I have a JCM 800. Its a great amp, sounds brutal, but its gotta be cranked to get that sound, and this seems a tad more versatile while being able to achieve that JCM 800 sound. Any thoughts?>
hey man, i have this amp... jcm 2000 dsl... .... ... but, I'm not sure how to plug it in... in the back, or what it all means.. on the cab there is 2 inputs a 4 and 16 0hm.. which one do I plug into? I'm not using a stereo cord so the switch is on mono.... on the head there are 3 outputs... 16, 4 & 8 0hm jacks..... and also a 4/8 0hm switch.... which jack and switch do I use??
First thing you gotta do is get either a MXR EQ or a BBE Sonic Stomp in your FX loop. 2nd get a set of Tung-Sol preamp tubes. They'll deff help you get more gain. Or put some NOS Telefunkin in V2 and V3. 3rd is get a set of Electro Harmonix 6CA7 power tubes to tighten up the fuzziness. That will run you about 250 bucks if you know how to bias the power tubes. Preamp tubes are self-baising. Or get a THD HotPlate or the cheap route - Ibanez Tube King kicks freakin ass through a DSL!
@lastangelsofrock Yeah it has a lot of gain on its own. But if you ever need more, you can easily throw a Tube Screamer or OverDrive pedal in front of it and this baby SCREAMS!
im looking to get a real nice powerful distortion/overdrive from a marshall to get the early Van Halen sound. I dont really want to buy the 5150's because there too darn expensive :P would you recommend this amp? and if not this one what other marshall amp would be best for the early Van Halen sound. thanks very much
for those sounds i think a jcm800 or the Vintage Modern is better, the 2000 has a darker and slightly more modern sound. Cleans are pretty decent tho, it's no Fender, but better than previous marshalls.
i have this amp and and yes its a very good amp for Stuff like that. I never played an jcm 800 but i think its a killer amp too. But this one is easyer to handle because you have 2 channels not 1. Vintage Modern is also a realy cool Amp
hey man, sorry for my ortographic errors, i don't speak english but................. what is the price of marshall dsl 100.......... please answer my question thanks
i don't think they're made anymore, it was 1600$ CDN new, way overpriced, i got mine for 850$, including a modified transformer from mercury magnetics
I don't know a lot about the pedals they used. If they used any. :D Get a Mesa boogie Mark III head, and you'll get close to their sound. Or get a Marshall DSL or TSL. And play a bit with the sounding of the amp.
I've spent quite a while on listening to the characteristics of power amp saturation, which is what you're referring to... Because I have an isolation cabinet, which lets me crank my amp up very high without annoying people...
If you want recording tone, you're gonna have to take it up to at least 4... now 4 is gonna piss a lot of people off unless you have some sort of attenuation... you could buy a THD Hot Plate for attenuation which is like having a class A amp.
boosterguild do wot i do... two 2x12 cab's 150w each 1 either side of the stage it spreads your sound no end.... really like no bulls*^% you'll kick ass
Hello everybody!!!I'm gonna buy this amp so i need your advice what cabinet should i buy...i was thinking of buying 2x12 cause it's enough for my gigs cause i play in clubs...so tell me what do you think about it?
Yea, Marshall's are basically made for the classic rock sound, the DSL just has more gain with deep/tone shift etc. I would try to trade for a Mesa if you're into the thick scooped mids sound.
Good advice, yes, but I know I can achieve the sound I want with a DSL100.
Take a look at Trivium. Matt Heafy uses the Marshall DSL100 exclusively and he has some of the beefiest/crunchiest tone out there. He runs them straight into EQ's and that's it.
yh but thats all based on ur own preference. it all depends on what ur going for. if u want a tight high gain low end metal tone then a mesa is one of the top dogs but if ur wanting a classic tone ur gona need something like a vox ac30, jcm 800, plexi or fender delux etc. for 80's maybe a 5150 or something. no amp can be universily rated its all dependant on style and whether u do ur research before buying one.
I can always get the super chug-a-lug on my Marshall. The Mesa's I owned were too harsh sounding and I can get a WAY heavier tone on a Marshall DSL then on a Mesa.

Is this amp good for that Swedish Death Metal sound? ie Scar Symmetry, Miseration, In Flames, Soilwork, Dark Tranquility, The Few Against Many ect...
From the AMPS distortion
The7thL 2 years ago
Well... I'm not sure, but I think you'll have to look at ENGL, Mesa or something heavier.
Although Matt Heafy from Trivium is using one, so it's not that far away.
Second thought, I think this amp can be used to almost anything. :)
FreddySeeFreddyDo 2 years ago
ENGL is like 999999999 trillion dollars...Mesa is 5555555 trillion...
I can't afford an ENGL or a Mesa, even though they're both GREAT amps
I'm probably gonna end up getting a Peavey 6505+ aka "the Poor Man's Mesa"
I just that I have no job...other than that...I'd DEFINATELY save up get an ENGL
The7thL 2 years ago
Yeah, ENGL and Mesa are expensive. I'm also planning on buying this, the DSL or the JCM 800 because their competitors are so expensive.
FreddySeeFreddyDo 2 years ago
What type of tone are YOU looking for?
The7thL 2 years ago
Well, I'm looking for a nice Metal tone, of course.
If I'm going to be more specific, I would say a bit Trivium- and Metallica-ish.
FreddySeeFreddyDo 2 years ago
Then a Marshall's perfect for that!!
Just turn the Bass all the way up, The Mids all the way DOWN, and Treble all the way up
And of course the Gain MUST be cranked

could you recomend any hard rock settings for the amp?
CaddyWumpasyyz 3 years ago
keep the treble and presence low, boost mids and bass, dime the gain. That's the basic setting in the video.
dualstagef1 3 years ago
That's more of a classic rock setting, but it DOES sound good.
I've got my mids set around 5 and my treble's pretty high.
Best I can do until I get an EQ to dip the mids without taking the tone from the amp...
OniLink2k2 3 years ago

How do you get that teethy chug, I find my dsl 100 just doesnt have a tight sound so have been thinking of getting a dual rec
blowoffsorrow 3 years ago
You can change the tone a lot with the types of tubes you put in. For example if you want a tight bass response try the JJ EL34's. If you want more mids, try the Svetlana's. Both have their downsides though. I'm trying to scrape up enough money to get a set of Winged C's, those should be perfectly balanced.
dualstagef1 3 years ago
no, a greater sound is: treble 8/9, mid 4/5, bass 6/7.
:D
vsnoise 3 years ago
Treble 5-6, bass 6, mid 2-3, presence up to 5.
ultra gain channel. thats the best hard rock and heavy metal sound on most of the amps.
