  • Spotlight does about 95% of the work, i don't even use the Dock that much, and i only have my top ten apps in it permanently. But there are times i want to launch an app that i use seldom and i don't remeber his name. For this stuff, i think, Launchpad comes in handy: I can create Folders by Subject, so that i can navigate to just those Apps through semantic.

  • It would be awesome to implement some metadata-head in the .app Bundles, so that Spotlight would offer a more semantic way of searching. The way i imagine it, developers would get to define "Spotlight Patterns", so that i can access functions of an application by typing in some fancy syntax, which would be, as is applescript, very close to natural language.

  • i play starcraft 2 too! wtas ur username? mine is NoTiCe 187

  • You sound like Jon Quach in this video =)

  • i use launchpad because if the application isn't in the dock you have to open finder and click applications and then open the application so launchpad is handy

  • STARCRAFT 2!

  • Launchpad is basically a stack, but looks cooler. They should implement this for all the other stacks like documents and downloads.

  • Get a magic trackpad, then you can use a 4 finger pinch gesture to open launchpad on a desktop

  • the reason your dock is so messy is that you don't use launchpad!

you put your favourite apps in your dock, not all your apps.

  • The only things I would use Launchpad for,if I had a Mac would be for games and to get to system preferences whenever I need to.

  • Completely pwned by MS Win 8 :)

  • Pwned By win 8

  • Great video John! Love the way you presented LaunchPad. Solver I believe has to do with MS Office 2011.. "NO! iMovie belongs next to Final Cut, cause their both video programs, and their friends!" haha classic man. Keep up the great work. Peace and Love

  • dont u realy think that OS X it looks a little bit familiar with ubuntu ?

  • @asdfghjkl0254247356 They are both based off of Unix. Apple was here first anyway.

  • I use alfred for everything, or just go down to my dock.

  • to add to ....NO MISSION CONTROL TOO..???;-(

Am i running an demo version or somthin lyk tht ??

  • i purchased my mbp yesterday..which comes wit os x lion..!! but i found NO LAUNCH PAD ..?? is it holyy shit...??am i doomed ??

  • NO!! iMovie belongs next to Final Cut!

  • lol, cant u uz use spotlight? or from finder waste of time

  • launchpad is the most stupid idea ever. we're not 3 apple, we can launch applications

  • irritating voice

  • Definitely going to use Launchpad !! Way better than the dock.

    Great video !

  • Although I originally thought launchpad would be useless to me, I just figured out a way to make launch pad useful. If I don't want my dock to be cluttered with programs or use spotlight, I can pinch using my thumb and 3 fingers on the trackpad to open up launch pad and select my programs a lot easier if I organize them where they're more convent. I preferred using spotlight originally before I actually started to do this and I can't go back.

  • I put a new app in the utilities folder through finder....but when I opened utilities in launch pad...it didn't show up.

  • Definitely much more handy than searching through my stupid windows Start menu with super small text and icons or those desktop shortcuts

  • They should make an iMac Touch , i'm thinking a 20" touch screen , any bigger it would be a bit to big, and it should run on ios.

  • @MrRobertoCohen no, lion rather.

  • @MrRobertoCohen Then it wouldn't be an iMac, now would it? It can't be an iMAC if it doesn't run MAC. Derp-duh-derp much?

  • @Krazed4Tech Erm have you heard that apple are trying to connect ios with mac, obviously not.

    You're a bit late..

  • @MrRobertoCohen No, Mac is enhancing itself with features resembling itself to iOS such as more multi-touch gestures and Launchpad. Regardless, a Touchscreen computer running iOS cannot be considered a MAC. Understandable?

  • @Krazed4Tech Yes it is but i heard very different.

Now can you stop commenting back because i don't respond to long comments sorry.

  • Comment removed

  • i like launch pad but i don't use it very often

  • why there are also microsoft jerk icon on your mac???

  • Some people like me put only some apps on their docks. This would be useful if I'm running an application and would want to open a new one. I'd rather use Launchpad than open Finder or the stacked Applications folder on the dock.

  • do you think os x lion is worth it if you're an everyday user?

  • @xxdavid206xx yes its definitively worth it

  • Launchpad feels more natural with a trackpad while the dock feels better with a magic mouse. I use their laptop, so I practically emptied out my dock...

  • @jaychou1994 You do know there's a "Search" option, right..? Or if seeing small things really bother you, just right click start and customize it to a larger font and icons.

  • Well, it's certainly better than going through multiple menus and looking at those tiny icons and words searching for that one program in my windows start menu

  • i don't know about anybody else . But I use Launchpad a lot

  • Launchpad annoys me a lot.

It's not that it doesn't look bad, it's just I have a bunch of apps and it's very annoying to organize it.

I wish they had some better features.

  • Don't have Lion yet but I think i'm gunna give launchpad a try. It might me useful to keep some apps that I use frequently but not frequently enough that i want them to wast space in the dock. I'll be using a laptop so every last bit of space is useful...

  • I use it to keep my Desktop clean :)

  • If you could run iOS apps from the launch pad, then... yeah it would be brilliant. But... it can't? Then I can't really see the point behind it.

  • id never use launch pad. i think launch pad is for people with bad eye site so they can se the applications better. and yes i know u can use magnification and enlarge the dock.

  • I don't believe I would use LaunchPad either.

  • 48,035th... i loose

  • Sorry if this is a stupid question but could someone please tell me what the deal is with the windows in parallel apps?

  • i dont think i would use launchpad either..

  • Looks like old Linux XXX, just with cut features

  • What is wrong with just launching apps from the dock or by using spotlight? I just don't get the launchpad idea on a Mac. I think it is just as cool as ping :-)

  • @aalborg82 the idea is of course to make Lion look like iOS, and for people who are not familiar with Mac OS, launchpad can be very helpful since they don't know spotlight or how to put their apps to the dock ,-)

  • I'm going to skip this update, it's just gimmicks.

  • @fidgetingfinch actually, the fullscreen apps feature is VERY useful ;) love it

  • Lol what a mess!

  • I used to love your videos, now they are just stupid

  • He plays Starcraft II :) In which league you are man? ;)

  • @TheTomoYoda Its one of the few decent games on macs

  • Help! How can i delete an alias thats in my lunchpad?!

  • I wish you could update your computer like you can your phone..

  • been able to do this for years on windows mods and apps.

  • @21whitworth12 Been able to do this for years on Mac too...

  • @DarkGoon3r96 Not as early as on pc, apple only makes money through hyping overrated products

  • @21whitworth12 So you are saying that iPhone, iMac, 17 Inch Macbook Pro aren't one of the best smartphone/All in one Desktops/Laptop available?

  • @DarkGoon3r96 that is exactly what i am saying....macs are for the people too dumb to use pcs properly.

  • @21whitworth12 Too dumb to use PCs properly? Windows is much more user friendly and easier to learn and use.

  • @DarkGoon3r96 you obviously have not used it before.

  • @21whitworth12 So you are saying PCs are harder to use than a Mac OS? You must be kidding, I have used both, Windows 7, and Mac OS X Lion, and use either daily depending on what I want to do, and Mac OS X is definitely harder to get used to, not only to me, one of the only reasons Windows is so popular is because it is so easy to use, probably the easiest OS to use.

  • @DarkGoon3r96 windows is so popular because pcs are cheaper than macs. If you use windows properly, the possibilities are endless. On macs you are very restricted.

  • @21whitworth12 I said "one of the reasons". Possibilites are definitely higher on Windows, and Mac is more restricted, but that is not even what we were talking about, Windows is easier to use period, only reply back if you disagree, but I doubt it is possible for anyone to disagree to the fact that windows IS the more user friendly out of the two

  • @DarkGoon3r96 with macs you are kept with the basic needs, where you cant fuck up, in windows, if you are dumb, you could fuck up anywhere

  • @DarkGoon3r96 Windows is easier to use? And it's a fact? ROFL.

  • @NotAYTUser Are you a retard? So are you saying that windows is harder to use than Mac? Fuck off man

  • @DarkGoon3r96 I feel sad for you becoming a Microsoft slave. (Pro tip here: Swearing doesn't make your arguments any more plausible, just saying.)

  • @NotAYTUser LMAO, Microsoft slave? Have you even been seeing what is going on?

  • I'm using it on a Macbook Pro and I'm trying to get used to using it instead of just clicking on the apps folder on my dock. I'm still not sure which one is easier but launchpad is def prettier. :) The gesture for it's pretty intuitive but it's not really all that sensitive when it comes to exiting launchpad. It usually takes 2 or 3 tries with the gesture to close out of it.. Meh.. I'm sure it'll get fixed

  • Wow. You have a lot of stuff on your computer.

  • You can access it quicker by using your four fingers and thumb to pinch on the trackpad.

  • is there a short cut key for launchpad

  • @redkimba1 You can assign one.

  • @generischernutzer how do you assign one?

  • @redkimba1

System preferences -> Keyboard -> Shortcuts

It's actually quite obvious, don't you think? ^^

  • @redkimba1 if your on a macbook you can use your four fingers and thumb and pinch on the trackpad

  • Launchpad is not useless in Apples eyes. Yes, it is for past users but it really just looks like Apple did it to cater to those new Mac users who expect OS X to be more like iOS. :\

  • Jon, I like you the way you are, drop the Jon Q skit

  • Launchpad is useless. Apart from that, I'm really liking mission control, iPhone-style auto-correct, FaceTime, gestures and fullscreen apps. $30 is right on the mark. This update is in no way mind-blowing, but it does not ruin the OS in any way either (unless you've got tons of PowerPC apps, then stay away).

If you've got $30 to spare, go for it. If not, you can live without it.

  • @Tinderbox It depends on the user how useful or useless it may be. I prefer spotlight to launch programs, because it's usually faster, but there certainly are more mouse loving folks who'll surely enjoy LaunchPad.

  • Just got my upgrade. Loving it

  • John, Im sorry but you sound really obnoxious in this video.

  • alright, no money = no os x lion

  • @theworldshakerz just get it for free

  • @theworldshakerz alright, job = MONEY

  • @theworldshakerz It's only $30

  • @theworldshakerz torrent it dude

  • why dont you just get a magic mose jon, in stead of putting it on a laptop

  • Wow starcraft 2 on a mac .no wonder why so many lags on the battlenet server.

  • Features like this have been in Ubuntu Linux for at least the past two years. For free.

  • @SteezMcGee420 Well I bet you can't use gestures to activate it on Ubuntu.

  • @BigJackJohn It's linux. You can do anything.

  • @SteezMcGee420 Sure.

  • If you use a touch screen, you can use your desktop like an ipad.

  • Agree!

  • Sc2!!!!!!

  • 

╭∩╮(︶︿︶)╭∩╮ - Please check my video on Mac OS X Lion (Thumbs Up Please)

  • @1730davis How bout a thumbs down for spamming?

  • I love when people use the "low price" justification for mediocrity. You wouldn't accept a souped up bicycle with unnecessary training wheels to transport you to work just based on it being cheaper than a moped or car.

  • YEah, launchpad is pretty worthless...

  • Solver is a simple plugin for MS Excel. Lets you do some intensive math.

  • Is he high?

  • I'm on a laptop and I use launchpad, I remove the application folder from my dock and on my dock is only my most used apps

  • 0:28 for start of review

  • why are people complaining about the price. Its only $30.00 its better then paying $100 for a windows upgrade.

  • it's so obious that jon is trying to be funny like jon q... thumbs up if you noticed

  • LION>W7

  • I upgraded, and i dont feel like i will be using launchpad too much.. But i didn't know you could move and organize them, if you dont have a multitouch pad its pretty muchuseless.

  • NO!

  • seems like some people don't have 30 bucks to spend

  • @spicyxeskimo Yep all of the their stores are interconnected; iTunes, iBooks, the Mac App Store.

  • This was perfect for the iPhone and for the iPod too, the idea of the iPad to look like my phone, mmm don’t liked that much but is ok, and about making my laptop looks like my iPhone, no way that’s too much for me. Definitely not getting this until my next laptop, I refuse to spend $30.00 for make my laptop look like an iPhone, I know is not that much money but I don’t need this!!!

  • Your review is rather even handed, but I have yet to see anything about Lion that makes it stand out as a worthy incremental upgrade. Mission Control and Launchpad are really only good if you stop doing things the way you've been doing them for years, and start using these new UI features. Features, that aren't better, they're just different. Also, Lion seems to be blatantly based around around the App store. Lots of tools to help people give more money to Apple. I'm not impressed either.

  • @techraan agreed i prefer snow and apple is such a bitch to remove expose. mission control is a shit. now there is 2 steps before i get to my dashboard

  • I won't be using launchpad too often,if not at all. It's nice as an option but seems more of a gimmick but it is nice to have heh. as you said The dock is just fine and I'd actually like to trigger and hot key applications like "quicksilver" or "alfred" work for me too :) thanks for all the great videos! Look forward to more!

and i found a great app called better touch tool which lets you customize gestures on your trackpad or mouse to whatever command you want them to do check it out! :)

  • 30 bucks for a service pack? No THanks.

  • That's it? I payed 30 bucks for this?

  • @carlos53k yea, kinda bull fuck rite?

  • Cool but meh

  • Just install Windows 7 ion it and you can literally make it look however you want with some really slick customization apps

  • @TheVideoGamePad it's not the same trust me

  • FUCK APPLE GO WINDOWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Experimentzshow well... i'm a fan of Windows too, but itf it werent for Apple, there would be no such thing as wifi or ipods...

  • @spicyxeskimo Well they have to buy the drives, install the data, package them, ship them to the apple stores. It is clearly going to cost more. They are clearly trying to push people toward digital downloads, and anyway it is still a damn sight cheaper then the $120 Microsoft charges for the basic version of Windows. Anyway if you want to pay cash you could always buy a $30 iTunes gift card from wherever and just use that.

  • Jon you are almost at 100 million total upload views!!

  • I am going to use Laaunchpad but what i want to do is remove the clutter from my Dock and put it in Launch Pad, what is the easiest way to do this?

all i realy want on my Dock is a Few Browsers (Each of my you tube pages it set to a different browser so i can stay signed in on all of them at the same time) Launchpad,Mission Control,Time MAchine,Photo Booth,Face Time,Mail and Finder

  • @tramlaw72 There is a gesture you can use if you have the multi-touch trackpad. So it can be a little quicker, what I don't like about it is that you can't remove icons from the Launchpad.

  • I dont think I will use it. It doesn't seem anymore convenient then just going into the application folder on my dock.

  • There friends... Lol :p

  • You sir are funny. :)

  • what happened to, just type in what you want to find and find it. This doesn't look like I have very much overview... maybe it'll not work as well for desktops as it does for palmtops

  • oh wooow!!!

the icons do a jggly dance - great!!! hahahahaha!!!! what a great thing. the icons jiggle woooow.

    stupid shit

    fanboy!

  • been using an app called Quickpick which does exactly the same thing (no folders, but much more customisable) for ages. there are loads of app launchers out there; this is way too late and way too poorly implemented. can't even see a way to remove apps I don't want on there.. it just shows everything in your Applications folder.

    another minimalist nightmare from Apple.

  • i will use it

  • I`m gonna take years to learn how to use that >.<

  • Well there meant to be doing a touch screen mac so using iOS features in lion makes sense

  • Ram

  • Launch pad is a waste of my ran

  • i use launchpad all the time for those apps that i don't feel like keeping in my dock i.e. the adobe CS applications and the games from the app store, but like he said i am on a laptop (13 inch with little screen real estate) so its nice to be able to just go BAM and have my apps available without making my dock microscopic, plus i can sort them in the order i want so i can have something like solitaire on the first page rather than all the way down the list like in the apps folder in the dock

  • @LtBuckFalls Ya, I use it a lot atm too. In place of the Applications stack.

  • @LtBuckFalls but couldn't you just keep the applications folder in the dock, so when you open it all your programs just pop out? Sounds the same to me :|

I'm still debating on buying this. I thought i had a qualifying mac for a free upgrade, but it turns out i don't.

  • launchpad is dumb, i'm never gonna use it. mission control is cool but also not that impressive. BUT all the fuckin sweet gestures, full screen mode, and the new lion safari really is great. i used to use chrome but i'm using safari now since lion safari is awesome. and the login screen and some other graphics are refreshed and look really good.

"250 new features" is bullshit, there's only like 3 that matter, but they're cool enough to be worth 30 bucks in my opinion

  • i have the macbook pro and i hate having things in my dock all the time so ive been using launchpad a lot since yesterday!

  • Mac OS sucks balls

  • i love the launch pad idea. but i'm not really sure how mission control will be useful to me. i mean i can just have multiple windows open on one desktop, why have more then one. still a great new OS.

  • I use launchpad on my Air, i find it easier than the applications folder. On the smaller screen it works just fine. On my iMac i don't like using it, it's far too much effort to mouse around and the icons are too large.

  • pk so i've not seen a jon4lakers video in a while ,only because i havent been on my laptop much , but i have to say it really really feels like he's trying to sound like jon Q , his mannerisms and the way he phrases his jokes , very very like Jon Q.and i think both JR and jonnyQ are both legends , but i really think jon ret should just keep his stye.

  • @jon4lakers plz reply, cuz i have a question: if i upgrade to Lion, will i have the applications i had on Snow Leopard or i will need to install em again?? please tell me how i can transfer all my applications from Snow Leopard to Lion.. thanks in advance

  • LaunchPad Looks Pretty Pointless, But I Might Just Use It To Uninstall Apps If It Does It Better Than AppZapper.

  • u drunk????

  • @iStaunchYou You spamming every Lion video then?

  • you need a pop filter

  • I'll never use launchpad. Erm, Applications folder?

  • DO I NEED A MAC TO INSTALL THIS? CAN IT RUN CRISIS? TO ALL THAT ARE JUST FAGGING TO APPLE=

    A MAC(MINIMUN SPECIFICS) MIN=1200$

    A MAC OS LION=39$

A SUPER PC RIG WITH W7= LESS THAN A SUCKING MAC..

  • @loopmix69

    u mad bro?

  • @loopmix69

    Lion = $29

Minimum Specs: $599 [There's more than one model, Genius, You Don't Have To Get An iMac]

Can It Run Crisis: Yes, If You Really Wanted To You Would Just Run Windows On Your Mac.

    Learn Your Shit Before Commenting.

Im An Apple Fanboy, But I Don't Insult People Who Use Windows. For You To Start A Flamewar Is Really Just Pathetic. Why Did You Even Watch This Video If You Don't Like Macs.

  • @loopmix69 are you ok?Yuo can Find a refurbished Mac mini for less that 500 bucks. Mac's don't suck. If anything, windows sucks compared to mac... Now hold on. Don't yell at me just yet. I love the windows operating system, but the Mac OS is a lot more smoother. You can download programs with out worrying about viruses or malware coming into your system. And actaully, No. You DON'T need a Mac to install Lion. Just risk you computer and run Hackintosh. :D

  • Does Microsoft Office 2011 really not work? I haven't upgraded to lion yet, and I need feedback... If it doesn't then the upgrade is pretty much useless to me.

  • @iStaunchYou windows 7 is about $150 now anyway so and lion is like $40......

  • People say it's not useful and they will use there dock but what about all the things that arent in your dock or won't fit it's easier than having to find it on your system but I think that people moving to a mac from a pc will use it more as they will take less time to get used to rather than people who already own a mac as they are used to the traditional way

  • Ugh, this faggot is so irritating.

  • @iStaunchYou lion is $29
