for a while. In addition to headaches, cacao seems to cause my skin to break out. If I go for days or weeks without it, then it goes away. But if I eat cacao, the skin problems come back. As the liver and skin reflect each other, I am going to guess the break out is a sign the liver function is being affected negatively by the cacao. Is this common for others to experience as well?

  • Thanks for sharing!

  • I think my towns water gives me hives.I get hives when

    A) I pull an all nighter, then when the stores open go do some shopping. When I make contact with people I start to itch.

    B) After eating potatoes

    C) Walking out and about after a fresh shower. I think the resin from my parents washing machine gets in my clothing.

    D) Use that green soap, IRISH SPRING

I was told by my doctor an anti histamine will help. They kind of do but I hate taking them.

  • cacao is traditionally fermented before eaten, to eat it raw is not healthy, but if you ferment it it is more digestible.

  • I think that's a myth, and if you read the books out there on chocolate they will agree, but they are wrong, having no knowledge of actually eating raw cacao as a health food. This was never even considered you see. But, it we were meant to eat foods cooked, we would have been born with sort a stove attached to our bodies I think. Raw cacao seemed to be VERY easy for my digestion regardless of what form it was in best I can remember.

  • Well, your name suggest you are an expert, but still I don't value the opinion of a random person I meet on youtube, who hasn't established any credibility, nor do I expect you to value my opinion, all I am saying is that I learned that chocolate needs to be fermented much like nuts and seeds need to be sprouted before eating because of the phylic acid. Kinda the same concept. I encourage everyone to do their own research and take mine and everyone els's opinion with a grain of salt.

  • And I never said it needed to be cooked, rather I said fermented, which is a natural process by which bacteria and yeast in some cases, predigest the food you eat, rendering it easily digested by our own stomachs. It doesn't change the fact that the cocoa is raw, rather it has more enzymes than it would have pre-fermentation phase.

  • Well, I was just thinking that criollo, needs the least fermentation of cacao varieties and unlike most nuts and seeds cacao does not have digestive enzyme inhibitors. I have done a lot of research on this stuff. I think fermentation is alright as long as it's not over done, and done at a very low temperature so it's not cooked in the process. I may be some random person right now, but that will change. I plan to make a lot of videos on the mysteries behind cacao!

  • I drank cacao smoothies, with raw cacao nibs blended in. I liked the stimulation to my mind and body. If I felt overstimulated physically, I mixed a couple of spoonfulls of MSM Powder into water or juice, followed by extra water if desired. The MSM Powder totally relieved the over stimulation effect. I learned of this anectdote from David Wolfe.

When I consume raw nibs in the A.M. by afternoon I have an extreme craving for cheese or greens. Possibly a calcium craving?

    Interesting video.

  • MSM, the sulfur, aids the liver in detox, similarly how milk thistle seed would. Maybe everyone who wants to eat raw cacao should take it with MSM, or just stop it all together since it is such an unnecessary burden on the liver being a toxic poison that it is.

  • Thank u so much for sharing your cacao story!

    My cacao story:

Couldn't sleep anymore. Got kinda addicted to it as well. Had headaches and low energy after some time taking it.

So, I'll eat raw chocolate only once in a while from now on! :)

(And as I'm on a Juice Feast at the moment, I won't be eating it for some time, I guess. :))

    Great work!

    Violet

  • It is interesting that cacao seemed to cause acidity, not only is it loaded with magnesium, it is loaded with pottassium, perhaps all the minerals in cacao required more sodium to make them more balanced in the cells... or maybe it was the caffeine that has a adverse reaction to you. Also your energy may of decreased because cacao is very good at lowering high blood pressure, prehaps your blood pressure went to low...

  • This is highly interesting. And thanks for telling us about DirectLabs. I have wanted to do independent blood tests for various things for quite some time but had no idea where to go. Thanks!

  • Taking cacao was like speed for me... it would last for like 3 days and then I would totally crash... but wouldn't be able to sleep... I take it in small amount rarely now.

  • You definitly seem more energetic than before Kevin. Glad to hear you're feeling better :)

I tried cacao once, and it tasted great. Then I tried it again and it tasted disgusting; haven't had it since then. And I'm thinking that was a wise decision. lol

  • What is a great food to stop reflux?

  • raw cabbage.

But correct meal composition, portion size and exercise is the way to do it.

  • great job man...but i have to ask if you were also using superherbs as well?? and also did you just use cacao powder or did you mix coconut or cacao oil in along with it and if you did how much and how often?? thanks!!!

  • was he eating raw cacao ?

  • Whats the differance with Cacao and Cocoa, does Cocoa give the same negative affects you talked about as Cacao?

    Do they both contain Caffeine?

  • after eating cacao for sometime, i started to have gum problems and some hairs in my beard started to turn either white or auburn from dark brown. the Hippocrates Health Institute doesn't promote cacao, they say it's bad, so i include many of the things they recommend like fresh wheatgrass juice, green drinks, and sprouts including legumes. the wheatgrass is like a miracle food for me!

  • Loved hearing your experience with this...was wondering what you drink as far as water goes? do you have a particular water sys?

    thx

  • Great show, Kevin! Thanks!

    New Friday Show...

I really like the Q & A Shows... would be great to have an extra show a week where you answer more Viewers questions!

  • I had the same reaction with cacao! Wow! I definitely only have it as a treat. Great that you share this info! Awesome!!

  • The very first time of trying raw cacao, I can recall that it gave me a headache and a powerful stimulating affect. However, after that first time of trying it, it just gave me a powerful energy stimulation that gradually faded as my body got accustomed to the raw cacao over time, in terms of days. Currently I don't eat to much of it. But when I do have some for fun, I don't notice any headaches or any form of stimulation anymore.

  • burpees are a great exercise!

  • i tohught it was pronounced co co but i guess i learned somthing

  • I'm going to say I have to agree with you 100%! I want to actually call you and talk to you about some of the problems I have had with cacao. Can you message me and give me your phone number? I would like to chat about this sometime with with you. I used to live on cacao, but now I am off it completely and I have come to see it as a toxic poison. For me, the big problem was after the first few months of taking it, I was getting bad headaches from it which ruined my day of course!

  • hackie sac, great exercise and cordination

  • 8-3 bring on the Pats!

  • you got it!!!!

  • great video, i also noticed darker urine color after eating whole raw cacao beans.

I believe most of us can feel its a great stimulant, but not recommended for long term use. thanks for sharing!

  • u can never run out of fitness stuff

  • i find that too much of anything causes problems for me...so i just alternate my foods, and don't rely on the same thing eaten every day. so far, so good!

  • I don't have a cacao incident, but when I went Vegan I intuitively knew that chocolate of any kind was not good for me. Cacao, cocoa, all of it. I'm actually allergic!

Excellent show. Thank you for being so very honest.

  • david wolfe is going to love this video lol.

  • Chi gung is really good for core stability, balance, circulation and general health improvement..very renegade health !!

  • I had eczema for a year. It was two patches on both cheeks. Awful place to have it but it was sort of disguised and people thought I had really rosy cheeks. Anyways in the end what has gotten rid of it is an intense herbal regimen with a diet devoid of stimulants, simple sugars and alcohol.

I found cacao exacerbated it, but at the same time it wasn't the cause for me personally. I can eat it fine now but I am still on the diet and avoiding it for the next two months just to be sure.

  • Thanks for sharing this info!
