  • Arguello is slow, he's like Margarito. Pac will blow him out.

  • @ryderwayland You dont know what you're watching

  • Wow! Simply amazing! Arguello used to be awesome! However, when it comes to his alleged suicide, there're very strong indications that there was foul play and that the Ortega regime might be involved. According to his children, Alexis didn't have a reason to commit suicide for he was still in great shape and excited about leaving the political arena because he was disenchanted with the Ortega regime when he found out about the corruption and that he was being used to appeal to the masses.

  • Damn Mancini got owned at last round.

  • Watching Arguello - God he was Damn good

  • this K.O. !!!!!

    Saludos paganos.

  • its bullshit alexis never comitted suicide that counttries gov is so corrupt arguello greatest of all time love and respect from puerto rico

  • Forever Champion! We don't miss them until they're gone.

  • look every body thats my uncle alexis arguello ya he kicks some but but he passed away but ill always think hes one of the best fighters and just by the way for proof my name is valerie arguelo its in spanish because we are ! but when he boxed it was way back then but i never got to meet him thats to bad but at least i get to see him box at lest and aguin hes one of the best fighters at least ha ! oh ya vist my friend black @ cutboy.webs.com because im useing his hing to type stuff !

    !

  • "But it is only round 14 and anything can happen." LOL

  • @cremaster0 whats funny about that

  • @johnosandra That all these new fighters bitch and moan for 12 rds and old school fighters had to go at it for that long.

  • @cremaster0 lol, I know, right?! Wish those days were still here. Actually, Mancini, unintentionally, helped play a role making it 15 to 12. It's sad but still think it should go to 15.

  • The size difference between these two fighters makes it look like Mancini fighting his daddy.

  • Better music than that damn Evanesence song but it just didnt fit with the video. That Heavyweights: The Punchers video did it PERFECT

  • Before this fight, there was all the TV hype about Mancini and his story, it was clearly all about him, But Alexis was such a champin and gentleman he never made a big deal about it or uttered a hard word towards Ray. That is classy. And when he dragged Mancini out to deep water and drowned him, figurately,, he was among the first to console him, and offer words of encouragement to not let it set him back. He was an example to some of these so called " champs "

  • @boxerrick42 Yeah, I remember that CBS really built up the "Boom Boom" story and justifiably so 'cause it was a great story. The week afterward, CBS acknowledged as much, and seeking atonement, ran a feature about Alexis. Props all around as it was a great feature that introduced the US viewers to what a great fighter and man Arguello was.

  • ray mancini a okay fighter who could not beat any real champs

te falto nombrar a Napoles, Zarate, Jofre.

  • OSCAR DEJAR SOLAMENTE 5 BOXeADORES, EN ESTE RANKING, ES COMO DECIR QUE ALEMANIA, ITALIA, BRASIL, ARGENTINA,FRANCIA,HAN SIDO LOS UNICOS CAMPEONES EN FUTBOL Y DONDE QUEDA INGLATERRA, HOLANDA, ESPAÑA ETC. EL BOXEO NO SE BASA EN HIPOTESIS DE QUIEN GANARIA A QUIEN, LOS QUE GANARON FUERON BUENOS EN SU MOMENTO.

  • im still a fan of Arguello he will never die.

  • oh ya thats what im talkin abcout

  • I was a big fan of Alexis Arguello. RIP Champ!!!

  • Alexis was murdered by Sandinistas,

they hide the corpse from his own family , ..his daughters couldnt see him before the embalming, Forensic Physicians was trained to say what Lenin Cerna wanted. They showed a corpse in a Tv,but his face was covered with a blanket, but the body dont have a tatto in his right arm, Alexis had a Tatto in his right arm...

  • something is not right about how the fight ended, why would the referee try to stop the fight be for the knock out, view the video. much respect to arguello and my he rest in peace.

  • Did u ever watch the fight? The entire fight? It was the same pace round after round.....why let the fighter get hurt?? Mancini was losing the fight and Arguello was up on every score card...why would you want the fighter to get hurt?

  • R.I.P. Champ

  • RIP, Senor

  • Nicaragua te recordara, flaco

  • he was one of the bests

  • GRACIAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • No se si es el 3er latino mejor de todos los tiempos o quien era el 1er el 2do....que se yo???? .....El Hombre era un caballote!!!!!... Gracias Alexis, siempre te amaremos!!........Siempre!!!

    Puerto Rico

  • @magento89 Sorry, my Spanish isn't very good, but you are right: Wilfred "The Dragon" Benitez--one of the greatest ever! I am sorry to see what has happened to him. God bless him.

  • He was involved in politics. But he DID NOT commit suicide! Everything was staged by the Sandinistas to make it seem as a suicide. The letter that he supposedly wrote before his death says that he had been using drugs 2 days before his death, and the forensic findings show NO SIGN of drugs in his body at all!!!!

  • How Alexis died seems a little bit fishy to me. Tbh.

  • Tell me, who kills themself with a gunshot to the chest? Sounds like bull shit to me.

  • @OldHickory I agree with you it is bullshit.

  • @OldHickory A man who worries about how he would look to his family in a casket with his head blown off. It is a matter of consideration and respect to his family, it happens quite often, in fact most women who commit suicide shoot themselves in the chest for the same reason.

  • @OldHickory Hemmingway did it that exact same way. except he blew his brains out

  • @OldHickory They don't show how He hugged Ray Sr. after the fight. He had to much class and love for His people! Suicide My Ass

  • el mejor entre los mejores, alexis campeon!

    jamas se te olvidara!

  • R.I.P . Viva NIcaragua

  • Alexis Arguello got involved in politics in Nicaragua and became mayor of Managua after a crooked election. He did commit suicide but he was also into drug so tha influenced his decision a great deal

  • He was involved in politics. But he DID NOT commit suicide! Everything was staged by the Sandinistas to make it seem as a suicide.

  • This fight was a huge step up in competition for Mancini. El Flaco schooled many other great fighters as well.

  • RIP champ

  • Yes, it killed me to hear he might have killed himself.

He was an amazing fighter & man.

  • It's interesting that Arguello jabbed a lot less in this fight.

  • ALEXIS THE BEST Descanse en paz CAMPION .

  • rip from ireland

  • Wow... What a shock. As a young boxing fan and novice boxer, I watched Alexis in the ring many, many times. What a tremendous boxer, and a class act both in and out of the ring. His passing saddens me... God Bless You, Alexis and may you rest in peace.

  • was Arguello a suicide? If so was he demented from his boxing years, even a great champion like Alexis took a lot of punches to his head, a damn shame

  • Don't blame boxing, bill. Arguello's father contemplated suicide. Looks more like a genetic predisposition to depression.

  • Everyone here has hit it on the head. "Class" That's the best word to describe Arguello. True class. I wish all boxers had his class. I'd love the sport even more. RIP Flaco!

  • RIP CHAMP

  • RIP CHAMP

Known as "The Explosive Thin Man", Arguello was the sixth man to win world titles in three different weight divisions and was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1992.

  • I remember Arguello beating the likes of Olivares, Escalera, Chacon, I mean knocking them out! Alexis had this style with a rocker launcher in the right had, that exploded in the opponent´s jaw! Yet, the one thing you are certainly accurate on, unlike today's obnoxious fighters, is how humble, caring and gentleman this individual was. Therein is the true loss to the sport, his skills as a boxer and as a human being. RIP Alexis Argüello Three-Time World Champion! RIP Gentleman of the Ring.

    Q.D.E.P.

  • Alexis Argüello PORQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!.... Q.E.P.D

  • Alexis Arguello was a class act. RIP Hall Of Famer!

  • que buen puñeatzo

  • R.I.P. ALEXIS ARGUELLO.

    Forever an iconic nicaraguan fighter.

    We miss you

  • i remember watching this fight when i was a kid. Saturday afternoon on ABC, the good ole days. Alexis was a GREAT. Sad news, RIP.

  • Nunca te olvidaremos Alexis

    David Hernandez M.

    Managua, Nicaragua

  • BOX' IN 'PEACE CHAMP!

  • Farewell to the greatest light weight of all time and the pride of Managua!!!

  • Hasta siempre TriCampeon!!

  • RIP Alexis Arguello from Lima Peru

  • you must be mentally dumb because mancini was a fag and is overrated still to this day.

  • Two great champions.

  • I feel sorry for Mancini in this fight. He was like the young little engine that could.

  • if you think ray looked bad in this one look at him against livingston bramble!

  • Arguello was the supreme sharp shooter. Clean, economical and on the mark. Almost balletic in his form. Like a dancer with a sting.

  • Just look at olive oil skinny arm Arguello long smart bombing the macho hooker to death. I love boxing. Always bet on smart bomber over walk in take out too many punch hooker

  • see arguello go 2 mancini s corner after the fight put his arm around ray thats class never be anpther arguello everrrr

  • Alexis Arguello is the greatest boxer ever. That why my father named me after him.

  • i don't think so. What about Sugar Ray Robinson? What about Henry Armstrong? How about Ali? I'm sure Arguello is not better than anyone of those fighters mentioned above. Arguello is one of the greatest but not the greatest.

  • @al1ex1is1 Same here :D

  • Alexis arguello,in my opinion, was the greatest lightweight of alltime.

  • Arguello was best known as the gentlemen of the ring. he was a very humble man in and out of the ring.

  • Those were the days. Great boxers that respected the game.

  • un grande Arguello

  • DAMN, that combination was sharp/accurate as hell

  • Alexis was the most stylish let alone the strongest of his generation. A texbook of boxing orthodoxy.

  • They don't make fighters like Alexis anymore. He was a true gentleman both in and out of the ring, and was one hell of a fighter to boot!

  • Agreed. Alexis WAS great in and out of the ring.

Too bad he has now become a miserable thieving Sandinista, and is the little pet mascot of his owner Daniel Ortega.

  • What a champion - he beat one Britain's finest (Jim Watt) to win lightweight crown. Always a shame that he and Sanchez never met due to circumstances. Legend!

  • The way that this man knocked people out made the actual TASK of knocking people out look insignificant.

  • viva nicaragua!

  • arguello vs sanchez?.....my choice has a bias. I have seen about 14 of his to 4 of the other guys fights, the guys a dead ringer for my brother, oh and im mexican. so u kno my pik... i got boxing reasons too

  • One of the most classiest men to ever step into a ring. A hero not just to Nicaraguans, but to all people everywhere.

Mancini was a beast in his own right. Great fight.

  • They had trouble "selling" this fight, because both contestants were nice guys and well liked.

  • Alexis was all class!

  • I remember watching this fight live with my dad Mario. i grew up watching Alexis Arguello and now as a dad myself I took my son David who is 6 years old to the International Boxing Hall of Fame to meet Arguello and as always Alexis, a true gentleman took time out to take photos with my son! Thank you Alexis! You are a true boxing Legend!

  • durado you're a jerk off, what did i say i met GOD ?

iT'S NO secret he's good friends with hall of fame jockey angel cordero jr who introduced me......me and angel are in the same biz and you're a moron's moron....he told me he hit harder then aron pryor....too bad alexis was well into his 30's by the time he met arron.

  • i net alexis on the street in 1987 his hand shake was like lead not a squees just very heavy hands.... he told me Mancini hit him Harder then anyone he ever fought....AFTER THE FIGHT HE TOLD MANCINI SOME DAY you will be champ and he was right.....3 years later Mancini MAY have beat him.....you'll think i am crasy but i think ALEXIS MIGHT have taken Duran.

  • ur lying out of ur ass. u never met alexis.

  • first of steroids don't help u take punches better, n second pryor didn't need em in his first fight wit arguello. in d 2nd fight threre was no controversy on whether he took somethin or not, n he whupped arguellos ass even worse n made him quit. he proved he was just a better fighter

  • actually steroids do help you take punches as they make you more durable and pryor failed a urine test after both fights with arguello if you can last fourteen rounds with a juicer and fuck him up face it your the better fighter arguello against a clean pryor would have murdered him

  • im not sure that he failed the urine test from their second bout

  • SO THE FUCKER WAS ON JUICE!

  • At 140, Arguello was his prime at 126.

  • you must be another ugly looking ass monkey defending a cheater(pryor) who his cheater trianer panama lewis was banned for being a cheater!

  • i dont believe pryor was a cheater, i really doubt he knew. panama lewis, hell yeah. but that aint on pryor though. feel me?

both pryor and arguello were great fighters. pryor beat him legit, like it or not. u can blame it on arguello being past his prime, above his best weight, bad styles matchup.. whatever. but as for the 2 fights by them own self. pryor won legit. aight?

im not ugly or none of that, man. what the fuck..

  • Don't you know the story about PRYOR drinking a PANAMA LEWIS SECRET MIX fromt the mistery black bottle just before the start of the 14th ROUND ???

  • "i dont believe pryor was a cheater, i really doubt he knew. panama lewis, hell yeah. but that aint on pryor though. feel me?"

ofcourse i know. read what i said.. all i said was pryor isnt a cheater cuz how the hell is he gonna know panama lewis mixed something in the bottle? pryor is worried about fighting the biggest fight of his life, why would he care about the fucking water bottles? lewis spiked it, and gave it to pryor, he didnt know and he drank it. pryor didnt know so he isnt a cheater.

  • yeah Prior whipped argullo's ass coz prior had taken steroids or something? how do you guys explain the way Prior handled argullo's power which was amazing.

    jose

  • steroids??????

you dont know what your talking about.

the controversy was over th bottle Pryor drak from in the first fight.you dont drink steroids you idiot. Pryor handled Tommy Hearns power too,and Cervantes,he was super tough and in great condition

  • Mancini was only twenty years old in this fight. He shouldnt have even been in the ring. But I am sure glad he did.Great fight Arguello was clearly the better skilled fighter and he is a gentlemen.I always respected Arguello for that.

  • twenty years of age is a good age for boxing, come on your stamina is at it´s peak!! look at tyson

  • Pound for pound, Arguello had the best straight-right in boxing. Holy crap, he was powerful! He was also a gentleman and compassionate, concerned about the well-being of his victims. A true sportsman.

  • Arguello was a great fighter/boxer and also a class act a true gentleman.

Hard to be those things in the corrupt world of Don King boxing.

  • Alexis Arguello is undoubetedly one of the legends of the sport. Tough, smart, resilient, he won championships in three different weight classes -- the first to achieve that distinction since the great Henry Armstrong. He didn't have the speed, power or youth to dispatch Aaron Pryor as a junior welterweight, though. Pryor was an incredible young fighter, but I'm still wondering what Panama Lewis put in his bottle in the 14th round.

  • Arguello had class - Forget all this Mayweather none sense. Those were the days!

In fact, Aaron Pryor v today's Mayweather would be an over rated mismatch!

  • latino whipping gringa ass

  • OK, but understand that the beautiful Latinas prefer us Anglo White Guys.

You macho Latino guys are free to date, marry bitter over educated feminist bitchest like Hillary Rodham Clinton.

    :-)

Be careful what you wish for you might just get get. Don't fight with White guys or you might be forced to marry feminist White women.

    :-)

  • I guess you never seen Scarface haaaaaaaaahaaaaa :-)

  • yeah, those bitches prefer anglos, they are a disgrace but it´s because they can´t control us, or maybe you have more money haha, I´m gonna start dating anglo red-neck chicks they rule!!!

  • i remember watching this fight as a kid, good ole days when great fights were on regular tv on a saturday afternoon. probably one of the greatest 5 punch combinations ever.

  • brutal

  • Mancini was a tough kid, but a little out-classed vs. Arguello. Arguello was beaten by Pryor because he moved up into a weight class he didn't belong in to try to attain a 4th world title. Nobody could touch him in the lower weight classes. In the lightweight division, I doubt anyone could punch harder than Arguello in his prime.

  • Exactly! I dug both the fighters, this was one of those fights where you didn't want to see anyone lose! Both great champions!

  • What about Edwin Rosario? Or Jose Luis Ramirez? Ramirez claimed that Rosario hits harder than Arguello. Arguello is problably the hardest hitting 130lbs ever.

  • ese flaco tenia dinamita en los puños

  • Arguello was my favorite fighter so there's only so far I will go for the sake of a debate, but I saw all of those fighters with the exception of Marcel, Kobayashi and Watt. All good fighters but nothing exceptional. With the exception of Edwards and the ever elusive Fernandez, none of these fighters would have lasted longer than 6 rounds with Pryor.

  • I had to really search to find an intelligent post and you were right on with the exception of the last post. With the exception of Olivares one could argue that Arguello record was also light. Chacon, Limon and Escalera were notable exceptions however Pryor was and continues to be the highlight of his career. Both needed to each other to make them the names they are today.

  • learn about boxing fool..arguello had won in 3 weight classes!!

  • Crap man, the fight was turned around and over in a second.

  • arguello is broke nowadays.

  • yeah bramble...bramble would give many fighters trouble...he was more of a gatekeeper...i remember watching bramble beat mancini..twice...the fight with camacho seemed to come a couple of years to late

  • what a fuckin tough fighter man.....this gut was the TRUTH!! my father got tapes of this guy and he was a problem. head and hands were cinderblocks!

  • BUM.A fast first giudo brawler!

  • i hope no body here calls Mayorga a boxer, he is a braller has no tecnich nor education, what a shame he is Nicarguan, he is joke for us all

  • arguello. best fighter pound for pound that's ever lived. he lost to pryor, but only because pryor cheated, or his corner cheated.

  • Why is there always one of you? I could go to a highlight vid or Reggie Strickalnd and there would be some idiot claiming he was the best P4P fighter of all time. Seriously, just because you like someone doesn't make them the best ever! I have him top 25 but not much higher.

  • arguello the first 3 time world champion aaron pryor who??? oh yeah the drug adict

  • Haha, there were a lot of drug addicts in the 80s.
