yeah, this year of rodeo (98) is plagued with problems..I've heard the manifold and doughnut gaskets can cause rough idle and other. They changed alot in this model and had a lot of bugs, but I also had a 95 with 300k when sold, and still going strong.
@scorpionfire777 I never knew these cars had that many problems. Also the Isuzu in the video is a 2000 model year. My dad previously had a '92 and that never had any problems.
I have a 1998 2.2L, and mine doesn't stall, but I have other problems you mentioned. I have the stiff key problem. What I usually do is rotate the wheel a little and turn the ignition and it rotates. Mine also used to rev by itself. Usually revs up and stays at 3000 RPM. It's probably the throttle cable getting stuck. It hasn't done it in a few months though.
I like my Rodeo, but this car just has loads of problems.
Its your intake manifold gasket! Thats what was wrong with mine.About the same mileage.99 Rodeo V6, Changed out that gasket and didnt have that problem any more
did you ever have problems with the turn signals or the windows not going down? I'm having the same starting problems too and my intermittent wipers aren't working and I was suspecting the fuel pump and a few fuses but after seeing this vid now I'm thinking I need to redo the electrical on the whole truck or my computer is going bad
@2004NissanSentra Yes these trucks are know for having problems with their intermittent wipers. On this car they do not work. If you switch them on they just move up a bit thats all. But there is a relay that can be fixed that is behind the dashboard on the passenger side.
@NorthStarOlds I was told that in order to replace the relay you need to rip the whole computer apart behind the dash, and since I'm having other problems (my driver window not working, my turn signals not working, starting problems), I'm thinking I might as well replace the whole computer behind the dash rather than just replace one fuse only for something else to go out on me again. And you said something about the wiring harness, and I'm thinking mine is going bad too.
@2004NissanSentra With your broken driver window, does it move at all when you try to open it or does it just not do anything? Because if you've seen my videos on my Dodge Grand Caravan the windows don't work on that car either. The driver window is stuck(it moves when you try to open the window about like an inch and gets stuck) but with the passenger window it doesn't even move and I believe the motor went bad but I'm not sure because that van is having electrical problems too.
@NorthStarOlds If it tries to move and doesn't or sputters then your motor is out, at least that's the case in my grandpa's Jeep. On mine, I press the switch to roll it down and it does absolutely nothing, so it is sounding more like a wiring issue still because I didn't hear it sputter or try to go out on me before it did, it just decided not to roll down one day.
@2004NissanSentra Yeah the passenger window in the GC just doesn't move on the passenger side I believe its the motor because when it did work it went really slow and sometimes did't go back up when down and the driver's window is stuck. I took apart the door once and watched it move a little and you can tell its stuck. But in the Rodeo the rear passenger window is getting kinda sluggish going back up.
i got the same ploblem w/my rodeo 98 went i drieve the engine stop three time olmost the same time and run for weeks fine. happen agien so i don't what happen help please .thank you
I was going to say try running better gas but if it idles higher sometimes my be an intake manifold leak. Im here because i was thinking on getting one lol.I dont know now it seems they have a few bugs.thanks.
my old isuzu did that and the best way i found to help is when its doing it is to put it to just about the floor and hold it at about 6 rpms and it helps
@NorthStarOlds holly shit thatz alot for a truck thats only worth about $3,000...oh well i guess im going to eventually have it fixed cuz itz getting worse.
every rodeo missfires after they come out of the factory i put a performance chip [to make higher idle speed] and dual exsaust my idle always stays at 1000 it never moves
you cant turn the distriutor on this i love old car fuck computers
I can't believe I didn't catch this vid when u put it up. I knew it was the wiring system considering I had this happen to me(not on my rodeo I have now, but my 79 camaro and 87 honda). Other thing I was gonna say is also do a tune up on it. Basically change out the spark wires, plugs, and coil. Fouled plugs or anything between the plus and coil can cause that as well.
Did you ever got it fixed? Your problem likely be the Fuel Pump and/or the Relay. My rodeo has a similar problem, but just hard of starting, low fuel pressure after a fuel sending unit replaced.
did you find out why it did this ? Mine is having the same issue ... I cleaned the Iddler control valve and thats help does not stall but still does the strang thing with the gas peddle ...
hey did you ever figure out the prob mine is having the same issue???? ... I did clean the idler control and in does not stall out anymore but still does the thing with the gas sticking so might need to replace it ....
I'm sure by now you have either fixed or gotten rid of this suv but...1st i have never seen a temp gauge move that fast to operating temp If you are having a problem with the temp sensor or sending unit I'm not sure whats installed on Isuzu's but it will wreak havoc on your vehicles ability to remain running. Check the thermostat and have and temp sensors checked.
Check grounds from the battery. There is a large negative wire coming from the battery, this then bolts to the alternator and the body of the truck, check and make sure those are very tight, solid, and not corroded.
ALSO, check the fuel pump relay. Open the relay box near the battery, if your headlights are working perfect, remove the FUEL PUMP relay, remove the head lamp relay, put the head lamp relay in place of the fuel pump's relay's spot. ...
IF this fixed your problem, get a new standard automotive relay, around $10
Check all small rubber hoses and see if they're cracked.. these are vacuum hoses, these hoses create air suction to allow some mechanical parts to function, similar to a air-powered wrench, if there is a leak in any of the hoses, this will cause the engine to do erratic things, if the vaccuum pressure goes low, the engine computer will rev the engine, just what it does sometimes..had one of those hoses come off of the 4x4 actuator, this caused weird cold start problems. Fixed the hose, repaired.
CHECK YOUR FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR. It's located on top of the engine toward the rear - right (closest to the steering wheel would be the best way to say it. It may be covered by the plastic engine over, that cover pulls right off easily. The Regulator is about 1" in diameter, brass colored, has a small rubber hose plugged into the top of it.
These can be replaced for pretty cheap, may as well just change it, see if that resolves it.
since isuzu no longer has dealers take it too a honda dealer. the honda passport was made by isuzu so the two cars are the same essentially i.e. powertrain, hardware, etc. so honda is prolly familiar with this problem
Actually there is an Isuzu dealer near by we are going to bring it there soon, I just wanted to see what people would say about it because no one could figure it out.
@NorthStarOlds actually you might want to check with toyota about the self accelerating problem because they're having this big recall on their cars because they were accelerating by themselves.
