  • He's barely hitting ANY rim!!!!!

  • Rodney Monroe was one of the greatest players in the history or MD High School BBall. I remember the first time I saw him play against Dunbar and they had Sam Cassell and a boatload of players. It did'nt matter he scored something like 30 and they won. Then the next year he turned around and hit a 60 foot shot to win against another city power Lake Clifton was one of the best shooters I ever saw. The Hawks did'nt capitalize on his talents they tried to make him a point guard.

  • Rodney Monroe is the greatest player to ever go through the md catholic basketball schools.... I can still remember being young watching Goretti, him and Kenyatta Mason were ALOT of fun to watch as a kid, those two could do no wrong in my eyes then that led right into him and Chris. I can still remember when they both came to the summer camp ran by the best coach in the area Cokey Robertson. Another memory, Goretti coming out to "lean on me", still sends shivers down my spine. Go Rodney,

  • whats your name 242apache because southlake just played you guys and im on the team

  • rodney monroe is my basketball coach @ Lake Norman Christian. Charlotte NC

  • @242apache do you know miles because rodney runs an optimist league in denver and he was on my team this season

  • I think he and Chris Jackson (LSU) were my two favorite players to watch in college.....Absolute scoing machines.

  • It's all about the mustache...such an underrated college player.

  • rodney is an usher at my church! hes awesome:] and hes my bros bball coach!

  • This was the year after Tech made the Final 4. They no longer had Scott or Oliver (the other two of the "Letal Weapon 3"). We actually beat Tech three times that year.

You are correct on Duke winning it all - Carolina also made the F4 that year.

We actually had a really good team, just no depth. And Les was coaching. Had V stuck around, this could have been a Sweet 16 team.

  • I was at this game. I remember my voice was gone for 3 days after this.

At the time we didn't know it, and wouldn't have believed if someone had told us, that it would still be another 18 years (and counting) before winning another ACC Championship (at the time of this game it had already been 4 years).

Corch and Monroe as seniors...its a shame they never got an ACC Championship. They deserved better. They had a shot at NCAA in '89 if not for the worst call ever against Georgetown.

  • my memory is kind of hazy because this was 18 years ago but was didn't they also play ga tech at home on seniors night where chris and rodney were honored and i thought rodney scored 50 points that night. i could be wrong tho. i was a senior in high school that year at athens drive.

  • Grazie rodney per i bellissimi momenti che ci hai regalato....Forza Fabriano

  • He also couldn't play defense in the NBA

He's a awesome guy though and was an awesome player for us!

  • this was the year Ga. tech went to the final 4.

State also beat Duke at home. Duke won the national champ. 1991

  • How this guy never played in the nba is beyond me. To see guys that didn't have half his skills play in the nba makes me hate the nba even more. One of the best shooters in college basketball history.

  • Very difficult to overcome a teammate like Chris Corchiani who knew when, where, and how to feed the ball to Rodney when you get to play with the Hawks.

  • he did play...for the Hawks...he just didn't have the size, speed to compete at that level...much like Reddick

  • I don't know about the size/speed thing. Guys like steve kerr and john paxon were specialists. I think he could have been a specialist bench scorer for somebody.

  • Just a little FYI my cousin Rodney did make it to the NBA he didn't play very long...take a look at the 91 roster for the hawks and you will see him there. Just an fyi! :)

  • I remember he got drafted by the hawks in the second round in '91. Thanks for info. I don't think he got a fair shake with them, though.

  • I remember this game...if I'm not mistaken it was a weekend game...Monroe scored 48 on Kenny Anderson

  • i was at that home game at nc state when monroe scored something like 48 points against ga tech and kenny anderson and all them, dennis scott. i was a senior at athens drive high school at the time in raleigh

  • I was at this game....great battle b/w the guards.

  • Sweet player...great guy. I was a teenager when he was at State. Played pick up with him, and he showed me better ways to shoot the 3. After that, I started hitting about 35-40%!
