My toddler does this same thing and her neurologist believes she has rett syndrome, as parents when we worry it's just best to ask your pediatrician, cuz it might be something or it could be nothing to worry about. But it's best to know....I hope she doesn't have anything, God bless
@sdsurf8469 As for the video, I don't know. My son has autism... but when this video was taken, it seems like your baby was really too young for me to form an opinion on it. I see that this was uploaded in 2008... how is she now? :)
The person who said that, "75 percent of children who are autistic actually suffer from some form of down syndrome" doesn't know what they're talking about. They're not the same thing at all.
I came across this video when my son was about 7 months old. He did exactly the same thing, and I nearly had a nervous breakdown worrying about autism. At 15 months, he outgrew it and is perfectly fine! Not saying it cannot be a sign of something more serious, but for my son it definitely was not and I spent a lot of time worrying about nothing.
She is responding well for her age, but the hand movements could possibly be a symptom. There are many levels, degrees, and severities of Autism. 75 percent of children who are autistic actually suffer from some form of down syndrome. Just heads up. 1 in every 100 kids now, 70 percent are boys though.
Hi. You have a beautiful baby. I have watched all your videos. This last one was posted in Dec, did your baby girl end up being diagnosed with anything? My baby girl is 6 and half months, and does the identical hand and wrist movements as your daughter. I am a pediatric RN, and have never seen this before. Thank you for your info.
well unfurtunately its quite random maybe worrying of being rett syndrome butt as quinocake said she looke when she was called thats great sign just keep and eye on that movement and how she responses to her enviroment doubt she has some sort of autism god bless ur beautiful baby
you called her name twice, and she turned to look at your face. That is a good sign. Babies with autism don't turn to look at your face when you call their names. Typical children do that between 6- 12 months. You are doing great. Play with her on the floor 4 hours a day and encourage joint attention. Joint attention is what babies and toddlers do not do that typical babies do. I would take her to an Occupational therapist to check for Sensory integration disorder.
Lots and lots of babies do hand flapping things. Please do not worry about your little girl who is doing just fine - just keep appreciating her and interacting with her as you do; no need to feel any anxiety, and probably best for all of you if you don't! cheers, enjoy your sweet daughter and have a great Christmas

My 8 month old does the same... Please stop driving yourself crazy with worry. I know, it's hard not to worry, because even I do.

My babies both did this. Never had anything wrong with them and they just stopped doing it when they got older. I think it's perfectly normal.

@eternalsunshine816 Asperger's is usually the case. Watch out for other symptoms of it.

Your baby is perfectly fine and beautiful! Serious, nothing abnormal about her hand movements. She's playing.

My son did that starting at 5 months old, right after his shots. He'd flap both hands at the wrist, holding things and not.
He was diagnosed with PDD-NOS in 2006.
My son has always responded to his name. They are all different.
