  • He is the very definition of expressive emotion...what's the matter with your perception skills if you don't see any emotion here...?

  • @headingleyrocks I think he meant his actual facial expressions and whatnot, cuz he does look pretty indifferent most of the time when he sings, but thats kind of always been his schtick

  • i wonder whats going through that head 100% focus or something extraterrestrial

  • @Taylor13371337 drugs

  • 5 people are just mad they will never see tool up this close. . . like most of us watching this! I would kill to see tool that raw.

  • This is right before they blew up!!!!! They got signed on by zoo records in 1991. This is when keenan got his influence on writing new songs, basically when he was zoned out on all those hallucinogens. TOOL will always be my favorite band.

  • 2:16 danny just going nuts on the drums!

  • this bar/club is about 30 feet wide and 60 long, and unreal they played something this small. they never could have played here after undertow came out, they were too big. this place has 117 occupancy sign in it. Opiate was the only thing we had when they played here. Nirvana played here just before Nevermind came out. some awesome shows at this gem. it turned into a sushi joint, then back to a club again.

  • Did no one bother to notice that sober wasnt even released at this point is 1992 undertow dropped a year and some months later.

  • Did no one bother to notice that soer wasnt evn released at this point is 1992 undertow dropped a year and some months later.

  • Ouch!!! What a great video. It captures the experience of live Rock like no other.

  • I love the last 2 weak ass fist thrusts that Maynard does at the end, the ones before were sooo intense and he just half-assed the last 2 and it looked hilarious.

  • only a worthless liar imbicle that complicates things could like such a beatuifully crafted interdimensional peice of supersonic mind travel

  • I believe this is the best i've ever heard maynard sing this song. simply incredible

  • Maynards dancing deserves all the thumbs up in the world.

I love the minimal clapping at the end. If they were to play this song today the crowd would be going absolutly mental.

  • @ewblackpeople Maynards dancing should be put in some kind of museum along with Ian Curtis' epileptic dances, and Peter Townsend destroying shit.

  • @ewblackpeople Nobody knew of Tool back then, the audience was about 15 people.

  • No one left a thumbs down for this video.. good.. less people i have to kill..

  • I cant believe that's real ##

  • haha i wish i was alive to c that

  • On no bullshit... I had this VHS bootlegged back in 97. Needless to say, I don't listen to much Tool these days. Burnt out.

  • @lalaine66611

an excerpt frum one of tha band members bios:

"One way to perceive the experiences that have led to Adam's state in Tool is as the exploration of contrasting modalities of perception. As the hemispheres of the brain struggle for dominance there is a constant shifting of polarity between the right and left lobes that exists as music vs. number, image vs. word, being vs. doing, and holistic integration vs. linear abstraction."

read those sentencez an tel me again theyr RETARDED

  • @Muzikrazy213 that excerpt is awsome. Where can I find these bios?

  • @WickedWitchKING toolband.com, ckliick "toolband website" at da top on da menu bar, ckliick "identity". under dat r three liinez leadiing to three places/siites. ckliick "band bios" and ther ya go.

every time i see a live show, maynard looks looks loaded on drugs.

  • @dzaniced thats the beauty of amazing music.

  • Maynard mixes the lyrics a bit during the first chorus...

  • Also, did anyone else think Adam was naked at first?

  • Fuck, Maynard looks intense.

  • @redcthulhu I love his eyes. I'm having an emotional orgasm right now.

  • THSI is how this song is meant to be played. Pure and raw.

  • Wow...amazing even back then

  • maynard is just trying to look tough cuz some nerd is standing 3 feet away with an enomrous video camera pointing right at him.

Then why are you watching this piece of epic greatness?

  • @lalaine66611 Fuck Blink. Nothing but wanna-be punks.

  • @lalaine66611 FUCK YOU FAG!!

  • @lalaine66611 you fucking imbecile!

  • He's so high. But you can't blame him, all the greats were high during their great performances. (Except for Clapton)

  • @protossalliance ...and maynard james keenan

  • @quintfl Listen to his interviews. He himself says that if you're against weed and drugs, go home and burn every album you own because all those guys were stoned out their minds.

  • @protossalliance that's them

  • @protossalliance Actually Maynard doesnt say that. It is a quote from Bill Hicks - Sane Man. Maynard is most likely not high in this video. Tool is not worthy of the facade that they are always on drugs. Its just not right. They are above that

  • @protossalliance he isnt stoned, just listen to the vocals, if you were stoned you couldnt hit the notes hes hitting.

  • i wish i was there!!

  • Have you seen PUSCIFER? Maynard's side project?

  • I love that voice :D

  • holy hell, his voice, ohh and the sweat! Thanks for posting, great video!

  • he is not an orc!!!!!!!

He is the feeling in your soul

  • it's fantastic, the hair stands up on my back,a heavy drinker who understands what it is about the life of....

    thank you for upload

  • he looks like an orc. this song is epic as.

  • hahahhahah he does look like an orc ;D

  • this is the best way to watch them............from the heart nt the money n drugs

  • Who cares if its a dump. I prefer atmosphere and memories over a sterile modern bland ipod sheen club.

  • A LOT of great bands played there back in the day, pearl jam, oasis, nirvana, tool, tommy conwell and lots more

  • The bar is a well known rock club in Philly, but it IS small with mostly obstructed views of the stage. I was living just up the road when this happened. Wish I had gone...

  • Imagine being in this dump when he opens up on lead guitar? How are you not thinking "What the hell are these guys doing here?"

  • @RevJim1313 - Actually, this club is legendary. I was one of the lucky ones who got to see this show, and had played there a lot myself with various bands in the mid to late 80's.

The place was naturally intoxicating. It was an awkward stage, though. Playing there was like sticking your head in a jet engine for 2 hours, then getting off stage thinking, "what the fuck just happened?".

Definitely wasn't my favorite place to play, but it was an honor to all those who did.

    Was a great show!

  • A dump? Well, there's a lot more history to this place than you'll ever know. You had to be there to appreciate it.

As far as the big bands that played there like Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Tool, etc, they could have played the Chestnut, 23 East, or Ardmore Cabarets which were bigger, but they chose to play Dobbs. That really pissed off Cornerstone management, the owners of those clubs, because they wanted those bands.

But Dobbs was the place to play.

Sorry for such a long response.

  • One last thing, then I'll shut the fuck up. Audiences at Dobbs didn't make a big deal of bands that came in from the outside. They were very loyal to the local acts. A local band could play on a Thursday night and pack 'em in. Than a band like Tool could play a Fri or Sat night and there might be 30 people there.

God, I miss those days! The music scene was so diverse.

    Cheers.

  • was this when the band wasn't famous yet?

  • just heard this on a local radio station online in philly. prompted me to watch this! AGAIN!!

Damn this is fucking great stuff!!!

  • if only i was older..i was only 10 when they recorded this, only about 2 years before i heard tool for the first time and never looked back. they sound amazing and for it being such a small club i don't think any band can top this.

  • Wow, that was a great show...I wonder if those guys ever did anything with their talent???

  • @Spindles15

unfortunately, nobody has heard of them since

  • @klined Yea, apparently the lead singer is making wine now? So i dont know what happened 2 these guys :) LOL!!

  • i'm not sure if that's a joke or not. bad with sarcasm, so bear with me. their still making music, latest album released '06. called 10,000 days. they wrapped up a tour recently too. new album should be out in 2011.
