Even a 20 year old lotus is impressive. Look at a 1994 lotus esprit. Will corner almost as good as an elise and will go 170 mph. 4 cyl. with stock turbo and stock chargecooler. Look at "lotus fast and furious" on youtube
Elise pulls away in a straight line, that suprised me, all those horse and the stang was loosing ground, elise would be about 4 secs a lap quicker, 10 laps in and it would nearly be lapping the stang
@funkinfelix The Lotus ways a lot less and can get on the power a lot sooner than the mustang when it comes out of the corners. They definitely have the better Chassis as well. Combine that with a low weight and a motor that provides ample torque and you have a blast of car to drive.
my elise has a 0-60 time of 5.00 seconds but it isnt the same elise featured in the video :). truth is on a track and both driven by the same competent driver the elise would leave a mustang far behind even a modified one. Theres a reason why the elsie is both extrmeely light and low to the ground.
Good driving on the stang.. Cheers.. @Chicogotgreen.. Yes i noticed the Lotus breaking loose in the corners as well.. And yes the Stock tires Blow on the mustang.. I have an 09 Roushcharged GT... Im wondering if from a dig which one is faster... (I know i will get both the Mustang, and the lotus folks claiming fame.. but i mean real numbers, real run.. what gets to 100faster? Then from a 60-120 what is quicker?
@TheManInDboX In a straight line you wil have it but they have already compared the two on a curvy hill climb and the Lotus won by a hair. Obviously the mustang will take it off the line and in the straights but the Lotus can get on the brakes later, carry more speed through the corners, and get on the power faster than the Mustang which will bring them pretty close on a track. It should go to the Lotus though. Should be the operating word here.
@localfishinghole Actually, odd thing is because of the modifications done to the lotus, it was taking significant distance on the straights. It barely inched forward in the corners, I pretty much hung right there with it, but once it came to the straights I was toast.
nice to see a fast mustang not in a straight line but in the corners...i just wish they sold the same type of suspension that you tuned for your car, as they would in production...amazing achievement...
@shobin05 Yah, it is something they lacked for a long time. Even the options like the "sport hard" package (or whatever it was called) where pretty lacking. They have really upped their game with the 2011 GT though, the Track Pack suspension option puts the car right around the same level as my car with the work I have done to it.
@shobin05 That is my goal. That is why I am planning on keeping the mufflers stock even once I put on the long-tube headers and eliminate the cats. Currently the car is also running a wet injection nitrous system, with all the controls and gauges located so that not even passengers can see them even when I activate them. (And please, none of the typical anti-nitrous comments. Done correctly it is the safest form of forced induction, and I am running one of the safest set-ups you can make.)
@chicogotgreen anti nitrous?? COME ON...i love nitrous...why would anyone be against it anyway? i dont know much about stangs, but i hear Roush sell good brakes, ever thought of getting those? you did say it faded badly in the description..and whats your time on the quarter mile?
@shobin05 Most people just know the typical misinformation when it comes to nitrous. As for the brakes, I am actually waiting on delivery of a full set of slotted centric premium rotors (the company that manufactures stoptech rotors) and a set of Hawk HPS pads.
Haven't run the quarter yet (more of a twisties guy), but I am estimating mid to low 12s depending on traction. Thats about what I have seen others run with similar work done.
Just hit tail of the dragon in my '05. And I must say, suspension mods are the first thing on my list when I get home! I couldn't believe how poorly the car handled the twisties! Straight line speed is fun and all, but I never realized what I was lacking until I hit the dragon today. I think I'd rather spend the saved money for suspension than the charger! Nice ride/video! What tires were you running?
@bigchris0886 Yah, The stock suspension gives a ton of body roll, just is not at all responsive in the corners. Take a look at the setup I have in this vid, extremely good bang for your buck. I have a thread that goes into a ton of detail in one of the mustang forums, I can send you a link to it. PM me if your interested. As for the tires, I was running the stock PZero's at the time. After doing a ton of research, I upgraded to the Firehawk Wide Oval Indy 500s in 255/45. Incredible tires.
@chicogotgreen Yea, send me a link, would be really helpful. I've been looking at the tokicko shocks/struts on American Muscle, but I'm not sure if I would need adjustable or not. I mean, I live on flat roads in west tennessee and rarely make it to the hills. And the car is fairly new to me with two different sets of tires front and back. I'm ready to get the miles on these to get a full set of something nice.
Ford should bring back the independant rear suspension from the 03 04 SVT Cobra Mustangs, and lose a few hundred pounds with the use of aluminium. I sold my 03 SVT Cobra (IRS equipped) with 500 rwhp to buy a Lotus Exige S240. Both are amazing machines, but completely different animals, and I love them both. I don't care where a car is built, just what driving experience I get from it. US, Japan or Europe, all can make great cars.
lotus cost 90000 euros ... So i rather have mustang .. It cost less better sound more space and less dangeures of crash.. Lotus is just a paper for a crash.
Yes, I hear the new mustang actually handles quite well, particularly well for a solid axle car.. I guess it's kindof like the 911, after decades of work with the wrong design, it can be made to work!!
@bliglum And even the new mustangs, including the special options like the "Laguna Seca Track Pack", really only feature springs, shocks/struts, and sways that are different from every other 2005+ Mustang GT. There is a bit more bracing in the chassis and a few little aerodynamic things, but they are not all that different. You can make these car's handle incredible with the right parts combination.
No, I haven't done anything else yet. I am planning to add adjustable shocks and struts, rear LCA relocation brackets, caster camber plate, and a bumpsteer kit. I was considering rear LCAs, but from what I have read they mostly help with axle hop which is only really an issue in a straight line. I decided against a panhard bar, seeing as the axle alignment turned out to not be an issue. I am considering a fays2 watts link setup though. Wheels/tires are stock.
@chicogotgreen A Watts link would be nice. My only concern would be the longetivity of the spherical rod ends. I am not sure how long they last. From what I have heard and read, it appears the stock dampers and springs are the weak spots in the S197 suspension. I have not done any suspension mods yet. I was originally going to do the typical straight line mods but after watching your video and few others (Griggs, Strano, etc) I am going to set my GT up to turn corners. Thank you.
@ihopetospeed1 If you want to see a detailed review I posted of my setup, take a look at the link I messaged you. The GT500 and Steeda combo is a great setup overall, especially for the money. The car is a completely new beast, transformed from a straightline bruiser to a corner carving machine. I have never driven another car that so effortlessly takes corners that would make most cars it's size feel like a semi-truck.

These are two totally different cars. The lotus is so much lighter and smaller. The stang kept up.

Oddly, the mustang gained in the corners, and the Elise pulled in the straights. Would ave thought it woud be the other way around.
