  • I love dorian mode. You are very good guitar player. Good luck, Krzak, Warsaw

  • Matt this without question one of the best lessons of its type on the net (and as you know there are quite a few). Thank you very much. Youre an exceptional player.

  • the riff starting at 2:28 was the same scale in the song in zelda 64 in sarias forest

  • @Drew927 Ha ha! Really?

  • @Drew927 ya if you listen to sarias song in ocarana of time (zelda 64) that same run is used same accending scale at one point. they have some of the recordings on yourtube and people playign that song check it out

  • The guys that know the theory are so often the best pickers out there! Very nice lesson!

  • U are a beast man!

  • That was great,,, that will really add something to my playing,,,,many thanks!!

  • Great stuff! I'm getting my scales down pretty good, now when do u usually play this scale over only the Dm chord or over a whole song or progression in Dm? In other words, does the D Dorian (C Maj) scale work over an entire progression or do you play this over that chord only? Aren't you only adding a note to the Dm pent anyway? The maj 6? Thanks....

  • Excellent: you have a nice style -- superb

  • @Jwolf2011 Thank you, my friend.

  • Cool! What sampling hardware did you use? Pedal?

  • Awesome dude. I hope someday play like that. I'm creating some licks now

  • man do i wish i could play guitar like that

  • really great video man..

  • Thanks mate, your a great teacher.

  • Hi, nice vid.

Question, do You pick up-down-up or do you sweep when moving to a lower or higher string? Are you focusing on your right hand while playing?

    thx

  • @derricaantonio I always try to alternate pick and not sweep to the next string (although I do make mistakes!). I don't focus on it as much as I used to, it becomes a second nature after a while. Cheers.

  • Thanks, I picked up something I'll find useful here I'm sure. I've been visiting many youtube presentations and this is very good.

  • I just stumbled upon your videos and I am really impressed with both your playing and your teaching. I have subscribed to your channel and look forward to all that you put up in the future. Well done.

  • Sounds great man! I have the same guitar I was wondering what kind of RS kit your using the Modern or VIntage?

  • I bought this kit 3 years ago and it was just called the 'Premium Upgrade Kit'. I know they've since brought out a vintage and modern kit. I'm not sure which category mine would be in, but I'm guessing vintage. Cheers.

  • Matt!! That was an absolutely brilliant lesson mate!! most lessons cover the scale but nott the patterns within the scale!! thanx so much, very valuable.

  • This is really hard! Looks easy but when i try to do it, i could n

  • it definitely made me sweat

  • bro thanks a lot for this lesson it really helped me to spice up my sound hehe great videos great lessons great channel great guitarrist :D u got me to subscribe right away hehe keep up the good work

  • Outrageously great lesson and excellent playing. I saw one of your original videos of you playing and realised immediately that you had something special. Even happier to know that you can teach well, too. Thanks. Five stars.

  • Just saw this again and HAD to comment on your face at 7.33 - it's that face that tells anyone watching that you're heading straight into guitarland! Haha. Nice one.

  • Really great vid man! :0) It might help alot if you showed some of your pattern ideas slowly (still in rhythm) and then speed them up for performance at the end. But overall there are some great ideas for phrasing here, and your playing is sweet ... not obsessively fast, just nice bluesy licks. Keep doing what you're doing player!!

  • Very nice phrasing - very melodic.

Your tone is so ear pleasing - its refreshing to hear basic setup (guitar>OD>tube amp). I could never get my modded TS9 to sound that warm - but my playing is no where as fluent either.

    A couple Q's

During your progression, what was your biggest hurdle/obstacle?

What has helped you the most in terms of musical growth?

    thanks for the post

    Kurt

  • hey dude what pedal are you using at the end of the vid to loop that blues riff?

  • I believe he uses a Line 6 DL4 Delay modeller. It has a 14 second loop sample function.

  • wow, man. you are my new favorite guitar player. I'd do anything to be your student.

  • Best review I ever seen. Dude your tone is amazing! you don't use much distortion and still makes some killer licks! I love that Gibson guitars (your sg rocks) do you have a les paul?

Thanks for the lessons, God bless!

  • Very nice...lots of info there,

    Thanks!

  • Beautiful, Soulful and Tasty, I really enjoyed this. I'm working on the major scale now and you let me see I'm on the right track!! Thanks

  • Great Stuff for musicians kind of like food for the musical soul. THanks!

  • you are my new hero of the week! I wish you lived in LA...I would love to have a one on one lesson.

  • Twin reverbs fo life!

  • great playing! I'm a new subscriber.. I'm not a gear head, tell me, what was that loop device you used at the end? a pedal? wonderful practice idea, I need one. Thanks a lot!

  • it's a green Line 6 pedal called the DL4 with a loop function. Hours of fun!!

  • Great lesson man...I hope you don't mind but i'm nicking all you're licks.

  • Music is there to be shared, that's the beauty of being able to post vids. Glad you want to nick some licks!

  • Who were you influences. You maybe able to play better then them. Your style is what I've been longing for for years. Were you taught. You have such taste. I like the middle switch all the way up to. A bassier tonne for smooth playing. You weve in and out of scales and just Greatness.

  • First of all thanks a million. It's comments like yours that make me want to play even more and get better as a guitarist. Youtube is a great outlet for me as I very rarely have the opportunity to endulge myself in the bands I play with. It's good to know there are people out there who appreciate it!

Influences...um...F Zappa,Warren Haynes, Steve Miller, Vai, Satriani,Kenny Burrell,Slash, Ritchie Kotzen, BB King, SRV, The Edge,Eric Johnson, Derek Trucks, Jimmy Herring, Joe Bonamassa...etc!

  • you truely are amazing man!

I'm just dissapointed you didn't put hendrix in that list haha

  • A very well done video. Great tips and examples. Really nice, tasteful playing throughout.

  • Thanks a million.

    dave

  • Awesome lesson!!! the first song is from Malmsteen?

  • Not as far as I know : ) It's just a scale, but I'm sure the mighty Yngwie uses it a lot!

  • thanks so much man love ur playing. i am no beginner but love your stuff..the way i see it is the more diverse and the more you open your ears to the better you are. so many great licks to learn from you thanks alot man already suscribed!

Saved to faves so I can digest the lesson. :D

  • Sweet! Very informative and "tasty".

    Thanks for posting.

  • Great video - you forgot to mention that most of that tone is from your fingers rather than anything else. :)

    *subscribed*

  • Nice one Matt - I've been over to Clon fishing the last three years and have caught you playing a couple of times in DBs - you have a great way of putting this stuff over - a dvd would be a good move I reckon

  • dang dude you should teach lessons

  • Great playing!!!! Thanks for all the info.

  • Very good choice in licks, m8. I love dorian with mixed pentatonics and passing tones.

  • Thank you very much for this lesson..you help me a lot for made my solos more interesting..

  • damn that that rocked. i loved your playing. make a CD ! :b i will buy :)

  • can i have the tab of the scale you mention and the patterns too

  • Keep them coming. I may even keep firing stupid questions your way.

  • So...to start my very long journey to play guitar like you, I should begin with learning the major scale all over the neck? Any more advice after that seems as though you're one of the sickest guitarists I've seen? That is, where should I go after that?

  • I think the next step is to learn the modes. If you have your major scale down, then you have your modes already, it's just a case of applying the appropriate modes to the key you're in. Maybe I should do a vid based on this (what do you think?). Thanks for the comment buddy, I appreciate the feedback. Take it easy!

  • Superb! Thanx!!!

  • Thnx, very nice playing !

  • great!!!!!

  • thanks for doing that! for me helped a load and your a decent player/teacher

  • more than just 'descent" dude.

  • Thanks alot for this vid man, helped me a lot. As always, great playing.

  • Thanks for the new ideas bro!

Are those the stock pick ups?
