Was this really the A side? I thought it was 'The Inbetweenies' with this on the flip.
Either way, did anyone else who owned it ever notice that - long before the era of colour vinyls - it was not an opaque black single like the rest, but a very, very dark purple & slightly translucent disc?
It was the 70s,thus the thinking was very different then (If you don't believe me then check out Love Thy Neighbour - YIKES!!), but, given your comment, it seems like the female warmed up to Santa towards the end & possibly even had a baby by him, so no harm done, eh!
At the end of a long and stressful day, wise people like to relax with a track from The Goodies from their heyday in the mid-'70s. For some reason, this reminds me of a former colleague recently retired. Gotta hand it to these three - they ran what was described as a 'children's program' on the BBC but most of the humour - except for the silly running around bits - was definitely pitched at an adult audience.
My Dad introduced me to this song a couple of months ago. Awesome song, makes ms smile every time I hear it. Can't help but sing along either. Especially enjoy throwing my arms above my head and shouting FATHER!!!!
Ohhhhhhhhh,,! This was in the collective of records that were in the house when i was about 6. Now forty, and doing the housework, it came in my head. Took me right back. The picture of the record. The 'hello' at the end. The goodies represented the great british comedy that is the envy of the world..Nice one. Thanks for posting it..
This is the funniest record!!! I agree 'I can't little girls bigger ones are better.' Is such a great line. Perhaps some of todays song wirters should adopt the Goodies style lol x
I'm having a fit of the giggles - I had the single but obviously wasn't allowed to listen to it by Mum back when I was 'young'. In fact it wasn't until my wife pointed out it was rude last year that I realised it was maybe naughty.. frighteningly I'm now 43..
I'm 43 too... The Inbetweenies was, I'm sorry to say, the first song I ever bought. But I used to listen to Father Christmas (very quietly) every day. :)
It never even struck me - in fast it was teh step boys singing the song to their father and him suggesting it was funnya couple of years ago that I even had a hint it was rude!

This was banned by the BBC but it still made Number 7 in the UK charts - why isn't it played as an Xmas single now?
geolabuk 2 years ago 5
They played the B side on the radio and on TV programmes so it sold on that.

To the tune of John Brown's dead this is obviously just a rip off of the old classic "Oh Sir Jasper"
"She wears her silk pyjamas in the summer when it's hot,
She wears her frilly nightie in the winter when it's not,
but early in the springtime and later on when in the fall,
she jumps into the bed with nothing on at all.
Oh Sir Jasper do not touch me,
Oh Sir Jasper do not touch me,
Oh Sir Jasper do not touch me,
as she lay between the frilly white sheets with nothing on at all."
