I think Valve try to make there characters look normal, instead of people like Ezio or Lara Croft designed to be attractive cause they're model on supermodels and stuff. Oh, btw, You know the level where you get to see all he potato battery things, the massive overgrown one is signed By Chell. (And I managed to spell that and Reasonably Wrong :))

Watching this made me understand Chells backstory:

She was a clone, created with science. There are clones of said clone. You start the game in a pod because when the clones are ready, they put the clone in the pod into the "relaxation chamber" for more testing. Then they die somehow. Repeat.

This isn't canon. It's from The Flash Version (actually, it's from Still Alive). The Flash Version is a Flash made game of Portal, that is non-canon. They added those levels to the game.

black mesa also tried to develop a portal gun but failed and while that happened aperature science desided to beat them at black mesa's project.
