  • Can anyone tell me what genre of acoustic music this is, mostly at the start, it sounds like western guitar. Can anyone recommend similar artists to that style.

  • @RuZzaM I dont really think its a completely recognized Genre.. you can see Any Mckee, Usman Riaz etc for similar stuff

  • open tunings are for posers!

  • My god this guy is clever!! well done Don!

  • why this video doesn't have millions of views?

  • yaaaaa

ive listened to this s0 many times..

  • Who knows where posible to get tabs for Its Only Goodbye by Don Alder?? Nice song!!! Can buy, write me PM

  • thats great man - very tasteful

  • I was very happy to see, unlike every other acoustic tapper on here, you played some regular fingerstyle in the song as well. Way to keep it diverse. It's so annoying when the right hand spends the same amount of time on the fingerboard as the left. Allthought I do think the piece has a sameness of sound that makes it dull to the listener after a while. It needs to progress more. Maybe a key change would help give the composition more direction.

  • the thing with these songs is that they are so complex that you have to listen to them many times before you get an idea of their structure. Also, it doesn't get dull at all.

  • FABULOUS

  • wow. thats funky, and calming. i like it!!

  • Ultimate............

  • i love it bro.

  • That neck seems a little long to me for some reason... is that a baritone?

  • It's kind of hard to hear him from either the vid definition, or my headphones, which is sad because it looks and, from what i can hear, sounds incredible.

He rivals Andy Mckee, even though i do believe Dan is more professional.

  • The percussive technique you play just shows what more the instrument can do, I wish to learn this someday. Well done!

  • AMAZING MAN!!!!

  • A W E S O M E !!!!!

    More PLEASE!!

  • My Wife and I saw you in Vernon Bc On Nov 8/07 You blew us away.

  • you guys who play this style are my heroes! If all those people who listen to main-stream music today, the radio fanatics don't have a clue, this is REAL music!!!

  • As a response to some of the comments ..

tapping / harmonics are easy with effects

i dont use effects .. amplification in general helps emmesely.

you need to sound the harmonic well to get good results with the effects .. so i disagree

2 this is not tapping .. Don Alder is WORLD RENOWNED for his tapping .. tapping is associated with hi NAME .. overhand one hand tapping IS tapping ..

Jeff Williams NiNja ALeiN RoBoT GuiTaRiST :) hehe

  • hey don .. just stopping by too hear some great world class internatioinal fingerstyle champion guitar playing :) .. its a great way to wake up :) 5 stars as always .. thanks for being such a wonderful friend :)

    your friend Jeff

    Jeff Williams

NiNja ALeiN RoBoT GuiTaRiST :) haha ..

  • OMG thats how a guitar should be used ! Great work maaan

  • I have the honor of working with this man...go Don you're the best man!

    -Kevin

  • i read an article this morning that he (don alder) was crowned international finger-style guitar champion so i search him here found he's really good. that's unbelievable. congrats!

  • god ur good!!!

  • i just i got to see don alder live at the music fest at my house, his concert was amazing....it was also cool to hang out with him afterwards, he is great

  • Really sweet

  • very good! He is proffesional

  • Cool stuff man!

  • Any special tuning?

  • says its dadgad at the beginning of the video

  • ugh, I'm so sick of little faggots who would have no idea what theyre talking about trying to compare acoustic guitarists to like malmsteen or something..

    or just comparing in general..

just enjoy the fuckin' music guys seriously its great..

  • qft

  • qft?

lol sorry don't know what that means :S

  • qtf means quit talking faggot

  • I don't believe anyone ever said that either guitarist (though Rhett Butler seems to have been disregarded in other comments) was better. I personally only stated that I prefer Don Alder to Andy McKee and Rhett Butler.

  • I understood your first comment, right on, its the other meatheads that always try to do the WHOS better.. ridiculous it is.

  • Well put

  • du grand art

  • I don't know...Andy McKee is pretty good...

  • Two different styles. It's just a matter of preference. Technically Don Alder is superior but Andys songwriting is awsome.

  • Youre right, both use different styles both doing different techniques and theres the beauty of it right there.. so enjoy both .. you may like chocolat better then vanilla or vice versa but one isnt better then the other. But perhaps thats what you guys were trying to say.

  • @MTillsley I wouldn't say Don Alder is superior. They're both fantastic at what they do, but I think Andy is a better fingerstyle guitarist. Don is however, a better harp guitarist in my opinion.

  • very good;D

  • Man, that is some great picking!!!

  • I hope that a few decades from now, I become half as proficent at the guitar as this gentleman. I like this man far better than Andy McKee and Rhett Butler.

  • Don great job! That's quite the number of views! I saw you play at the 2006 Vancouver Guitar Show and we share a great teacher Mr. Martone! Cheers and all the best!

  • I like this piece better than Kakai King's "Playing with Pink Noise." It's more rounded and integrates tapping with the music instead of just focusing on it. Damn fine playing.

  • ...beats having a druumer...

    awesome

  • hearing this makes me want to sit and play my guitar for 10 hours a day, so that I can approach a skill level like this. madagascar!!

  • Check out Andy Mckee... He does the EXACT same thing in his song, "Drifting".

  • I wish I could play as good as him...

  • Im seeing him tonight at the dancing bean

  • i met this guy live.. he is awsome

  • Amazing technic! Mixing very good picking and cool tapping with the percussions! wow that's great

  • lawl he plays the bongos on the guitar!! 5 stars

  • I love the way he plays with all heart - raw and amazing all at the same time!

  • Very nice pice of music, loving those bluesy bends in parts of the melody :D

  • eugene levy plays guitar>?

  • seriously, this guy must be on steroids x) It's just to good to be human.

  • who are these people you guys are atalking about

  • All great players mentioned above why compare?..just enjoy it...it's not like you are buying a car....also some like vanilla ice cream some like chocolate one better than the other?..NO, just different..its music mates, take it all in...and this is FREE... my God!

  • yes, though i have never heard of this man he fucking rocks

  • effin owns...w00t

  • This IS NOT tapping. Sorry! its some awesomely melodical tones geting PICKED and Strummed, with slapping the body and abstract hand positioning, though there are short instances involving tapping.

  • Very impressive but I would not call this tapping like the tapping Erik Mongrain does. Its pretty much a guitar spank fest and playing on the wrong side of the neck but still very impressive, I just woudn't call it tapping.

  • Erik Mongrain is overrated...These guys (Alder, Ross, Hedges, McKee, DuFour, etc), they don't need effects. Mongrain gets that sound because his guitar is pre-amped through a ridiculous chorus effects setting which artificially brings out the harmonics. Anyone can tap harmonics when you've got the guitar running through effects settings.

  • serious?

  • So, still sounds good.

  • It's good because he sounds amazing, but he isn't just showing off his chops, his actually making good music. A rare thing nowadays.

  • I totally agree

  • very cool

  • whoa thats cool

  • pure brilliance

  • this is so cool, man this is awesome

  • this is superb :) a must see for all dropped-D players
