@ChloebBlue Hi, it is bad if the membranes are so dry that the baby cannot progress or hatch. Many babies die during the hatching process because of dry membranes.
Classylady, wht happens if you help the baby hatch all the way? And nice nails ! Haha your really not kiding bout the ignorant people. You k ow wht your doing so keep making videos very helpful
@lovebedz Well, having had 40 years of experience with birds, he would have died during the hatching process. He was in the egg 24 days. He should have hatched in 18. While he started the process on the own, he was having difficulty due to dry membranes. No harm in helping a baby that is truly ready.
@MossclawHarryPotter Hi, I ONLY help when a baby is taking too long. In nearly 40 years, I've only helped about 5 babies hatch. Once they have started pecking the shell away, it's ok, though it's always best to let them do it themselves. Sometimes though, they get stuck, and die. I'd help any life, human or animal in distress, as was this baby.
@MossclawHarryPotter No harm done...I know what I'm doing :). If a baby is stuck in the egg and you want to make sure it lives, yes, prodding and pulling at the shell is essential.
@MossclawHarryPotter Yes, the nails were real, but I coated them to keep them strong. I have my nails short now. Why do people make such a big issue about the nails? They really weren't that long. Lots of women wear their nails long, and even wear fake ones. Just wondering why it's an issue? :) ?
No its ok i have long nails two (yes i am a girl). I was just wondering since some people cut theirs when they do something. Like my Aunt cut hers to play harp. Ok i dont know exactly what i was trying to say there... oh well.
@MossclawHarryPotter It's kind of funny how many people have commented on the long nails. So many people act as though I'm killing the baby, and I'm not. My goal is to educate people about the growth and development of birds, and that--even with long nails--it's ok to handle the babies. The acrylic actually makes the nails less sharp, better for handling them. Cleanliness is the key! :)
The baby has to come out of the egg on his own. The struggle during the break out will make the baby strong. Helping by breaking the shell will make it weak. People should seriously stop interfering with nature!
@classyladybecca nature is cruel at our eyes, but that is not a reason to interfere with it.
You are interfering with natural selection. Now that litle bird will give his defective genoma to all his descendancy making the entire especie a litle bit more weaker. That litle bird has to die, that is evolution and you are interfering whit it... and this is very bad for nature
@Chachitoxx How is it bad for nature??? All birthing of animals needs intervention here and there. Are you telling me that docs shouldn't help kids be born? I'm all about saving lives.
@classyladybecca its bad for nature not for individual organisms, we make geneticly weaker the entire man kind any time we make an intervention, medicine is a prety bad thing for human evolution, however medicine is really good for our society, makes all individuals competitive sometimes ignoring a bad genetical charge.
Humans have much more than our genetic charge to survive, but most of the animals only have their own bodies to survive and they need a good genetical charge for this.
@planesoverlames Well darling, as the description states, it's an ASSISTED hatch by a PROFESSIONAL. Baby would have died had I left him to do it all on its own. :*( But thankfully, he is alive and healthy!
@lolkaykayattack That's the membrane, a coating inside of the egg. As you can see here, the membrane was EXTREMELY dry, and stuck to the baby. The baby would have died in the egg if I didn't help.
@sswe903 Actually, you're not supposed to make any hole, unless the baby has broken through the shell, which it had. From then on, technically you can help it all you like. However, it is best to let the baby do as much work as possible. But this guy was in the egg WAY too long, membranes were excessively dry, and he would have died if I didn't break him out. Many birds die hatching.
@016632 Haha, well, the big nails are actually softer than my real nails. I assure you that I did not hurt that baby! I didn't know if it was a boy..."He" is a general term. However, this one did turn out to be a boy. Sometimes, you can tell by looking at the vent if when they hatch if they are boy or girl. The boy's vent is round, and females have a tiny hypen-looking vent.
@WowUrFcknHxC Yep, hatching on their own is very good for them. However, when they are not progressing for hours on end, as was the case here, they might need some assistance.
hello, i have 3 parakeets... im not sure which ones are male and female... in fact i dont even know if i have any males. i may have one but im not sure. how do you tell?
my next question is they are on their third time laying eggs... idk how long they have been in there and i dont know if they are fertalized. how do you tell?
and if you go to check and touch the eggs, will they hurt the eggs or ignore the eggs? i know some birds are like that.
Birds bred in captivity rarely abandon their babies if touched by humans. In fact, many birds in the wild will not abandon them either. Several times I've found an egg or baby that has fallen from a nest, and returned them to the nest, and the mother has cared for them!
Most birds have a very poor sense of smell, i'm not including birds of prey etc in this because they have a very good sense of smell. Therefore they can't smell human on the young and provided you leave them alone afterwards will not abandon the young. They may appear to but that is generally because they are waiting for you to leave before returning to their young.
I see blood..
